Finally the new Alesis Strike Pro electronic drum kit has reached Germany, so we are here with a little tutorial and some "first impression" drumming.
#AlesisStrike #edrums #drumtec
Sadly we didn't have a lot of time, we basically received a prototype version for an afternoon, which didn´t leave much room for thorough testing and in-depth analysis. Nonetheless, we have squeezed out this and two other videos to demo the new kit, which will be uploaded to YT in the next days.
You can find the Strike Pro kit or any other electronic drum component in our online shop:
www.drum-tec.c...
Please feel free to leave a comment or ask any question you might have. You can also get in touch with our service team directly through info@drum-tec.de

Hey, thank you! Sadly, we only had this prototype version of the kit for half a day(!), so we weren´t able to really go into great depth. But we have squeezed out 2 more demo videos which will follow soon. Sadly, it will take some more time until the Strike Pro & Zone kits will officially be available in Germany & Europe. While it is already for sale in the US... :-/

Hot damn. Yeah, all the rage is the value of what you get -the quality of cymbal sounds. BUT! They are much better than a lot of the samples I've heard. Quality of hardware seems awesome. For anyone wondering, the slight issue they were having with the hi-hat has been fixed. This is just overall awesome. Tired of Roland and their ludicrous prices. - Finally a company to stand up to them. I think this video finally helped me decide that I want to order this kit.

fun part, they are the only company to counter-sue roland over patent infringement, and thats why they've started using the term "patented mesh technology" in all their videos

Not better, not sure where you got that from. All I was pointing out was that inMusic patented some drum technology and they were countersuing Roland over it, after Roland tried to sue inMusic for patent infringement of drum technology. Everyone else, like Behringer for example, just rolled over, and now they arent a player at all. Alesis, on the other hand, are still putting out decent low-cost e-drums and cutting Rolands lunch.

thx for posting, FedEx f'd up and left the big box on the dock & just dropped the Expansion, I was very worried that they hadn't put all the rack pieces in...I've owned a DDRUM4 and 3 Roland V-Drum kits, just sold #3, and from what I've seen and heard I'm really glad to be moving on from Roland, their new modules have a fraction of the sounds as the Alesis Pro and the same old sounds...I almost made the mistake of buying another Roland V-Drum...there is nothing comparable on the market and the features on the Strike module are insane !! plus they have 1760 sounds on-board plus onboard sampling and drag/drop on pad layout...this is vital to what I need in my kit. Roland has the same old 300 sounds...just look up the Strike Pro instruments list, they have like 50 Ludwig snares alone...I honestly cannot hear much diff in the TD-3 kits vs TD-25...

Great video and playing. Too many people seem to judge E drum kits from the stock factory kits included. All of these need to be adjusted as there might be some sounds that are not appealing to the player. ( these can be changed. ) I have the DM10X kit from Alesis. In my opinion it plays great but there are many settings that have to be changed for your style of playing. Most drummers who have E drums don't use the factory kits at all. They make their own. Half of the kits are geared for someone else other than you and all different styles of music. When you make your own kits, pick the cymbals, kick drum ect. their are so many possiblities and sounds and effects, the top end kits will light up. For example, real cymbals such as Paiste have a long decay, so I raise the decay on all crash cymbals, to the highest setting because it's the sound and decay that makes them sound real. Also by raising the reverb settings, this alone takes away the dryness out of all the kits and makes it studio sounding. On the drummers forum I've heard people say on the DM10X it took them 4 months to adjust the module to their playing style. In the end it's worth it. Remember an E drum kit is only as good as the sound system out. There is a lot of good sounds on the Strike kit contained in the module and numerous ways to make your own kits. I played acoustic drums my whole life so how many kits do you need anyway? Great video.

Yes. the big advantage of the Strike is you keep build customs kits that sound better than anything out there today. You have to know how to do it. The Strike is definatley not a hand holding kit. Its like a huge kitchen, but YOU have to be the chef. Not Alesis. Study on how to layer sounds, EQ, and compression. If you dont, the kit is not being used correctly, or to its potential. Heres a link to show just how bad ass this kit can sound: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaGqfaGknKxqprM

