This is a recent upload 06-01-2014 at 12:30pm. I have created this to allow everyone who has a great soundcard to listen what the Alesis SR-18 actually sound like recorded directly from the Headphone jack of the Alesis to the Line-In of the computer.
No fancy sound editing, No effects added. Just as raw as you can get it. In my 40 years of being a musician, singer and songwriter I haven't come across anything that sounds sooo good and real.

Does anybody know how to save a back up for the "user patterns"? The SR-16 had a memory problem. I went to a gig and as I turned it on, it erased all my patterns and left me with the stupid presets (which are not nice). It had a "tape in/out" that gave you a chance to save and load your patterns and drum sets. In the manual it said something about saving your patterns in some kind of sequencer. I have spent a long time programming my Latin patterns and don't want to loose them. I also want to sell them.

I was messing around with this earlier today its really good. I have an Akai XR20 so the transition to this should be seamless

Hey, I have the XR20 too and I was wondering what the Alesis has to offer that the XR20 doesn't. Just more rock/pop oriented sounds and instruments?

Sorry for the late reply. I just saw this now. The sounds on the Alesis are more modern and punchier, in my opinion, and its better for alternative, techno or industrial types of music than the XR20, which is designed mainly for hip hop (but can also be used for other genres, obviously).

Is this thing easier to program than the Boss DR880? I sold my DR880 because i just couldn't program the f***king thing. Too much like hard work. Anyone?

It really depends on your tension span! With everything, there is a learning period in everything you do regardless what it is. If you're looking for a quick fix and if you have the $'s you can get a professional to program anything you want. If you still have it, don't give up on the DR880 just yet. Give yourself time to get your head around it. Like I said, it's with everything, you've got to spend time to know the machine. Everybody's different. Some can get it right away, where others need more time.

Very impressive Andrew. I need a digital drum machine. Tired of Roland analogs with the samey sound. I'll be picking this up. Thx

Anyone know if this is easier to work with (program) than the DR880? The DR880 sounds great but I always found it a pain in the ass to work with. Any opinions?

NotMarkKnopfler the buttons, esp. the drum pads are larger. Alesis puts a label with all the preset tables on the underside of the machine. I just got the SR18, but I still have the HR-16 from ‘89, and an SR16. The lcd screen is larger and Backlit, unlike the the too-small SR16. The controls are fairly intuitive, and the work flow can be learned fairly quickly. Roland can sometimes make labyrinthine paths to perform an action - in some products, I.e., the RC-202. So, just know the product was designed in the US, so its UI reflects a western mind’s logic. I think sometimes our Japanese brothers & sestras don’t mind a bit of a maze to operate a musical instrument. Maybe it is part of the Japan rock tea ceremony...sumimasen.

I wouldn't have the foggiest. This is an old video that I have uploaded over a year ago. I have since gone further to bigger and better things. I might be selling this as at the time I thought it was a good buy but now changed my mind.

I think it is a good buy if you mess around with it enough and create presets you like

Great sounds but what songs would you play to them? I just bought one and none of my 50s and 60s songs fit any of these bazaar beats.
@BobWadeGuitar
@BobWadeGuitar 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. If you want to play straight ahead rock and roll, or swing rock, or ballads, or Beatles, Petty, Stones, or most things that people want to hear when you play a gig, these beats are worthless. I feel the same way about the Beat Buddy. What a DISAPPOINTMENT.

If you cant figure that out,buy a Boss 880.An SR 18 is a great tool,to make your own backing track to wail over with your guitar or whatever.Bass AND drums right at your fingertips.

Remember Roland TR606 & TR303? Designed to be paired up as a drum & bass set? Pre midi syncing. Well, here’s the same idea, but the tech is available now to do it right. It’s a nice addition for the “casual” player or busker. Esp., since you don’t have to run it off your iPhone or tablet. Real buttons and foot switches, too.
