One of my best friends died of an overdose about 6 months ago. I discovered this song and video right after he died and started watching it constantly and started thinking of the black dog as my friend. I was helping my friends brother move my friends stuff out of his apartment, and I ended up looking through my friends sketchbook and found a drawing of a dog that looks a lot like the black dog. I ended up getting it tattooed on my arm.

I know this song is supposed to be about the loss of someone you love, but it hit me in a similar spot. I was bullied throughout my school years up until I reached high school and I only had one friend who I had met in 3rd grade. He had been my only friend and I was his only friend as we were the “nerds” who were outcasted and bullied by everyone. We had such a deep connection and he was more similar to me than anyone else I’ve ever met. In 6th grade, he told me he would be moving to another state over the summer. I had a learning disability and my mind was also quite innocent and I was a very imaginative kid, I had not experienced much reality in my life yet. I was not able to fully understand what this would mean. I had not had any contact with him as I had just recently gotten my first mobile device and I had no social media or friends to share contact with, nor did I even understand how that worked. Over the summer I started learning new things and it was a huge growth period for my mind and mental state, probably the biggest change in my own self I’ve ever experienced. I was so excited to share this with him when I got back. I remember I came into school so excited to share everything with him, to share my new experiences and growth. But he was not in his usual spot. After a little bit, it dawned on me. I remembered her told me he would be moving. Only at that point did I fully understand what that meant, that he would not be there anymore and I had no contact with him. This started my years of depression and anxiety which I am still currently facing. I am an older and much stronger Mentally and physically person now, although not emotionally, still whenever I hear this song I can’t help but to burst into tears as it forces me into my memories about him and how he left. How I wish he would come back, how I wasn’t ready for him to go. He was my only true friend and it struck me like a hammer. I love this song. It embodies everything I feel into the minute and a half that he’s singing. It’s beautiful. Alex g is truly one of the most underrated musicians out there. Thank you for this song, it has helped me through a lot.

No one will read this but this song pretty much dragged me through my senior year of high school. Moved eight hours away from my home to finish school and shortly after I met my twin flame, Lucas. We were never in any type of romantic relationship, but our minds and our emotions were mirrored by each other on a cosmic level. His last name is Bright (bright boy) and I will always hear this song and feel his soul sitting with me. And that’s what makes this video so perfect for me. I just moved away and I’m experiencing the eerie yet comfortable sensation of knowing that someone who can’t be with you in the flesh can still be felt and seen and talked to in your head. Coping with loss has been very difficult for me. I love that the end of this video implies that even though they’re gone they’re always with you and they’ll always be apart of you. I recently found this song a couple of weeks before this comment and have been listening to it near constantly. There was a girl I was talking to online across the country, and we had talked nearly every day for four years. We never dated, but I did love her, even if she never loved me back. I helped her out with her depression and anxiety issues and I didn't do it to get her to love me, I just helped because I cared about her. About 6 months ago I'm trying to help her out with her feelings for someone she likes closer to home, and suddenly she gets very mad and blocked me for seemingly no reason. I have not heard from her since, but my heart still longs for her, even if there are other people I fall in love with. This song reminds me of her, and my feelings for her. Since other people took the chance to vent I’d like to as well, when I first started listening to the song it was with my ex a while back, we were recovering from an acid high so he was nuzzled in my arms, song came on n we both never heard it before. I loved the song n he seemed to like it too but half way through he started crying? I didn’t know at the time so I just held him closer to me, it wasn’t unusual for him to cry as he was kinda sad at times. Down the line I found out it reminded him of the person he was cheating on me with and he started to cry. The Alone should make me hate it but I actually really love the song, I did lose someone I loved tho only because they were unfaithful. I listen to this from time to time when I start to feel weak n sad about the whole situation, as a reminder that they betrayed me n I have to move on. Thank you for this song.