Well Put Sir. I have been playing E-Kit's since the 90's on Alesis DM4, Ronland TD-6 then TD-8 Modules on Pintech pads . "Always Loved the Feel of Roland Mesh Pads" Not as Mushy. Pintech and Alesis is a far behind second IMHO. The biggest drawback to E-Drums has "Always" been the Cymbals and Feel of the kit. Always! People keep harping and looking for "Real Acoustic" sound on a E-Drum. Let's put this in Perspective. Phil Smith! You hit the nail on the Head!! "That's why I came to conclusion that drum recording would not be in audio anymore, because it requires good room sound proofing and treatment, it requires a lot of gear if we want diversity, from snares, hi-hats, cymbals, to mics, preamps,.. and in the end, it's still quite limited in comparison to all options we have in digital now." When recording and Playing "Live" People don't want to hear "Acoustic" sound. They want to hear a clean Isolated Sound loaded with "Compression, Gate and Effects" with controlled volume. Which is exactly what you get with an E-drum kit. Perfect for Home studio and Small Live Venue's. People Bitch about how much Roland Costs. Is it over priced? Yes! "You walk a little funny after the purchase But the quality, durability and Feel and versatility is there. The Snare and Ride Tracking on the TD-50 is UnFriggen Believable With the digital usb interface with no latency. Even at 7 Grand for the Flagship. to get the "Sound" on recording and live It's far less $$ expensive $$ than the cost of Mic's, Mixers, and outboard gear not to mention the acoustics of a room. Also a difference in a 32 channel Mixer vs a 8 or 16. Drums Eat Channels! It's just the way it is. Alesis Srike Pro! Damn this Looks and sounds good! Especially at this price point. If you are tinkering or wanting to practice or just play small live venues.. What do you have to loose? Get one! For pro/circuit touring and recording folks, you have a little more room for selection as you should. Quality, durability sill remain to be seen on the pads because it's so new. Just My Opinion based on experience.

Seems like the sounds are more dry and focuses than other brands. Over the last decade companies have been sampling wet sounds without much muffling if any at all. These Alesis sounds seem to be geared more toward the player who likes dryer sounds.

Jon Norris you can add effects in the Strike Editor software (not on module) but I haven’t experimented much with it because I make a dry kit then use the recording software to add effects later or let the sound man add their own.

Bill Perri sorry for long post but I've been playing electronic for over a decade now (mainly Roland TD20, TD9 and once with TD11 in performance) because venues I've played in are not suitable for acoustic kits. I have a Mapex Armory seven piece but unfortunately no venue to use it right now which is terrible because I really want to perform on it however I need three more drums and ten more cymbals to finish up my sound. I'm not a speed metal drummer but I like a variety of sounds for various projects from praise, jazz, symphony to metal. Electric kits help to an extent especially in venues that a acoustic kit would drown everything out. Roland is still reliable and depending on what you want or need will help with the purchase. I tell people if your unsure of Alesis then stay with Roland or Yamaha. I am happy with my Alesis Strike since the third firmware update and I can use Roland gear on it but Pearl Mimic is a beast with a few shortcomings. Pearl Mimic works with Alesis Strike (Alesis snare and bass pads are excellent with it) but better with Roland pads. Roland and Yamaha is still excellent but it will take to long for me to explain why I'm not a die hard fan any more. I don't hate them just upset they haven't improved certain things. Today I just played a Roland TD25 and Yamaha DTX500 and had mixed reactions compared to my Alesis Strike and Pearl Mimic. I feel Yamaha receives a bad rap and Alesis still has shortcomings as well but the Roland TD25 is very frustrating for me to explain. The TD50 I'm happy and very disappointed with. But my opinion is if your unsure stay with Roland or Yamaha. If your fine with some risk go for Alesis because it is a learning curve. Customer service is good from Alesis and I've only had one serious issue now fixed. If you have money Pearl Mimic is the way to go. If buying a low cost kit for practice and fun any of the three will do. Probably Roland low end is still better but I've heard alot of good with Alesis low end. I wish I had the opportunity to perform on ATV drums/cymbals kit and Drum Tec gear because they look great but money is scarce for me. I don't know your budget but from your comment electronic may be best. If small room/apartment I definitely recommend a small kit like Roland TD11, Yamaha DTX500 or Alesis Forge/Crimson kit. But it is best to play it and decide yourself. I was blessed to be given my Strike kit by a friend and he also bought the Pearl Mimic for our church and it is amazing. I wish people had the opportunity to test all kits in one location like Drum Tec. Drum Tec was smart for building that business. Thanks Drum Tec.

Wow! Great demo! one of the best I've seen from this kit. Thank you for uploading.When you really pay attention, it's the talent that makes it sound good - not the kit. You may have the most elaborate kit money can buy. But if you're a crappy player with an egoistic wallet, then you'll sound terrible regardless of what kit you use. Just look at street performers that use plastic pails and tumblers. They sound awesome!

