A few important things: - Firstly, I unfortunately had to overlay loud music and scatter the audio a bit for the Monster Speech clip, as well as cutting out parts of it as well due to copyright claims. That's why you'll notice a bit of an abrupt cut around 9:27-9:28 or so. So sorry about that but it had to be done. Also, the audio/my voice sounds different because I got a new mic. - Secondly, a bunch of the songs used in this video were covers from the channel called DudesCover, who does awesome work. Links to each song individually are available in the description as always. Check them out! - kzbin.info/door/LBAn02929YvEOTBdlVN9nQ - And last but not least, I recall someone making the point to me 1.5-2 years ago that Oikawa may have made his talent “bloom” during that crazy set, as I postulated here. This is an idea I initially disagreed with but eventually came to agree with after re-experiencing Inarizaki, so (better late than never) that person’s interpretation is something I’ve come to see a lot of validity from, as is obvious from how I alluded to that idea in the video. I’d love to give whoever it was credit for presenting that idea before I came to agree with it, but unfortunately I can’t find the original comment. I’ve searched through my Haikyuu videos for it but have been unable to find it. If you were that person, please let me know and I’ll be sure to edit this comment to credit you, and I will link the comment if possible!

I´m gonna be honest with you, this is VERY idealistic. I´m not gonna say that there is no one like that in the real world, cause it might be, but I don´t think you need to be like that. Feeling a little bit nervous before important thing in your life is actually good for you, because it gives you more focus. The only problem is that people usually don´t control there emotions well, so they become way more anxious than they should. So don´t try to eliminate your anxiety, just accept it and keep it in control
@treesaregreen
@treesaregreen 3 жыл бұрын
i believe the hard part is the self-control to make your routine as healthy, focused, productive as possible, while still being appreciative. well.. the appreciation comes at the end, such as when he got his No.1 Jersey (role of captain): AKA having the self-control over your routine, the patience/resistance to stick with it until the reward/appreciation kicks in. AKA not having a short attention span. i know that doesn't translate well, but a short attention span is a telling result of the inability to focus on a task, especially tedious ones that Kita went through with every day. the emotional aspect comes after, and at That point, with That kind of daily foundation, it would be quite easy. you can disagree with me if you want: emotions are easier to control than your entire daily routine. Paulo's right in saying that it's better to identify and accept scenarios/emotions/reality and control/adapt from there. however the line "people usually don´t control there emotions well" just doesn't sit right with me. i know it may somehow be a great minority, but the people who Really Want to have awareness, acceptance and control over their routines/habits/emotions, all do it very well. as it showed us in the show, it's step by step. you don't have to work your ass off. it's not gonna suddenly happen over a week. all you need is the mindset of improving your foundation/routine and time. the strength of your control starts to strengthen like a muscle, the more you try and successfully control yourself, the better you get at it. (dopamine cycles kind of help with that.) suger, alcohol, maybe even coffee... theres all sorts of addictions/dependencies. dietary health, sanitary health, physical health, mental health, work, rest. to master the balance of all these aspects is of course difficult. but with all the time you have until death, it is a lax journey... once you're used to it, it is as simple as 'living life'.

Kita is slowly becoming my favorite character in Haikyuu. At this point I can't decide between Sugawara and Kita. Both of them know they lack the so called "talent" but both are mature and disciplined simply because they know the value of hard work. They're similar in that neither of them play volleyball to quote, "get ahead in life" they simply do it because they love it. They play it because they want to stand on the court with their friends and they rejoice when they see their teammates playing and experiencing volleyball to the max. Lets Get Fluffy Hinata didn’t really start off as a “crazy speed, high jump, super stamina player” either he never actually got to play proper volleyball if anything he started off the latest he got to where he was by practicing by himself and using the people around him as help he quite literally learned to jump at a such high caliber because he used the walls and asked his friends to set for him and since they weren’t volleyball players they always gave him high tosses he only started doing decent receives during the inarizaki and nekoma games. Hinata is possibly one of the most disadvantaged players in the whole show he yearned for the sport but he had no way to play and neither the “build and height”.

