What are some of your tips and tricks for smoother flying?
@shadowofchaos89323 жыл бұрын
I see lots of suggestions for a pinch your controls for more stable flight. I myself like to fly with my thumbs. I grew up on Nintendo and playstation controllers, thumbs are more comfortable for me. Fly the way you feel more confident.
@medrone70973 жыл бұрын
@@shadowofchaos8932 There are great pilots who do both. After flying for over a year, I felt like I stopped progressing, so I transitioned from thumbs to pinch. It was a challenge for about a month but it paid off for me.

Ever since I started flying my 2S, 100g ET100 superwhoop in my little apartment, I was trying to get it to fly like a cinewhoop - even before I discovered there was such a thing. I started with BF 3.2 or so, and the thing flew like a toy: a Chucky doll. Once I got accustomed to BetaFlight, one of the first things I did was to tame its throttle. It was primarily an act of self-preservation, initially. I thought that since the craft was limited in the vertical, all its extra power was unnecessary; all that's needed is enough to gently ascend. The main thing is to maintain a constant altitude, with any vertical movement being smooth and gentle. Over the years I have massaged the throttle curve to where the stick midpoint is at the craft's hover point, and there is maximum expo applied in BF and on the TX. When scaled appropriately, you get a craft that is very easy to fly. Here's what I did in BF 4.3.1: Fly in Angle Mode, with a low Strength setting [I use 20], and low tip angles [currently I'm running 12, 15, and 18 degrees]. Use very, very low RPY rates and lots of expo. Set Anti-gravity to Off. Set Thrust Linearization to Off. Set Throttle Boost to 0. Set the Throttle Limit to Off, Throttle MID to 0.50, Throttle Expo to 0. Do a hover to find the point on the linear curve, using the throttle readout on the OSD. Once that's established [in my case it was ~40%, so we'll plug that in], set the Throttle Limit in BF to SCALE, the Throttle Limit % to 50%, the Throttle MID to 0.8, and the Throttle Expo to 1.00. A few test flights allowed me to zone in the Throttle MID [I ended with 0.87 at 50% Throttle Limit] so that the 'sweet spot' in the middle of the throttle curve matched where I wanted my thumb to be, with the widest latitude. I set the throttle expo on my TX to 100% as well. I set my TPA to 0.01 and the TPA Breakpoint to 1001. With the throttle set so low, it makes very little difference, at least to the ET100. These settings make it a very tame platform that handles collisions with aplomb, and makes riding along walls something readily do-able. The numbers will vary, depending on the craft, and some will need fine-tuning. The idea is to find the full-power hover point and set that to mid-point, flatten the new mid-point out as much as possible, and scale the power above mid-point to where only the minimum needed for smooth ascent is used. This results in a smooth-flying platform that holds its altitude really well, and it gains altitude gently but with enough reserve to respond when needed; since the majority of the curve is below stick center, it descends stably and lands with precision. It also eliminates flyaways and other unwanted reactions when rubbing or bumping things. My ET100 still has the video feed of a potato, but it flies like a dream with that throttle profile. Give it a go. It should only take a few packs to dial in the sweet spot. It makes handling the little guys much easier - at least for an Angle Mode duffer like me. It might for you, too. Angle Mode Matters! Happy Flying!

I don't even like cinewhoops and I liked this video! You do really good educational video's man. Also, you never have to explain how you review stuff. We all hail the King of Review- Mr. Albert Kim!
@GeezerGramps3 жыл бұрын
I for one appreciate the fact that your reviews are done on a stock factory tune. As you said this gives a better idea of how it will fly stock. This is especially helpful to new people getting into the hobby. Myself I’m not a good tuner and have watched video reviews, bought the whoop to find out it didn’t fly anything like the review. I tend to not trust those peoples reviews. There are a couple of KZbin channels I’ll check when looking for a new whoop & this is one of them. Thanks Albert!
@AlbertKimTV3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear that complaint all the time. When I dug into it some more, I figured out these other reviewers were taking stuff that was crap out of box, fixing it up and making it look amazing. There was a real famous incident a couple years ago where one reviewer used flight footage from a totally different drone all together. There's a lot of dirty stuff that goes on behind the scenes... it's scary out there...

Another "tip" I wanna throw in is, use 5-blade propellers. I'm still testing the results, but I get smoother, more stable flight using a 5-blade than a 3-blade. Just something to consider as well. Great settings there. Learned something!

Which 5 blades? I tried some 3" ones that made the quad shaky compared to the gemfam and HQ 3 blades I had been using.

Thanks for the great video, is this a small whoop specific or do you think most of this will apply to say a GepRC cinerun, not to be too specific haha

The ideas are generally applicable to any drone really. The specific numbers you see are only for the tiny drone I showed in the video. If you just try to copy the numbers to another drone, it probably won't fly well. Don't focus on the numbers but the concepts.

I have tried to tweak the settings in Betaflight but without success. The self-leveling causing too much jerkiness in the footage for it to be used for anything but casual home video. Professionals will reject the footage out right.

Planning on getting a SMO 4k, but how does it compares to a naked gopro from your perspective? I've seen you've mostly use the gopro recently other than the smo 4k review video itself
@AlbertKimTV3 жыл бұрын
The naked goPro has better quality but the SMO 4K is easier for inexperienced pilots. Many inexperienced pilots who have no clue what they are doing end up destroying the goPros. I think one guy I helped wrecked 10 goPros and then gave up and bought a SMO 4K.
@dfouraksa.k69113 жыл бұрын
@@AlbertKimTV right, im quite very new to the hobby and taking apart a gopro and not to mention some betafpv bec power spike problems I've heard wouldn't justify the risk for a slightly better video quality in my opinion Hopefully flowstate can be updated close to reelsteady as smo 4k also have metadata info

Thank you for the help. So will these expo changes affect all flight modes " Horizon " or only Acro, Also I past the cinematic tune command lines from beta flight 4.2 into cli, but I could not figure out how to install it . Do I have to flash the board ? Kinda got scared on that step didn't want to mess it up. I have the Flywoo Venom hex ( 6 motor ) , should these changes work with a Hex or am I in unknown territory.

I'd consult the Betaflight wiki regarding rate changes in Horizon mode. I don't ever fly that mode (nor do I really recommend it) so I'm not sure how that whole mode works. github.com/betaflight/betaflight/wiki
