He is certainly one of the greatest guitarists in rock generally. But his two bandmates included quite possibly the greatest drummer in all of rock history (as well as a noted lyricist), and one of the greatest bassists in all of rock (in addition to a reasonably good singer and a good keyboardist).

My band did our last record with their producer, David Leonard. Rush had just finished recording Vapor Trails and still had their gear in the studio. David said the entire time the band was recording there Geddy and Alex spoke in a Hogan's Heroes type German accent. He said they wouldn't break character even when they took a break and went to lunch.

Saw them on a Sunday night in January 79, ran into them coming out of the mid-south colluseum, Memphis TN. They were getting on their bus. They waved hollered, we freaked, waved and hollered back, that's all we talked about for a week. Ahh, the good ole days.

Way more than 30 years my friend. Sadly though - this year Rush is officially done touring and quite possibly done creating any more music together. Everything comes to an end but we have their amazing music for the rest of our lives!

Seems like all those years together, it's been Alex's personal mission to get Neil to crack up😂! you can see it in that on the Dvd when they're at the table on the special features, he's constantly trying to get Neil to laugh! because I'm sure he is usual pretty focused and serious and Alex certainly isn't!

I recorded their New Orleans show on the Hold Your Fire tour and during 'Temples of Syrinx' Alex kinda went bonkers. When Geddy sang "the gifts of life..." Alex blurted out "ARE FREE!" then Geddy sang "...are held within these walls" Alex replied "oh yeah, that's it". Love those guys. Great musicians with great senses of humor. They opened that showed with the Three Stooges Theme including "Helloooo, hellooo, hellooo - HELLO".

My first show in 02, Alex rapped "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" during La Villa. Haven't been able to find a recording of it, & it was half over before I figured out what was going on... For the 5 shows after that, I learned to pay attention to him when he wasn't playing.

@tacomadc I know you mean well , and you're simply saying that Alex is 'also' a funny guy. But I must disagree with "He missed his calling". He's the lead guitar player for one of the most popular - unyielding - deeply talented rock bands in the history of music. Playing music together longer than some musicians are even alive on the planet. I'd say he pretty much hit his 'calling' right between the eyes! And I think we are all better people for getting to watch that happen.