@@izmyna9701 I disagree with that partly. Although he worked very hard, I believe he is naturally very athletic and a quick learner. He didn't get to play that much before high school but quickly learned and became a strong player. It's also hinted at how athleticism runs through is family, as his little sister is first at everything in gym class. I mean no way how you twist or turn it, Hinata was not a late bloomer. Yes he had a big disadvantage that I do agree with, but the fact that he managed to get past that so quickly shows that he isn't really normal. Tbf though, I guess Hinata didn't have much else to do than train his body when he couldn't play, he worked very hard. But he was shining and different ever since his debut, something Hoshiumi was not.

you bring up an interesting point about “the process” - people may start out their volleyball journeys at different levels of aptitude or take different paths to the top, but as long as they put the hard work in, they will inevitably achieve similar greatness. i think this really contradicts the initially-cynical perspective that genius trumps hard work - the idea that oikawa first seems to believe, although furudate does an excellent job of making this paradigm shift during the inarizaki match feel completely natural and nearly indiscernible. i particularly loved your analysis on kita; his quiet diligence and his pure admiration for the “monsters” he calls teammates make him such a refreshing character to watch. while he doesn’t hold the same ambitions for volleyball as other characters, kita’s journey towards becoming captain is both emotionally touching and a well-timed reminder that hard work does yield its own rewards (something that he ponders with aran in that flashback). kita’s perspective provides the crux of the significance that the inarizaki match has in the greater context of haikyuu. also, the montage of ushiwaka, bokuto, and hinata during kita’s speech was masterful. gave me actual chills. as always, thank you for the excellent video!

Even though Furudate Sensei himself said that at the beginning he wrote Oikawa is the excellent type and that Kageyama is the genius type and left it to readers and then later on while working on Inarizaki vs Karasuno match, he actually put what he meant by Talent; That no one is born with it, I still think initially leaving this grey definition of Talent was really necessary for Tooru's character growth. While Kageyama and Ushijima had his family members in VB already which might have served as an early introduction for their game sense for VB. Both Shoyo and Oikawa were influenced by someone else they saw on TV. Kita's speech is very clear about Talent but I personally did like Oikawa's character approach. Most of the people that we encounter in daily lives will be saying that they don't have any talent so it was a relatable idea. The best thing about Haikyuu is seeing that one team is a villain and everyone is doing this for their own reasons. Personally, Haikyuu To The Top was my anime of the year for 2020, and I'm gonna be honest it's mostly because of the incredible stretch of the last 4-5 episodes which were just insane. This is how you write an arc that has so many paralles to the previous ones but never feels repetitive in any way, shape or form. The payoff for the character development that's been built up over the last 3 1/2 season was just so amazing, I was on the edge of my seat most of the time and completely speechless after the matchpoint ended.

The Inarizaki match is very deep writing. With respect to Kita, there is even a reproach of his mindset baked into the story, which is why Daichi prevails over him - having both the diligence mindset as well as the "one step forward" mindset. The entire match is structured like Karasuno playing against themselves, seeing if they are capable of evolving. Inarizaki are framed as the ultimate version of Karasuno before the loss to Aoba Johsai - this is emphasized with the final point, particularly the close-up of "We Don't Need The Memories". If Karasuno still held that mindset, they would never have beaten Inarizaki, or Aoba Johsai before that. Instead, a combination of relentlessly pushing forward and a careful curation of your past allows them to take one step further than Inarizaki did.

@@mateaomazic1390 they both have this protective leadership for their respective teams, but the striking difference between them was Kita protects by being there to save them when his teammates make mistakes, while Daichi protects his teammates by assuring and enacting that he fights with them as well, making his minset more on offensive side than Kita's mindset being on the preventive side, and we know which has a better opportunity for scoring. I am not saying one is better than the other. It really depends on the situation they were in. Even Daichi has become a Kita during the Jozenji and the early stages of Wakunan match.

What I also loved about the Inarizaki match was that, while it wasn’t exactly outright confirmed, I’d make a guess and say that the Twins’ minus tempo was more similar to the version 1, the one Kageyama and Hinata used, but lost with, against Seijoh in season 1. Them managing to beat Inarizaki kind of sends a message that yes, they did indeed manage to progress even further through the hard work they put in improving their quick.

Some people who are the best at what they do have put less time into their work and still managed to be in a league of their own. Either that or they just have high conscientiousness and actually have follow-through and can get more hard work done. Sure, talent can't replace hard work, but it does give it the batteries.

