About 35 years ago, foreigners were required to get a tax clearance certificate. With that document you were able to leave Thailand. I remember I went to the revenue department and told them I would be required to pay taxes in my own country. I was issued a certificate in 5 minutes.

Excellent series of videos; professional, succinct and on point. Always based my decisions in life on empirical evidence. So called ‘advisors’ who’ve recently attempted to sell services to me lack the most basic knowledge of Thai retirement visa procedures and personal tax legislation. Researched one such advisor; not a resident or work permit holder in Thailand. Previously worked in Africa and Europe in an associated industry; need I say more. Keep up the good work.

Indeed. Those who think immigration will work together with the tax revenue department for future visa extensions, think again. Yesterday Chonburi Immigration made a statement saying there are no plans whatsoever to connect extensions with TINs or paid taxes. So just forget that.

Having the money in the bank requirements makes expats a target... why can't I use the money I bring in every month as proof of funds?
@waynebear642313 сағат бұрын
If you're bringing Bht 65,000 every month you can use it for an EOS and spend it as well.

The question no one is asking: how does someone compile a list of expats? I have a few ideas. Could they be getting this list from an official source?
@Ghekko-kw3zz15 сағат бұрын
They know who's on long term visas & who's entered, left, etc through border monitoring.
@jayman479514 сағат бұрын
This is precisely one of the concerns over giving detailed tax/financial info to the Thai revenue. Will they safeguard it? Will they use it for other purposes?
@MikeFoscolos-ch7ms14 сағат бұрын
Exactly right. Not only does new tax order a pain for tax planning during what is supposed to be a no hassles long stay, it is also a security issue for high net worth individuals. All of this makes Thailand a no go zone for wealthy expats.

Who remembers the online signup for expats for covid shots. It took very little for the online page to show you Passport numbers and full names, including country to anyone who knew how to trick the page. They did a $hitt job of cobbling the web apps, and that happened on more than one occasion.

Plenty of scammers out there. My wife got scammed for 23k baht last year. That was all that was in the account as it's just her farm subsidies acc. Her main account was not touched which is a blessing considering how much she has in it! When the cops catch a scammer no one seems to get their money back!

Hi Ben,Long time viewer of your channel and I have recommended it to many.I am a Canadian expat retiree.I do my tax returns in Canada and owe nothing each year.If I owe nothing to the government in Canada how on earth could I have to pay taxes in Thailand when I am not a citizen here nor have a job and get no benefits of any kind?
@jeff500112 сағат бұрын
"no benefits of any kind?" You are allowed to reside in Thailand by the Thai government. That's not a benefit of some kind?
@tamos654612 сағат бұрын
@jeff5001 I pay to do so and spend 70,000 baht a month in the Thai economy.I am a contributer for the betterment of Thai society....why should I be taxed if I go to a hospital in a life or death situation I get nothing if I do t have the money up front.
@difencrosby12 сағат бұрын
The benefit you get is to live in the Kingdom. Maybe Canada is a better place to live and not pay tax?
