6:40 there can't be different magnitudes in different locations unless there were multiple earthquakes. It's either 9.7 in one location. Or it's a mega thrust along the fault line which is more likely. If you want to communicate different magnitudes, you use Apparent Magnitudes, or the Mercalli Scale. Which is based on Observed Intensity and finally damage done to the area.