Honestly upon looking back at the final rally of the Karasuno vs Seijoh match I always came to the conclusion that it wasn't resignation but rather a realization, however one that came too late. After the flashback and Oikawa talking about making his talent bloom, he manages to make the super fast and long set up from outside the court, the kind of play that really only kageyama would have been able to make at points before that, indicating at least to me that he had realized he may actually be capable of greater heights if he doesn't limit himself to trying to work within self imposed restraints, "trying things from 1-10" instead of A-Z or denser 10's as kita puts it. In that sense as well he is able to from the back of the court read where Hinata is going to spike it and prepares to receive it, only missing it because it tips off of mad dog's hand. On top of that, on a rewatch I found it interesting that during the confrontation between Kageyama, Hinata and Ushijima, Ushijima refers to Oikawa's ability to draw out the absolute best in his players as a talent in and of itself, one that Oikawa doesn't seem to realize is completely unique to him in the anime so far. Very few can understand their teammates on as deep a level as he can, even if they are more technically able like kageyama.

at the time, oikawa was the only character in haikyuu who used to draw a spiker’s full potential. But that’s exactly the development we see in kageyama during the practice after hinata’s ball boy arc. Kageyama was frustrated by atsumu’s comment about him being a goody-two shoes who adjusted pleased his spikers instead of being strict in pushing his spikers to their full potential. And in the practice at karasuno we see him finally demanding his teammates to get rid of their bad habits tho in asahi’s case, kageyama didn’t realize he was trying a new method. When hinata crowns him and his teammates accept him as he is, kageyama finally overcomes his past. Atsumu had expected kageyama to be a setter like oikawa since kageyama was known as the king of the court back in the day. That’s why atsumu called him a goody-two shoes when he was disappointed to see kageyama’s new state/wasted potential after his teammates at kita ichi abandoned him in a match. The fact that atsumu realises what he needs to do as a setter (draw out the potential in his spikers) shows that atsumu _is_ also another setter like oikawa in the making. He does push his teammates along with his crazy reliable sets. We know that because we’re shown atsumu setting to kageyama and for the first time kageyama was seen to be having fun and felt like he somehow got better at spiking. But that was thanks to Atsumu’s toss! Which means, Oikawa, Atsumu and later kageyama all grow to become the setter of Ushijima’s description.

Its not a talent unique to him, atsumu does that as well, and kageyama is touching that level. Its not a talent HOWEVER its his talent. He views kageyama's ability to pin point set as a talent, Ushijimas powerful spike as something special. When iwaizumi told him that this is a 6 on 6 sport Oikawa decides that his fighting ground against these monsters would be his teamates. "Get the best out of everyone to beat the blessed". So he does 1-20 instead of 1-10, a to z, tooth and nail, sweat amd tears to hone, what he thought was his only weapon, to be on the court without realising this is how you make talent bloom. Like kita said People you see as genius does that in every aspect of what they view they can use. And oikawa did it just in the hopes of beating the blessed instead on focussing what else can he hone
@ananyasharma7463
@ananyasharma7463 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I always thought that, its not that oikawa is untalented but his talent lies elsewhere. For kageyama it maybe in the accuracy of his toss, and for oikawa it lies in his ability to read opponents and teammates. Its only that one skill is easier to see and gauge in a quantifiable way and the other is not. Even before the series ended, I always felt that oikawa being untalented thing is only in his head. And as much as his mindset might have held him back, his sheer diligence and consistent hardwork to move forward despite thinking he is not that talented is what saved him. As much as he was insecure he still believed in himself enough to not give up and keep trying achieve his dreams. And as much oikawa comes across as petty and childish, how can anyone not admire and respect such an inspirational character. Very few people even in real life can follow their own path without any regrets for the choices they made, like not going to shiratorizawa.

This explanation is so great and accurate. You see, I have a cousin who's a scholar. She wasn't before but due to sad and unexpected circumstances she was going to enroll in a different school but she was given a scholarship because she was a great and valuable volleyball player. (She became the captain on her last year just like Kita) In her case, she had to maintain her grades for her to maintain her scholarship. She wasn't the smartest student nor was she the best player in her team but what she had was a great study habit and consitency. Every single night she studies, reads and memorize things and during games she practices until she gets it. If she makes a mistake she starts over. She graduated with what was supposed to be with honors. But some bitch had some tantrum and well, it was upsetting for her and for our entire family. Well anyway, she's happy now with a husband and a baby on the way. She was my tutor too, so she helped me a lot. To summarize...consistentcy and discipline can help you a loooot.

