ALDI have a huge customer base so this is more for the casual than serious buyer and i dare say will sell very well given the amount of foot traffic with the low cost. Pretty much an impulse purchase to throw in the trolly/basket with the rest of your shop. And lets own up, who doesn't love the ALDI/LIDL middle isles, even if you won't admit it ;)

Great video Jon, and you're spot on at the end. It isn't actually *that* cheap. Say you get 12 wheels out of a can. That's 20p a wheel, so 80p per wash for your car. I use EZ Car Care Viper, which is £28 for 5 litres, but I dilute it down to 10:1, and I probably use 30-50ml per wheel. That's only costing me 10-11p per wash for the whole car.

Hi John - Simoniz is probably the oldest car cleaning manufacturer beginning in the very early 1900s. You are probably too young to know that. Many vintage car owners would not use anything other than Simoniz hard wax which was a brilliant product. I used to wax my 1961 Wolseley 1500 with it and a good coat would last easily for six to nine months. It was hard work but a beautiful shine. Its a shame they have started to make cheaper products of late but I guess there is a market for them. You should review some of their more up to date protective finishes like Glasscoat.

Bit of a long comment but if you're savvy and/or cheap like me... Eurocarparts does a 2.5L bleeding wheel cleaner which can be had for about £3.50 with the promo codes that they always have. It's called TRIPLE QX Alloy Wheel Cleaner - 2.5ltr I would love to see it get the Forensic Detailing treatment and review, it's excellent value and it reacts with iron to turn purple, I don't know of any other product at this price point that can do that. It can probably be had for even less if you get it through their sister website Carparts4less. Secondly, another bargain I've found recently, a good winter screenwash, as in one that resists freezing and is concentrated can be had from B&M Homestore, £2.99 for 5L and its good down to -15°C. Its branded as RAC. I use it at full concentration in the winter and 50/50 in the summer. Thought I'd share. As for the Simoniz, it's cheap and not aimed at detailers, I don't like aerosols because they tend to be dry and worse for the environment, you can't reuse the can like you can with spray bottles, so it's a no from me too, but I'm glad you made this video.

I think you’re absolutely right in regards to a single product never beating a 5l concentrate in terms of value and makes sense for a semi/professional detailer. But I think for your average once a fortnight guy, most of the fun is in trying new products. But I’m sure you know that anyway lol. No one gonna be watching detailing vids when they got 5 litres of a concentrate they’re happy with and have no plans on changing

Simonize was the go to car wax away back in the day , it was a proper tin of wax and when it said do one section at a time you were talking about a foot at a time , if you did any bigger it would dry and you got a free work out for your arms to polish it up . After your workout it did shine and did bead water big style . I prefer the new polishes though lol

Jon, we had this “surfactant” brought up when you made one of those home brews maybe two years ago? You never replied to my comment then. In short, a Surfactants a soap. It’s actually an additive that provides a fluid to flow and reduces friction. If you wanted to pump wter through a line and added a surfactant it would reduce friction, pump pressure. This reduces pressure and pump efficiency. It helps us work with regular fluids easier.

Hi Jon, what's your thoughts on the best bug and tar removers. I use Bilt Hamber auto foam as a pre wash and love it, but it doesn't seem effective at loosening bugs as much as Auto Glym Polar Blast but dont want to go back to polar blast. Any advice on the bug removal.
@ForensicDetailing5 жыл бұрын
cant say Ive noticed this.. A while back I had some bad ass bug splatter and did some testing, with like lots of different products. I found surfex HD was the most effective. A lot of times the active ingredient in a bug splatter product is some limonene.. If I have bad bug splatter I pre wash and pressure wash off the bulk of it. Then I would take surfex HD at 10:1, and pair it up with the detail factory brush. The brush is awesome for bug splatter because it sweeps the guts gently rather than pins them like a mitt or mesh cloth. Some of the things people are recomending for splatter are lethal. use the detail factory brush slowly and gently. If that doesnt work. Get a bottle of autoglym bug remover which is like a foaming citrus spray. Its good as well but Im just not sure you need a dedicated bug product in the UK. surfex will do it.

I dont think it's intended for the savvy detailer, its more that the average Joe who washes his own car knows that cleaning wheels is a pain, and if said person happened across a product to make that job easier then they would, at a low enough price point, impulse buy it. And so tesco, aldi, asda or whoever have asked simonez for a cheap product to hit that market. Right now I dont think simonez really care about devaluing themselves when they can make decent money by bulk selling to supermarket customers.

I'm too poor to be a brand snob, but anyway, we have ALDI here in the U.S. although most of my auto supplies I buy at Ollie's. They're selling a highly rated Ceramic Spray Wax for $7.99, roughly the same as TW Seal N Shine and made by Simoniz, an old brand that seems to be rebuilding. They must have followed Turtle Wax on this one.

I would suspect 99.9% of people buying that brand are using sponges, their not detailers or enthusiasts. They sell their product on price and simplicity in Halfords for people not going for a considered purchase. If you offer in aldi you may pick up some new customers who buy more of your brand when your in Halfords. Short sharp promos don’t really damage a brand it’s More a taster for a new audience to get brand awareness. Done a lot with Aldi over the years and most brands will give it a go. They give huge orders, one drop, no returns. Some do for production issues I.e want to keep the factory busy so 50k pcs pays the bills and a bit more. Some do for a quick cash injection or to balance stock.

Aldi had some waterless wash n wax a few weeks ago at 1.99 for 750ml bottle I think, I bought a box of the fuckers, I don't use it as a waterless wash but use it as like a quick detailer/spray wax after washing and drying and it's awesome stuff lol

I don't believe simoniz are devaluing their brand as such. They are around a very long time and at one stage would of had little to no competition, just carplan, turtlewax, autoglym and that's about it. I got into my first car 10 years ago and like most people never even heard of the word detailing, if the car was washed with fairy liquid and the dash sprayed with a scented silicone spray it looked top notch in my opinion. Simoniz would have been the first brand myself and many others put our hands to when cleaning the car. Now the market has shifted hugely and there is endless amounts of brands, products and more readily available information on car care thanks to the internet. As far as the guys who care about their cars are concerned, if your not using x y and z products, your doing it wrong. Due to the huge change in the market and detailing becoming ever more popular, simoniz probably realise their turnover is dropping more and more each year due to not selling popular products, hence the reason for getting themselves in the door of aldi. They should sell the stuff by the bucket load in there because there is still many many people out there who are happy just to get the dirt off the car regardless of what technique or product is used. If it looks good to them, then that's all that matters. Simoniz' turnover will increase and everyone is a winner. Regarding price in aldi, simoniz do not have a say. Suppliers put forward their price to aldi and then aldi determines the retail price, if the supplier doesn't like it they can sell their stuff else where.
