Like the meaning of the SSSS in its title: "Scarred Souls Shine like Stars.." Dynazenon gets right to the focus on its story about damaged characters who have to overcome their individual trauma together as a group.

This video made me realize that much like Gridman, Dynazenon can be viewed as a repudiation of unhealthy escapism. For Gridman it was the kind of escapism for geeks who immerse themselves in a fantasy as a crutch for anxiety, but Dynazenon seems to target a Marcusian type of revolutionary escapism. I always knew Dynazenon was trying to say something about pursuing meaning in a imperfect world without dramatic anime battles, but you really put it together for me.

The Gridman series is very much underrated. I remember picking up Gridman on the fly back when it was airing, and was really impressed with the direction, cinematography, and storytelling. Dynazenon was a bit of a departure from gridman, but still managed to live to what the original did. I loved the characters and overall feeling of the show. However, Akane, in Gridman, is such a tremendous and compelling villian and remains one of my favorite characters
@Gahanun3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for putting this into words. Dynazenon really resonated with me like no other show. Many people say that Shinji pulled them out of their dark spot when watching NGE at their lowest. For me following the Dynazenon crew was like that. So many of the scenes brought back melancholic memories, both joys and regrets of what I've experienced with my friends over the years. The biggest testament to this is the fact that even as an absolute waifu simp I found myself most invested in Yomogi and Koyomi throughout the whole journey. As a story Gridman is surely carried by Akane's great writing, but to me Dynazenon will forever be 'mood of life, the anime'. There is something to the presentation and rawness of the quiet moments, the uncertainty, directionless, yet hopefulness.

While I personally think Gridman was more climactic and did the mecha moments better, Dynazenon made me ADORE every single character. Every character just felt completely natural and human, unlike most SOL anime which rely on exaggerated traits just to make them interesting. And as seen from my profile, I LOVE Yume. That 45 second churro scene is actually the greatest scene from any anime.

This show really won me over and ended up one of my favorite shows of the year. There are plenty of differences from Gridman. But I think it thrives in all that. In a sense the most dramatic and painful stuff for the main cast already happened. And the story is partly about them dealing with that pain and finding a path forward. Thus why so much focus does land right on that episode of them facing their pasts again. In part a story of healing. I'm kind of glad they did have a different direction and focus than Gridman. It allows both shows to shine in different ways. The details are nice for sure. They really took care in this show to drop those in there. Can get by without really noticing them, but can get a lot out of it if you do.

It reminds me of the time when I was younger and get excited whenever there is an enemy and the whole squad has to round up and watch the whole combination sequence... now it feels like a chore. Watching SSSS.Dynazenon was strange for me. On one hand I had zero interest in the mecha part of the story and on the other hand it depicts romance, friendship and general character interaction better, more grounded and realistic than pretty much most romance/romcom anime. All scene's with Yume and her best friend hanging out are pure gold. I would have loved a more realistic setting for this story while keeping the overall themes/character interactions and character work intact. Making the Eugenecists and Gauma delinquents/street gang members/low level criminials would have worked perfectly.

I've loved the kaiju genre all my life. Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Power Rangers (kind of), and many more have been a passion of mine since I could remember. I love SSSS Gridman and Dynazenon but you know what? I've never looked at the show from your point of view. When both shows ended, I more or less compared them as mirror images of themselves, parallels if you will. Case in point with Gridman the show had a good story with a main cast of heroes ranging from okay to ultimately unnecessary while the villains were the best thing about the show with each having major character arcs. Dynazenon is reverse, with an okay story, great heroes and villains who were unnecessary. The Kaiju Eugenicists were seen by me as just so utterly useless at their jobs that they seemed to not care about what they do. But after hearing what you have to say my view on them had changed a bit. I still see them as inept but at least now I can see each of them as characters who are very single minded in their goals. My favorite scene in this whole anime was when Yume was in her dream and finally got the chance to speak with her sister, having a moment together for what is their final time seeing each other. I'm sure many people who watched this has lost someone close to them and wished they could have one last sit down to tell them how much they meant or to apologize for something stupid they did or a simple I love you. I have said this many times and I will say it again. SSSS Gridman and to an extent SSSS Dynazenon feel like a response to the Godzilla Anime Trilogy, what failed in those movies were countered in these series and moreover a series adapted from a Tokusatsu hero who's been dormant for now almost 30 years. Studio Trigger succeeded in doing the impossible and boy howdy do I love them for it. With Gridman Universe set to premiere its first movie in cinemas next year, and more projects on the way, I think we'll be seeing more of the Hero of Dreams soon enough. Many thanks to you who made this video. Baby dan dan forever!
@Kaiju-bm4ts2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say gridman and dynazenon were a response to the anime trilogy since both gridman and godzilla are owned by different companies that most likely weren't aware of each other's anime projects til both revealed them publicly. It's just a coincidence gridman came out around the anime trilogy meanwhile dynazenon came out around singular point. Both anime are better than godzilla's anime for sure but it's just a coincidence both were released around similar times.

