Loved all of this week's picks. I already own Law of 3. It's in rotation in my car with Nataraja, Morgan Husband Feraud & Jing Chi (Vinnie Colaiuta, Robben Ford & Jimmy Haslip - the Supremo album), so my headis definitely in jazz fusion right now. Wanted to know more about Gilmour's album. Liked your takes and now have to listen to some tracks, but not sure yet that I will buy it. I never heard of Amy Rigby until now, but she is also definitely worth a listen. ... had to add for my fellow Buffalonians, Go Bills!

Why don't you just invite Roy Marchbank himself on to explain SWAM and the orchestration and guitar on the Law of Three album? The guitar IS all those instruments!

Roy is definitely in the driver's seat on a lot of the instrumental sound, playing the guitar while simultaneously triggering all the SWAM programming and edging the dynamics with a MIDI breath controller. At the same time, Mark Hartley is working his own magic with some synthetic effects on the bass and Andy Edwards is occasionally playing on an electronic percussion device that's part of his kit for this project but I don't know anything about. The band has a couple of short KZbin videos up demo'ing all this.

@@Wil-cp8zp and there's much more on Roy's channel also regarding the writing of the album, use of SWAM etc but how many go looking for this information? Very interesting band indeed and curious as to what's next.

I am going to make an attempt to see if that crew would come on explain the creative process and all the additional instrumental creativity

That would be great! The important thing here, though, is that, while the technology and production process make this a fascinating album, especially to musicians and geeks (I'm a former musician & perpetual geek), the music is just kick*ss. Each song could stand alone. The musicianship is outstanding. Even though there are synthesized sounds, each player's personality still comes through - the music is performed, not programmed. Clearly the best pick of the week.