Loved this analysis! I really think these "monsters" all have one defining talent - their unwavering love for volleyball and willingness to put work into it, no matter what. Remember when Osamu says to Atsumu, "I think you love volleyball just a bit more than me" - it is Atsumu's fierce love for volleyball that pushes him to work harder than anyone else, even his twin. Same thing for Kageyama - we're shown from a young age that he didn't really care about what new video game or whatever all his classmates were preoccupied with, he wanted to play volleyball every day and worked hard at it for a long long time. When Hinata is struck by watching the little giant that one time, he tries his hardest to learn volleyball despite being the only one in the club, begging his friends and practicing alone every day. And when he finally gets the chance to be on a real volleyball team in high school, his years of yearning turn into him working extremely hard to catch up and be willing to spike any ball. And he's constantly thinking of ways he can get improve, like during the youth camp when he acknowledges that he still has so much to learn, and also what he decides to do after graduation to get better at volleyball. They may have been born with some natural gifts, like Hinata's athletic ability, but it is their constant hard work driven by their love for volleyball that makes them so good.

The greatest power of Haikyuu isn't the fact it presents a struggle to become great, it's the fact it constantly presents the struggle to become a better version of yourself. With the exception of Kageyama (and perhaps, MAYBE Noya), all the players on the Kurosano team know they are not as naturally talented as other players they come up against. For Hinata, he KNOWS he will never be as tall or reach as high as some players but he is learning how he can be a better player regardless. They have individual goals and desires, sure, but at its heart it has a message of putting one foot in front of another and trying to make yourself better. Its why Kageyama is such a great foil for this concept - he is already so good but he knows he can't stand still. He has to keep improving. Not because he isn't good but because becoming better is the path he wants to take. I love it. The fact that you can be rooting for Kurosano and still fall in love with the opposition is also outstanding. I can't think of hardly another TV show which manages that.

I didn't thought about it as anything special. Not about sport but about other things like drawing. I'm a hobby artist and I may have some initial talent but the rest of it is just a hard work. The small steps you do and keep doing every day. I can't do a lot of things. Some people draw amazing stuff and I can't get human faces right. I can't draw naturally looking clothes. I can't do many things but I also can't give up on it since drawing is like an addiction for me. And that is the only talent I ever want to hear about. Everything else is an insult of the hard work we all put into it.

. . . Thats wrong. No talent shall bloom without hard work. But not for each person who works hard a talent blooms. You can become very good at something without a lot of talent. You cant become one of the best without it. Talent is essentially an innate limit of your body and mind which you can reach with maximum effort and focus but wont go beyond. A passion and obsession are also talents in their own rights tbh. An expression of your passion is an expression of your mind. An expression of your mind is an expression of your brain. And your brain is made with certain limitations and capabilities which you cant go beyond. And i am afraid thats just pure science. Biology to be precise. Its not really debatable.

I think right the next chapter we learn how ushijima didnt do well at the world stage and he talks about a kid calling him lame to Tendou (who laughs and tells him to become a star lol) and then the whole bit with iwaizumi happens and we see Ushijima completely discarding his old weapon in hopes of mastering a new and formidable one. I loved this video! It was really well made (idk where to start complementing) ... and I also love Oikawa’s ark! But it came to my mind why the show is even better - the Kita/Aran scene. I absolutely 100% agree with Kita that we are a product of what we do every day! And if you want the top you have to take time honing a skill. And that taking a leap and doing your best every day is a talent in it self. And so on. BUT can we talk about Arans comment about ... (something about) if we need a reason to be happy. Like it seems Kita is insinuating, kind of that if you haven’t been doing those little things every day, you won’t feel achieved. Even if Kita is caring, and understands that it’s difficult to execute his philosophy.. Aran’s comment, and the teams reactions on him and their view of Kita as cold when they for instance saw that Kita never had gotten a bad grade proves something. “Failing? What is that?”. It proves that Kita’s mindset is different from the rest, but thats obviously okay. Then Aran untimely comments to Kitas philosophy by saying - if you’re happy you’re just happy, do you need a reason for it? It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with how you treat your self, feelings in general such as happiness are not always explainable in “a process”. To Arans comment. Kita laughs. I think it proves that the show is saying: hey, it’s okay there are many outlooks on life that are valid. (Not just one) Haikyuu is so well made!

Efforts will soon bloom into a talent, but talent alone without the efforts is fruitless and useless. Geniuses are not born nor made instantly, they are crafted by time, effort and dedication. Being special is a gift, it's up to you if you'll develop that gift into something more.

How come an anime teaches me more in life than any educational system I've entered...?! Isn't this mind-blowing ? I just realized that I failed my exam because I knew that I would fail it. I looked at it again and it was actually pretty easy... When I stumbled upon a difficult task I got so nervous and knew I would fail, but it WAS NOT THAT DIFFICULT OMG! Giving it a second try this month.

