Thanks for posting that , Peter . BTW , was this show only 27 mins or so long ? Was there another show before or after ? Just curious . Well , I was thinking about them touring , that this was all the way down in Sydney and she was living in Scotland at the time ? And maybe played 3-5 shows while there ? All these questions …. I’m up in the Pacific Northwest , a few hours from Seattle where they’ll be in February(?) I think and it’ll fascinating to see how she will have transformed . Or maybe not . Will be a smashing show whatever they’ve been up to . Thanks again !

@@lisacolbert5987 Hi Lisa. No, this was not the entire show. You can find the full setlist here: www.setlist.fm/setlist/aldous-harding/2020/enmore-theatre-sydney-australia-3b998c38.html But for me, the concert was far too short. I could have listened to her and the band all night. It was a national tour of both Australia and New Zealand. The support act was Hand Habits who was also very good. There are a couple of songs from them on my KZbin channel. I'm jealous of your chance to see her in February. It'll be a great show for sure. Thanks for commenting.

The mystery of Aldous Harding was unlocked for me when I realized she's not singing a song, she's IN the music. I think she sees the lyrics and feels the emotion of the movie in her mind. It's extraordinarily honest, with a kind of courage that comes from true vulnerability.

Aldous Harding could be one of the rare creative human creatures of our time; blessed threefold. 1 - A marvelous voice. 2 - A connection with the creative spirit that lives in us all, but that most have allowed to be silenced. 3 - The Will and Tenacity to speak and to sing from that spirit, no matter what the consequences. Having had the pleasure of attending three of her live performances in Manchester UK, I wish her God speed and all the Protection of the Angels, on her Path.

An interviewer asked her if it was a problem "keeping it real" Aldous: "there's nothing real about it" Yeah its performance art. There are bands that make pure music with no performance and there are charismatic performers who perform. The two art forms are diverging and separating. Part of her thing is artifice which you can see she's slowly developed playing live, part of it is she's an attractive woman because she's just herself. We're all beautiful... its our cultures that sometimes tell us we're not.

Back in my performing days, I had to enter a sort of trance state, the result is similar to what you see with Aldous and a lot of artists of that ilk. It's not always entirely positive. It's similar to drug use in that it can take you somewhere interesting or dangerously out of control. If you're talking about music, the music will set the stage for the "ritual", so make sure that what you're doing will take you on a journey to a place you actually want to reach.

This woman helped me through a long night. Thank you Aldous! Your're a sister to me and you don't even know who I am haha! I appreciate your art very very much. Your Art being your pure humanity that you let shine through. We are often put into positions where we can not be loud, where we have to do things that put life before our own desires and expression, where love is shown in forms of service rather than in potency. These are things that are necessary at times. That is why we have poets, musicians and artists to let out that pent up higher consciousness that comes with humanity. The parts we are so often forced to keep kept shut in to not distract ourselves from our daily tasks. They are also important, because they beg us to ask what it is we count as survival and just how much in the day is necessary for us to keep a routine in....what direction are we going in as a society. The real questions only poets and artists can create. You are beautiful. You are Art

@@Peter_LiveMusic I agree with everything you say, except I do not believe we are in their debt. It is a harmonious relationship. They get to live the way they live and be unique and inspiring. The rest of us give them love and admiration for their work because they help us stay in a "we" mindset. They are healers and grounders and they know that the rest of the world deserves peace. But they are created usually from worlds that did not have any peace, that is why they strive so hard to create it. We provide that love and peace for them in return for their art. That is our relationship to them. There is no debt. Any provider would not want you to think that way. Just appreciate the light they want to give and that is all you need to do!

If this lady isn't on the spectrum I'll eat my hat. She reminds me a bit of another musical genius David Byrne who now talks about his ASD openly.

While her new songs are amazing and she's such a talent, how she acts on stage and interviews are a world apart to what she was like back in the day. Watch interviews/performances from 2015 and she was bubbly, talkative and interested in being at the interview/performance, now, however, she's just disinterested. Thanks heaps for posting this. I wanted to go but couldn't :)

Interesting to hear about the change. I'll have a look back. I didn't get the impression that she was 'disinterested' at the concert. She was more like an Olympic high diver forcing total concentration before she plunged into the next song. She seemed to be psyching herself up. I'm sure lots of people read lots of different things into it. Anyway, the songs were beautifully performed. Try to catch her next time. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thanks for commenting Nathan.

I feel like she's plunged more and more into the character that she has mentioned she inhabits. It's really art, methinks, all of it. And in interviews I think she really tries to choose words carefully. In concert I was about 4 feet away and felt her love and intensity of presence so strong it was as the caption on this video says, almost unbearably intimate. My boyfriend and I felt the reverberations for days. I think she's very giving. ❤

Very glad you enjoyed it. The entire production was beautifully done. I only wish I'd been able to capture more of her band. But while I could see them OK, I didn't want to hold my camera up to my face level for fear of disturbing those around me. Thanks for commenting.

They were indeed. My biggest regret with this video is that I was unable to capture any footage of her band because I was holding my camera down low. But they were all truly fine musicians.

20:25 Nick Drake was known for long, silent tuning breaks between songs, with no audience interaction, so she's in good company there. By-the-way, a solution is to hire a trusted roadie to hand you tuned guitars. However I think she likes leaning into the energy that this slower pacing provides.
@Peter_LiveMusic4 жыл бұрын
I think the pauses nicely slow down the performance, like cleaning the palette between courses of a rich dinner, so personally I have no problem with them. I'll have to check out Nick Drake's live performances to see how they compare. Thanks for the info.

@@Peter_LiveMusic There is a live BBC radio performance album from Nick Drake called The John Peel Session. That's the only live recording of him performing I'm familiar with, ...but it's pretty great, so that's good. Group with a similar feeling to Aldous and Nick is Kings of Convenience, especially songs like 'Scars on Land'.

When I saw her live I was up close, too, and was struck by how much she'd resemble an animatronic when she'd get into song mode, especially under the stage lighting. Her exaggerated, offbeat facial expressions and posture elicit that 'uncanny valley' feeling. Mesmerizing and super eerie. One of the most memorable encounters of my life.
@Peter_LiveMusic4 жыл бұрын
You've described her performance very well, although for people who haven't actually experienced her live, it might sound a little off-putting. When I see her again (and I'm hoping that will be sooner rather than later), I'll be trying my hardest to get as close to the front as I can. Thanks for your insightful comment.

She reminds me more of Meredith Monk than anyone else. She even looks like her. if you don't know Monk she's been a composer/playwright since the 70s, sort of parallel in era and approach to Laurie Anderson.
