A big "Thank you!" to Mark and Simon. You have helped me to improve my solving so much that I can solve some of the puzzles featured on the channel (well, maybe not the Phistomephel type). Under 30 minutes for this one, and this is entirely because of you and your great channel.

I spent ages trying to solve this and eventually had a look at the start of Mark's solve. Then he talked about the 21cage. OMG!!!!! I had looked straight through it never noticing either the cage of the number 21.
@hilcovanbreeschoten7204 күн бұрын
45:21 I was wondering why I was struggling so much. Then I watched Mark's solve. I quickly realised I completely forgot about or didn't register the 21 cage in the center. But apparently it still has a unique solution without it.
@nidoking0424 күн бұрын
I had the same problem. I think most of the little killer clues are not required for uniqueness either, since I didn't use either of the ones covering the right half of the grid other than as checks at the end.

Another very nice debut on the channel! I was just a bit too tight on time to try it myself before watching your video, Mark, but I will do so soon. It's just the kind of thing that I am sure I would enjoy solving. As always, thanks for the videos every single day. Very much appreciated (and very enjoyable)!

A bit slow in the beginning, but finally realized the little killers were a bit more restricted than I first thought, and was able to finish in 18:58 (conflict checker off). Many thanks to Irius for a very cool puzzle!

Mark makes an error at 14.33. The 7 could still go in R6C1. The correct path is to see that only 4 or 6 could go in R4C3 leaving a one-two pair in R6C2 and 3. Now 1or 2 can only go in R9C2 forming a pair with R6 C2 forcing R2C2 to be 4.
@TheArbieo6 күн бұрын
I had similar, but more complicated. The key question is: where does 6 go in column 2. There is a (1,2,4,5,6) quintuple in the column, with one of them being in the 16 cage. This places the 9 in box 7 and removes 6 from the arrow. 6 also can't go in the box. The only remaining spot is R4C2!
@RichSmith776 күн бұрын
I think Mark's path is still a valid one, he just messed up the explanation by forgetting where the 9 had to go to force the 6 to appear in the 21 cage. He meant to say, if r5c3 is 9 then the 21 cage is 6+7+8, making r4c2 a 4, and r4c3 at most a 1 or 2. This makes the maximum on the 34 diagonal, in box 4, 8+3+2=13, which is nowhere near enough. So he can conclude r4c3 is not a 9, and must be 8. This is what he does conclude, he just messed up the explanation by thinking r6c1 was a 9 half way through.
@peaches760a5 күн бұрын
I found a much longer but logically simpler path... due to the 34 diagonal r4c3 can't be 1 or 2, so it has to be 4 or 6, and 1 and 2 must be a pair in r6c2and r6c3. this leave r5c1 as a 5. The 21 cage must be completed with a 79 pair which can be resolved later. r5c3 is now 8, r5c7 is 9. In row 6, 4 and 5 must go in box 6 (c7 and c9). Looking at the 12 cage in box 6, a 5 would require 7 in the other 2 cells which doesn't work because of the 16 pair. So r6c9 is 4 and r6c7 is 5. Using the cage, the candidates for r4c9 are 2 and 7. However, 7 is too big for the 24 diagonal so it's 2 with a 6 in the cage and a 1 on the arrow. You can finish off the diagonal with a 9 in r7c6, and because of the 16 cage, we know that cage needs a 78 pair, leaving a 6 in r9c6. the 78 pair place the 7 in box 3 which helps resolve box 5 including placing the 9 in r4c4 resolving the 79 pair in box 4.

I struggled a bit, but still managed to finish in just over 38 mins, which is a very good time for me. All clues came in handy at one point or another. Good puzzle and I'd dare say very approachable for anyone that wants to try the different rulesets used in it.

I don't understand what Mark is doing @13:10. He seems to forget where the 9 went in his case testing, and he says 9+7+6=21. He catches this mistake a moment later but goes with the 9 placement based on his earlier incorrect calculations anyway.
@RichSmith776 күн бұрын
(Sorry. I originally "corrected" your timestamp when it didn't need correcting. Not sure what I was looking at.) Yea, he confused himself as much as the rest of us there. He definitely hadn't proven what he thought he had proven. Even with his error, he "demonstrated" that it broke with 9 in r6c1, but then somehow concluded that meant r6c1 was a 9. Eh? Edit: I guess his argument holds for disproving 9 in r5c3. If that was 9, then the 21 cage would be 6+7+8, r4c3 would still be limited to a low digit (1 or 2), the diagonal in box 4 would be at most 8+3+2=13, and the diagonal in box 2 cannot make up the difference to reach 34. He just explained it wrong by forgetting where 9 went in the disprovable line.
@RichSmith776 күн бұрын
@2:37 "You can tell, from the sum of 34 in six digits, that repeats must be allowed" Er? 34 can easily be made without repeats. E.g. 2+3+5+7+8+9

I didn't spot that the central cage added up to 21. I spent a good half an hour using the most convoluted logic to solve this puzzle, then decided to watch how Mark did it so quickly. And almost immediately noticed, for the first time, that 21 cage 😂😂😂

1:05:41@#2521. It started out well, then bogged down for a long while. I just could not figure out where or how to reduce the possibilities. (Have I mentioned that I suck at arithmetic?) Eventually, though, I did discover two impossible candidates on the 34 diagonal that let me complete it. Not a bad one, overall, it just doesn't jive with my strengths.

Good perseverance though, congrats for finding a route through. Lots of people saying this one is easy but I thought the little killer logic was convoluted. I got lucky and the first question I asked was one that broke so I finished in 26:59 but it could easily have taken me much longer.