Whenever any of my students complain how "it's impossible, I have no talent, I should just give up" or "omg I wish I was born talented like you" I just want them to listen to Kita's speech. It's honestly my favorite and Kita is goals. I wish I can explain how frustrating it is as a teacher to get a student who believes in talent without hard work. Cockiness, anxiety, depression, jealousy, pettiness, hurt, I just never find anything useful I can work with (I try to encourage pettiness at least for competitiveness, for my Tsuki like students lmao).

The first thing I did was give this video a like, I love the analysis and perspectives you propose in all the videos I've seen. Your video on Oikawa is one of my favorites, I remember that you commented on that video saying what you where presenting in it was not the definitive view on hard work and talent presented by the manga. So I really appreciate that fact that you mention that shift in perspective on this video. It truly shows how dedicated and thoughtful you are when creating them.

I wish Haikyuu!! had been released earlier, when I was really young. I would be still playing my favorite sport, probably (even professionally). This shows is just so amazing it makes me wanna go back in time and try harder and not let anything discourage me from playing the sport I love the most (football/soccer). I think that even more than skill and talent, you need to think clearly and try to make the best choices for your path, as a player. Luck might be involved too, but the most important stuff is in your head.

That’s so true, it wasn’t as personal as previous matches, I think for me personally the Aoba Johsai matches will forever hold a special and dear place in my heart, 2 seasons of buildup where you really get to know and grow with both teams and start to root for both of them! Each loss and victory was deeply felt from either side like, immensely so.

I in all honesty cannot put into words how much I love Haikyuu, and how this show not only changed my outlook on life, enriched it, and re-contextualized the way I understand things, but also saved me from my almost absolute lack of hope for my life. Your videos always bring out the reasons I love the shows and characters I do and put them into the words I find so troubling to express. You truly are amazing in the way you create your content. Thank you for your awesome uploads!

I loved this analysis! Innate talent is less about what you're born with, but how much you can use what you have to overcome what stops you. I say this while working with nothing gunning for me at the moment, goal less and lost that I am. 😅

For some reason I can't find the comment in question anymore, but to whoever I was talking with about karma - I replied that I didn't imply the "reward" wording to be taken quite that literally, and that aside from that the parallels are quite easy to see even if it isn't as exact and abstract.

There's this quote that sums part of what Haikyuu is trying to say. I'm not sure who said it, but I remember him being a basketball coach. "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" I think, because hard work is basically the simultaneous act of polishing your instincts and also nuturing the soil your talent blooms on, after a while, that hard work won't look like hard work anymore. After a while, you'll find it being called "talent".

This hits very close to home for me. I'm an artist. this is exactly why I get irritated when people look at my work and say "oh you're so talented!" And when I reply "no. not really. I just practiced really hard." and they just insist that it's some sort of innate ability, I get extremely pissed off because it basically negates the years and years of persistent practicing, and learning, that I've put in every single day of my life, to be able to do what I do. I wish people would finally start realising that telling someone "you're so talented!" is not a compliment. It's the worst kind of insult.

And kageyamas flashback in the end of the haikyuu manga really reinforced this message from kita for me. *spoilert alert* to this point it was just a fact that everybody thought of kageyama as a genius, but to really see his love and passion for volleyball since he was a child was really wonderful to see. him playing because of his sister and grandfather and his daily training to become better ... then the time when his sister quit, his grandfather died and he felt all alone with something that gave him once joy and messing up plays in kitagawa daichi ... that really polished his character more then i thought

I recently saw a video by a youtuber names Digi about Kuroko no basket vs Hailyuu, he said Haikyuu didn't have memorable characters. Here we are talking about a side character who was maybe the least showman of all during yet left an impact greater than most characters with their own series.

Okay I've watched the video and it's as wonderful as ever!!! Kita's words struck a chord with me when I picked Haikyuu up again after 2.5 years. I love his philosophy and outlook so much because as simple as it is, it's true. Some of us have a natural aptitude to things, be it sports, maths, drawing etc, while the rest of us have to work extremely hard to get to the same level. In the end though, imo the results will be the same, regardless of where you started; to get to the top, you need to put in the work and be consistent. It's as simple as that. I was particularly touched when I reflected his words in my own journey. I'm not an athlete by any means, but I do love math. Math at university level is undeniably tough, and you can't help but compare yourself to others who seem like "geniuses". But, I can actually get the same results as them, I just have to put in the extra work. Be consistent, do things every day, practice, and you WILL get there. Thank you for the amazing video!!!