Personally, Dynazenon never really lived up to Gridman for me. I didn't dislike it or anything, but I consistently felt that Gridman just had more interesting directing, more engaging music (all of the Dynazenon's best tracks were originally from Gridman), and told a more compelling story. I do think that Dynazenon had a more well-developed cast on the whole, but the amount of love poured into Gridman's central antagonist really shone in a way no character in Dynazenon really did, and the ending of Gridman was mind-blowingly-good while Dynazenon, at least in my opinion, really fizzled out.

This show honestly had so many plot holes and writing inconsistencies that I really couldn't enjoy it. It had some great things but felt like two writers struggling to give screen time to their stories and ignoring the others. Gridman was a lot more clean imo. I hope the next installment can do better.
@Kaiju-bm4ts2 жыл бұрын
Ironic you call this a story full of plot holes when gridman and dynazenon literally had the same premise 🙄, that's like trashing spiderman 2 but praising spiderman 1. This video alone kinda debunks your stance on the "inconsistencies" the show has.

@@Kaiju-bm4ts A premise is not the plot. That's the summary and or hook to the story. No where did I talk about that.
@Kaiju-bm4ts2 жыл бұрын
@@upg5147 And yet the summary of both shows are still pretty much the same only with slight differences, still doesn't stray away from the odd issues you have with dynazenon when those same ssues could be applied to gridman just as easily. Especially when both shows literally had the same writer and I've seen people trash gridman for reasons x y and z but praise dynazenon same way you're doing now by trashing this but praising gridman. I would argue gridman has better villains but dynazenon had better protagonist, yomogi for example is his own individual meanwhile yuta was basically being possessed by gridman the entire time thus leaving us to not know the "real" him, only indication of the real him was his feelings for rikka. Akane was much deeper as a villain meanwhile the villains of dynazenon while good weren't as deep as her. Akane In a sense was more of a main character than yuta was meanwhile gauma and yomogi were the actual main characters of dynazenon leaving the villains to not steal the spotlight. Overall I don't see how gridman was more "clean" when it only succeeded in it's villains but lacked the heroic development that dynazenon did better in comparison. Both shows spent more time focusing on one side more than the other which creates a polar opposite effect for both stories. Both series have something but lack something at the same time which I why I like both equally. Gridman for the villains and dynazenon for the heroes.
@upg51472 жыл бұрын
@@Kaiju-bm4ts You are looking at it from that one angle of heroes and villains when I'm talking about the show overall. That means characters that means plot beats that means pacing, everything. Also, you are almost a year late to this conversation so I have zero clue what my points were anymore. I can't debate this. Finally, I don't want to come off as praising Gridman. While I said more more clean that doesn't mean perfect. It has flaws much like this series but I believe it has less major issues. Again, can't name those issues anymore without doing some recap that I'm not interested in doing. So sorry.
@Kaiju-bm4ts2 жыл бұрын
@@upg5147 And yet both shows are literally more character and plot driven above all else, that's why I only mentioned the characters since the pacing is about the same as gridman's and the plot while different is still somewhat similar to that of gridman's. Also....there's no limit on when I can comment on anyone's comment really,
