I hope they get back soon. This can happen with rags you use for oil staining as well. Definitely don’t leave them in a pile.

Never leave soaked rags together in a pile they do spontaneously combust ! As a painter I should know. I've seen it happen before! 🤔

Sounds like what happened to where I lived, had a flash fire and the entire building has to be gutted(and rebuilt, is a historical landmark), only fire damage was to one apartment, the rest was smoke damage.
