I have always beeb a big fan for Alekhine's and games such as this are a big reason. Thanks for showing such gems Mato.

2:09 Knight to G6 was my second guess behind castling kingside. Most of black's power pieces were to the left of the board.

"Alekhine played the best." No surprise there. ☺ Fun game, Mato!

I was looking right at the killer move but I was focused on the black squared bishop and both Knights instead of the white squared bishop and queen. Very well done

so i have a question: what if instead of bishop to G6 would the knight to G6 have worked better? That was the continuation I saw after i immediately thought "castle the king. No wait it needs to be more spectacular". I can see pros and cons but im not really good at comparing the two moves outside of threatening black's pieces vs sacrificing pieces to check (and alternate white defenses). White could have lost his advantage with his original continuation had his knight not escaped the trap.

nevermind, i literally just thought of the defense for black as i posted my comment. As I see it, it would be a trade of the knight for the bishop or preventing the knight from moving. both would weaken white's position. This is why i dont win games hahaha

What is very clear is the lack of engine influence on subconscious decision making. There was no computer chess. Now games can be reviewed and engine can suggest moves. In reviewing games this way the unconscious is influenced severely. Even games i win on FICS i review using Stockfish. I may have overlooked and made mistakes the opponent didnt realize. Additionally the goal of no emotion is influenced at the unconscious, needed in this world. I find the mindset of Alekhine is to attack and while successful, i wonder if he would be as highly ranked now as then.

@unspeakablevorn8 жыл бұрын
If 20. ... Qxg6, 21. Nxg6+ Kf7 and the hope later on (at move 21, 4:08) that black will end up with three light pieces vs two rooks no longer holds: the knight can flee or be exchanged for the bishop on f8.