Seriously not even 5 seconds of how loud or soft the drums sound in real life during an unboxing/setup/play? A lot of people are looking to get a great set they can play with less noise and there is only one guy in all of youtube that shows how loud they sound in person.
@drumtecTV
@drumtecTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, apart from the fact that I would never suggest to buy any product just based on demo videos on KZbin, noise as such will always be subjective & only helpful in direct comparison with other sounds that give the listener an adequate context. The Alesis mesh pads are considerably louder than any Roland or drum-tec pad. You should nonetheless test a kit for yourself in any case before buying, not only because of the physical sound of the pads, but more importantly to get a feeling for the triggering & playability of the pads & module. Kind regards

Thank you very much! Tim Root is Strike Pro´s "daddy" so to say. He knows everything about the kit & it´s technical details. He´s a very nice guy, I met him at the Musikmesse Frankfurt. So yes, he´s not Dave Weckl in terms of drumming but he knows his job very well! :)

HA I Agree! It would have been in Alesis's best interest if Tim would stick to the technical side of the presentations and leave the Playing Demonstration to real Players such as yourself. Because in marketing terms it's a real turn off. It basically says " This is a great kit for people who think Charlie Watts is a Drum Monster Vs a Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio or Mark Protnoy." in marketing terms. I was about to toss this kit into the "Not even close" in terms of competition with TD-30/50 and Pearl Mimic until I saw this video. Excellent Job DrumtecTV! Hat's off to you. because now I am more seriously considering this kit.

Hey Eddie, the rug/mat used in this video was this one from Roland: www.drum-tec.com/roland-tdm-20 The Strike Zone kit is considerably smaller than the Strike Pro from the video, it´s rack side arms are shorter as it doesn´t have the 4th tom and the 2 extra crashes. You can also use the measurements of our drum-tec sound absorbing mat over here (which is big enough for any electronic drum kit): www.drum-tec.com/drum-tec-silence-mat-big-1400-x-1800-x-6-mm

@robertlucas9867

Phil Smith I had the pleasure to experiment with my friends kit since he is renovating his place. They are built nice out of wood but the shells are free floating and you don't want to change the mesh heads unless on a table or the bottom falls out. They use columns of foam unlike Roland that attach to a clear plastic plate where the piezo's are attached to.
@Spidouz
@Spidouz 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert for the feedback. How would you say the "touch feel" is? Close enough of a real acoustic one? I'm asking because I only two extremes that I know are the first Roland PD-11/31 (triangle shape pads) which was very hard and not really smooth at all, and then the last Roland mesh pads I tried during a trade show (it was the TD-30 kit I think)... And since, I haven't mess too much with e-drums (I don't play drums as my main instrument, I have a really bad back now). But I'd love to build a new studio, and of course, I'd love to find a good e-drums solution. Obviously a Roland TD-50 full kit from drum-tec seems to be the "perfection", but since it wouldn't be my main instrument (but only for the few times real drummers would record), it seems kind of overkill to spend 8 grand. I think it's absolutely not overkill if you're a drummer and it's your main instrument you use everyday, but this is not my case. So I'm trying to see if there's no cheaper alternative that would still be close enough in term of "touch". Regarding sounds, I don't care since I have what I need with software libraries. So I technically only need a good "midi controller for drummer". Any feedback is welcome ;)
@robertlucas9867
@robertlucas9867 7 жыл бұрын
Phil Smith that is tough to answer. Mesh heads don't feel like acoustic. The Roland modules has better triggering than Alesis still. I plugged a Roland TD20 and TD30 into the Alesis Strike Pro Kit and it triggers fine but it responds better. I think best to wait for it to be on display and try it yourself before purchasing.

