I used this video back when I took Ochem and again to review for the DAT. Thank you for making it so easy to understand!

Are you a teacher? Because you really should be. As a biochem major thats on his 2nd attempt in the OChem series I really thank you. My teacher goes a mile a minute and throws jargon out like nobodies business. Its refreshing to see someone take the time and make these videos :) Thank you

At approximately 1:55, for the tautomerism mechanism it appears that the alpha proton on the left disappears on the right. Would it be right to say that the tautomerism process does not involve protonation, hence the oxygen should not be protonated to begin with and therefore the alpha proton moves to the oxygen and does not disappear?

i didn't go into detail on the tautomerism mechanism b/c i have a separate video on keto/enol tautomerization. have you seen that vid? yes, protonation will occur b/c the reaction is being done in acid. the proton on the alpha carbon seems to "disappear" because it's being abstracted by the nucleophile in order to form the enol. i skip showing these steps b/c the focus of my video is on the aldol reaction, not the formation of the enol. :)

Janci Despain Yes, that becomes very obvious now that it has been pointed out... haha. Thank you for clearing that up. Cheers for the videos too, you are the go to for a quick brush up on organic mechanisms
