Adagio in G-minore (1958.) Congratulazioni agli artisti! Glazbena interpretacija dostojna monumentalnosti neprolaznog djela, koja govori o Stvoritelju. Čestitke umjetnicima!

this is Wonderful solemn and sombre certainly deserves the octaves and this piano created piano amplification from an organ reduction. There are other arrangements that use thirds in right hand sections or bounce the bass up down up ie opposite from down up down... in places however after all that im not sure what I was even asking for originally. Thanks for this inspirational performance and being true to the music is everything. Hope the elephants get to hear this one when they got the blues ;) many thanks and best wishes from Scotland
@PaulBartonPiano7 жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention elephants, as I was recording I started to think an elephant called Romsai might like to listen to parts of this. If I get the chance, I will play it to him. One of the main challenges of playing piano reductions of slow orchestral works is it's not possible to crescendo into a note expressively as stringed instruments and singers can do or hold on to a note's duration powerfully as a string section can do with bowing, which gives the work so much of its character. So as you associate the orchestral sound colour so much with the music hearing it played on piano can come across as a bit of a shock. I somehow feel more comfortable about listening to piano reductions of orchestral works than listening to orchestral version of piano works. Do you know what I mean? So -- one solution would be to play it faster on the piano than you would usually hear with a string ensemble with organ and that was my plan, but even though the decay was less noticeable at a faster tempo, it lost more than it gained. To approximate the sustained organ bass while the violin solos alI I could think of was to hold down a pivot note silently to support the hand and make a shallow vibrato with the hammers as close to the strings as possible rather than a full tremolo. Sometimes pianists will repeat a long sustained bass chord half way along its duration as a solution, which often turns up at the end of Bach's Prelude and Fugues for example, and I tried this but it didn't work. When the theme is heard in ff for the last time in the orchestral version the melody comes through much more than it does in the piano sheet music, especially if you think of the now well known orchestral recordings with a full modern orchestra (I think Karajan used the Savini arrangement) rather than the string ensemble and organ it was originally made for by Giazotto. So adding notes with the aim to get as close as possible to the fullness of a large string section, seemed worth a try. It's strange Albinoni's most famous work, one of the best known pieces in classical music is claimed to be entirely the work of the 20th century musicologist and critic Remo Giazotto. It's a curious story. ".... He stated that he had arranged the work but not composed it. He subsequently revised this story, claiming it as his own original composition. The fragment has never appeared in public; Giazotto stated that it contained only the bass line, and the work was copyrighted by Giazotto". "There is a continuing scholarly debate about whether the alleged fragment was real, or a musical hoax perpetrated by Giazotto, but there is no doubt about Giazotto's authorship of the remainder of the work". I was tempted to put the title as "Adagio in G minor" by Remo Giazotto but didn't as it's not very search-friendly.
