Form a 30 year veteran mechanic, FWIW: tool boards, if you're not in a commercial workshop (and want to show off your tool bling, which is a bit phallic anyway), are a rubbish idea. Things fall off them (onto your bike, your head and hands), moisture lands on the tools and rusts them, and people can see them to steal. Well-insulated and weatherised (lockable) tool drawers are a much better idea, and much easier to organise, and re-organise when the inventory changes (and don't look so sad when your broken/stolen tools leave gaps or look crap). Also, whilst Park Tool make the best bike-specific tools on the planet (apart from maybe Pedros), you are being seriously ripped off if you buy their general purpose tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, spanners, sockets (except for specific ones), knives, scissors . . . . Park get them made in a big Taiwanese factory, like everyone else (except most German & a few US brands). Find a good local brand that car mechanics buy and get those. Teng Tool, Kincrome, Sidchrome are brands local to me that cost less and are the same or better quality than what Park puts their name on. Then you've got more $ for the bike-specific tools that they make, such as presses, truing stands, work stands . . .

This is a very interesting comment and as an apprentice I was told to never buy chrome spanners as they are the first ones to get stolen.

great pain cave! But I must point out one glaring issue The muc-off shelf with all their liquid products is located just above a tv. There is a reason why most industrial companies store their chemicals and liquids on the bottom shelf and not above anything of value. In case of spillage, you would probably damage your TV as the vents are likely on top of the TV and it would be able to leak directly into the electronics of said TV. I would seriously consider relocating the shelf or the TV. Otherwise, great pain cave as said before.

You wanted comments on what people think you should add next to your cave, I would say get a sofa. You might have a friend around when you're fixing your bike or you might need to sit down after a hard session on the turbo, or many other reasons why someone might need to sit down. So I would definitely get a sofa and make sure it's located within an arms length of the fridge that is holding all your drinks.

Nice build! But I do not advise mounting wood directly to the wall. That’s dangerous for mold buildup. You especially don’t want that in a room where you will breath heavy often -> when working out
@dayjn
@dayjn 3 жыл бұрын
It might not be an issue if the garage is reasonably ventilated. I do similar in my shed which is built similar and have no issues. The doors open, and there are some gaps around doors and fresh air circulates and keeps the moisture levels down. It would be an issue if the room was tightly sealed up. Would be nice to hear how well ventilated the garage is perhaps in a future video. Also any plans for heating and or aircon. My shed is way too hot in summertime for turbo sessions. Perfect over winter though.

it might need a bit more skills than a DIY, but it would be really cool/useful to have an area near the garage door with an incline + drain to allow for cleaning the bikes indoors when it's freezing outside (the rubber floor tiles there would need to be replaced with something non-porous). A little hose there would make sense. PS. It's not like that space is wasted when weather is nice, it can still be used for anything and the hose would allow washing outside... but it's also there when it's cold.

When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
