I still say that he's alive, Kravchenko warned Woods, Mason and Hudson about moles in the CIA in Afghanistan which Hudson said bullshit, Mason finding a CIA memo in the drug lab in Time and Fate. Plus, when you look through the scope of the M82A1 in Suffer with Me, the "Nexus Target" aka Mason is still wearing his Woodland Camo pants and boots and the words Kravchenko will be repeated again, Woods isn't stupid but he would know that Mason was captured and was ordered to be killed, so Woods would deliberately injured his best friend and have Mason pretend to be dead.

Its also the entire leadup to Mason's "death" that also adds to this. The entire time, Woods and Mason were being kept in the dark by Hudson and they called it as they saw it happening as fishy and they "didn't like it" but continued on with the mission. They BOTH knew something was up, and that was only solidified after the objective with Noriega was changed last second. There is absolutely NO WAY that Woods didn't know that that wasn't Menendez. He didn't know it was Mason, but he knew something was up.

Cold war is before panama, panama happens after cold war, hence why Hudson comes and asks Mason to rescue woods. I believe he is alive and watching over everyone, like Adler, Marshall, Sev, Felix and the most important of all, woods. What if before the panama invasion Alex knew something that he couldn't say outright because then there would be some major deaths or something. What if he knew what pantheon was?, what if he knows the mole and is secretly trying to take down the mole without the team noticing?. I believe the next game, the sequel to Bo2 will answer a lot of questions.

@@tophergames0224 we know Pantheon helped Menendez in Panama because Hudson was getting too close to finding out who were their moles in the CIA (Hudson had deep connections of his own, so much the Intel files of BO1 mention to keep Operation Charybdis (the cancelled mission to kill him, Mason and Weaver) 'off-the-grid' due to that); So they helped Menendez, and tossed Woods and Mason together with Hudson as "necessary collateral" to get what they really wanted.

What i don't understand is why no one is talking about the playable characters like bell and case. And what i mean is what happened to knowing your character or at least getting to like them through voice lines. These campaigns feel like how the original call of duty games felt where all you have is a name. No cutscenes, no dialog and in bells case you did have "dialog" but you don't even hear him speak. Bo1 mason was a huge part of the cutscenes and everything. Bo2 woods and David, same thing. Even that one mission as farid he talks in game. I miss that aspect of connecting with characters

Another thing that can make this theory true is the fact that next year is black ops 7 which will be a sequel to black ops 2 and we probably will play again as David mason working for the military again. So that means if David retired then what’s the point of a black ops 7. So if david mason isn’t retired in bo7 that means Alex is alive
