im from north jersey and have known it as pork roll for 30+ yrs. taylor is a brand name and i have always gotten hatfield brand so calling it taylor ham doesnt make sense for me to use, even if it is the name of the man who invented it

Lots of things are named after the OG brand that made it famous; Cotton Swabs are called Q-Tips, tissues are called Kleenex, adhesive bandages are called Band-Aids, etc. Taylor Ham will always be pork roll, but not all pork rolls are Taylor Ham. Most of the generic brands pale in comparison imo :)

Can someone please tell me the difference between pork roll/Taylor Ham and bologna? The same way you cooked this is the way I like my childhood comfort food; fried bologna sandwiches. It is essentially just spam.. just formed like bologna, from what I can see

That's not usually how it goes tbh lol. Usually South Jerseyeans fight to call in pork roll. I grew up in Morris County and it was always Taylor Ham .. even on school menus.

Im from North Jersey but have been in Northern VA for almost 20 years. We have this exact product in Giant! Ill also get some fresh everything bagels from the bakery section (closer to NJ/NY styled bagels than pre-packaged on the shelf), and make my own taylor ham, egg, and cheese on an everything at home🤌 It’s obvi not the same, but it’s close!

Us northerners stood up the the 1906 tyranny of the brand new FDA and stuck with Taylor Ham. The southern Jerseyians folded like their football team did on Sunday and changed to pork roll. Goggle "taylor ham original packaging" and you'll see why everyone called it Taylor Ham.

It's not called ham because by food standards it doesn't qualify to be a ham. So Taylor wasn't allowed to call it ham. The product was called pork roll. So it's not and never was Taylor "ham". It's Taylor's brand of pork roll product.

@@FiiireLight Most common is Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese on a roll with SPK (salt, pepper, ketchup). But you can put it on a bagel or english muffin. Can call it pork roll too, it's the same thing but referred to different depending on where you grew up.
