5:27 why not knight takes on a8 instead of rook?
@nas16178 жыл бұрын
objective is to simplify the board by eliminating as much black minor and major pieces. black can no longer move his rook after rook takes on a8 due to pin/open check. white on the other hand will have two horses and stronger pawn isles.

Why white is better: black has a bad bishop and an isolated pawn. White has better pawn structure, better activity of the pieces and control over the only open file. Also white rook is facing black queen.

Having the advantage of historical hindsight, a good , strong player saddled with black against Alekhine was simply unfair. Like a ruthless thief, Aekhine stripped his opponent, spanked him on the butt and sent him on his way.

To be fair it would probably have been much the same with colours reversed. The disparity is too great, I went through some analysis with Ray Keene many years ago (I was a strong player on a regional level but gave up for two decades due to other things - damn life) with another top club player. We had ratings in the 1550-1750 range, and were both good at opening theory, but over a series of experimental 'games' just covering openings, we struggled to maintain an even position for longer than 15 moves or so. The best results were to try and draw him onto rarely played lines or ultra sharp ones, Danish Gambit (the full version), Scicilian Naidorf Poisoned Pawn, Falkbeer Counter Gambit, and some lines in the Benoni Gambit, or even Larsens Opening. In the Grunfeld, Kings indian, Ruy Lopez, and Queens Gambit, he would routinely get a better position or pawn advantage and make it count.