If it is just for studio and your using it rarely thru a computer then the lower Roland kits with mesh will do the trick to and feel the same but just have smaller pads. Just a thought. Try them out at the store.
@Spidouz
@Spidouz 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks again Robert. That's what I thought... Well, I think it's gonna be better to just try them in store. I will definitely keep an eye on the Alesis. One sure thing, after building 5 high-end recording studio, testing all kind of gear from large analog SSL console, to neve preamp, neumann mics and such, I think technologies are good now for me to build my own studio by using digital and electronic gear. I know it might sound controversial for some people out there (the self-called "purist"), but I've done many many MANY tests for sounds, gear comparisons, ABX blind test to find out the sound quality on a record, etc... and I reached to conclusion that digital stuff is just as good, if not better than acoustic. Regardless if it's for keyboards, synth, mixing gear, guitar amps, effects, or even drums. In my previous studio, we were using triggers on any acoustic drum set, with Superior Drummer (we had the whole library collection) as well as BFD, Native, and many Kontakt drum libraries. And 7 times out of 10, we were using midi info to trigger samples... and 2 times out of 10, we were using audio replacement plugin to replace drum audio tracks by samples, and only 1 time out of 10 we were keeping the original sound because it was "good enough". And it was for commercial projects, even some that were for groups and artists being diffused on TV and Radio, not just some unknown local band with no fans (if it's even a criteria anymore). That's why I came to conclusion that drum recording would not be in audio anymore, because it requires good room sound proofing and treatment, it requires a lot of gear if we want diversity, from snares, hi-hats, cymbals, to mics, preamps,.. and in the end, it's still quite limited in comparison to all options we have in digital now. So, the choice was easy, I wouldn't use acoustic, I would use digital sample libraries with triggers in some kind... and naturally, I came to conclusion that it would make more sense to just go the e-drums path form the beginning. And since I will use digital amps (Kemper, Axe, Helix and such), and I'm using keyboards, etc... the whole studio construction is getting way easier and simpler because I don't need any heavy construction or sound proofing anymore. It could be very manageable since audio will be mainly for vocals. That's why I started this quest to find a good "midi controller for drummers". The only limitation now is about the "feel". For all other instruments, I found a way and now I'm looking for e-drums. Obviously, I found some solution such a high-end Roland TD-50k by drum-tec... and if there's absolutely no other solution, then drum-tec TD-50 it will be; Because in the end, it will still be cheaper than the recording the "acoustic way". Now I'm just trying to seek for cheaper solutions, just in case! So thanks a lot for your feedback on this Alesis. Since drums are not my first priority, I think I'm gonna wait until it's time to buy it, and then go to store to test them. It looks like a lot of improvements are done in pads and triggers lately, and price will slowly drop with more competition. So wait & see :) Cheers!

The sound Drum Tec played are factory. But you can make your own custom kits dry unless you download the free Strike Software and then you can add effects to them but having dry kits allow recording flexibility to add effects later in mix or for live settings the sound engineer can add effects to fit the music better. I turn off my Roland effects because they sound horrible with the band and makes it hard for the Sound engineer to mix it but dry he can mix it to sit in the mix right. My past kit on Roland was a Studio kit or Maple kit but the ambience didn’t match the venues so I turn them off so the sound man can mix it to the venue sound. I do the same with a Alesis.

I've heard the kits on the module...the sounds aren't good in any of the kits, especially the toms and cymbals. They don't have actual samples from DW, Yamaha, and Gretch like you said, they just try and make some kits sound like those kits. The cymbals in particular sound terrible in all of the Strike kits. Looks like Alesis is still behind Roland
@robertlucas9867
@robertlucas9867 7 жыл бұрын
Keith Russell different opinions. I have Yamaha Oak Toms dialed up and Paiste cymbals as a kit and they sound alot like the ones I used to play. Being digital they will not pick up every detail but they are real samples. Other sounds I agree are fake. Unfortunately you are stuck with their samples like the DW Basses are real but they didn't give a variety of sounds I like. No satisfying deep punchy one. The software they said will come out will allow you to make samples of your own sounds.

When I read a review like yours, I am absolutely confident that the writer has absolutely no idea what he is talking about: either (1) he's a Roland fanboy; (2) he's an acoustic diehard who doesn't think any "real" drummer plays electronic drums (as to which he's just a dumbass); or (3) he has no clue what the difference is between drums through music store headphones vs. a PA when the rest of the band is playing. These are uncompressed, full length, 16-bit samples of actual acoustic drums and cymbals. In other words, exactly what you hear on a CD with a well-recorded acoustic kit. Actually better, because the kit on the CD will have been effected and compressed, and with the Strike you can choose whether to effect or compress things. If you don't like the sound of the Gretsch Brooklyn kit or the A-Custom 14" crash in the Strike, then you don't like the sound of the Gretsch Brooklyn kit or the A-Custom 14" crash in real life either. And that's fine, but that's all about your ears and personal preferences--it has nothing to do with the module. In fact, the Strike is probably the best deal/dollar for value for the working drummer in electronic drums on the market right now.
