Prepping is a hedge against inflation-look at home much prices have risen over the past few years. It also is good if you live in areas that experience cold winters, natural disasters, etc., or you experience a job loss or health crisis. It just buys peace of mind.

The ideal scenario is being able to hunker down in our homes, However, We may have to bug out and leave all of our food behind.. You need a plan to have a second location to go to if needed. Have pre-made bins with breakfast, lunch and dinner foods that you can grab and go.

This is my "Immediate Actions" list I made a few years ago. If I KNEW we had just been NUKED. Of course FIRST is to contact family and BRING them HOME NOW! Alright Family is safe at home... Now what!? #1 Take Iodine Pills (and give to family members). 2 min to complete. #2 Measure outside radiation level with geiger counter (LOG IT)! 0.15 uSv/hr is normal. #3 Shut off the gas line to the house. #4 Tarp the outside of the three downstairs basement windows. I have tarps, tent pegs and duct tape. The idea being to keep the fallout away from the window wells. #5 Screw air filter to OUTSIDE incoming combustion air vent. #6 Deploy Goal Zero Solar panels... (I have upgraded my Solar panels since this list.... 2.8 kWHr system now... for freezer) #7 Duct tape around exterior doors, attempt to make air tight. #8 Put Charcoal and air filters in Combustion Air Filter System. ( I build a charcoal filtered air system ). In case of poisonous gasses etc. NO WAY TO MAKE o2 yet.... #9 Stage Fire Extinguishers in outdoor hall-wall. So, I actually printed this list off and stuck it next to my desk.... been thinking about it ... CARRY ON!!!

A Generac Generator will prove worthless in the long run. It's only good for the short term. Get a solar generator with solar panels. I'm in an apartment with the original electric panel. I don't dare put too much of a load on it, or breakers will trip or burn out. For that reason, I run my Panda centrifuge on the solar generator. It spins at a mere 3200 rpm. And it only takes a minute to reach top speed. That means it's pulling a lot of power in a very short amount of time. It's also great for a grid down situation. My clothes are run almost completely dry after they are rinsed in a washer, then spun in the Panda. I would rather hand wash and use the Panda (or Laundry Alternative [competitor]), than spend my power on a portable washing machine. The Panda spins much faster than any portable washer and drying clothes is the hardest part of doing laundry. It takes too much time.

I hope not, I truly hope not. My grandparents on both sides were of the Depression/WWII era and it was no picnic. I worry that this country would descend into utter chaos if we had to deal with a war, lack of services, rationing, etc.. The Depression era folks were a lot more self-sustaining than we are today. I've met many 20 somethings who cannot use a stove let alone building and maintaining a fire!
