This song is bittersweet for me. The "wanted to see me, what you gonna do" part has been on repeat in my brain since I did in fact see Hanna a few hours after her concert with no one else around, her vinyl in my hand, and couldn't walk up to her and ask for an autograph. I've been regretting that ever since...

Yeah I’m sure she would have been fully obliging. She use to work for me, unless she has changed dramatically. She was always extremely down to earth and certainly never thought she was better than anyone. We’re quite good friends in those days.

You are, unabashedly, yourself. A record label takes you on or others try to change you and you decide to "take a dive", try something new. You try become someone you're not, someone they want, but you can't do it- you still remain true to yourself and are happy that way. The label "throws you away" or people don't understand because you didn't become what they asked. You struggle with them "throwing you away" but see so many others who are thriving and comfortable with themselves, fighting the conformities of big labels or social pressure. You nurture yourself, you allow nurturing through observing others. You find a label (or someone) that supports who you truly are and nurtures that with you. Fans that understand and adore you for being your true self. You find true bliss and soar. Neil Young was himself. He did what he wanted and didn't write to appease listeners or labels. He never spelled things out. He was himself. This inspires other people, like Aldous, to do the same. “If I’m feeling confused, I always listen to him, and go, ‘That’s how things should sound. In the sense that it’s music that leaves me hopelessly baffled by his intentions, his secrets.” -Aldous Harding on Neil Young
