Judge Clifton Newman placed Alex Murdaugh’s fate into the jury’s hands after reading jury instructions Thursday afternoon. The disgraced South Carolina lawyer faces up to life in prison if convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, in June 2021.

As a court reporter I have been mesmerized by this trial. What an honor it would be to work with a judge like this! He is absolutely amazing in every way that is needed to facilitate such a horrendous hearing. My prayers are with him

@@jillhopper5614 He is reading very deliberately. Which makes sense. If he messes up and reads anything wrong there is a good chance of mistrial because incorrectly charging the jury is a big deal for the defendants rights.

Yes, I’ve admired him throughout this. I had to teach after my son died. I only got 4 bereavement days. It was so hard to focus. I really had a hard time with my executive memory. He’s done amazingly well.

He either did it or he was there. I’ve wondered … was it a hit? He has been paying a lot of money to someone! He stole millions from some people who were probably enraged! Jealous woman… someone who was a BAD shot!? So many nagging questions with no real motive, unless they flushed his stash! He may have been in withdrawal and enraged!

This Judge has been a gem. He has been fair to all parties, calm throughout this case, and honorable. He himself had to sit through a trial with a man accused of killing his son when he himself just lost his son this year. I commend him.

As a widow I find it very odd that Alex doesn't remember one thing his wife or son said at dinner or at the kennels. You remember and treasure those last moments with your loved ones.

You’re obviously speaking as a person who has never partaken in some of the drugs Alex has been fueled by for a certain number of years. Memory becomes very difficult on stimulant drugs and yes, Alex was on stimulant drugs.

15:47 Glad the judge explained intentional and malice - it is the intentional doing of an act with an intent to inflict an injury so he should be guilty of malicious and intentional murder. This gentleman has the perfect temperament to be a judge. Really a class act.

It's never easy making a circumstantial case so I'm not super confident. All the defense had to do was make it seem possible it could have been someone else. I don't think they did that but that's all it takes.

If he didn't kill them, why isn't he begging for someone to find the killers? He was there at the time of the murders, his clothes disappeared, he's driving 80 mph to get to where his mom is, he tries to convince and bribe his moms caregiver to say that he was there longer, the list goes on and on. This man who creates chaos everywhere he goes is guilty. Ro Ro is a No No...GUILTY.

He’s worked with the law a lot of years. He knows it would be pointless. The entire family knew Paul had it coming, they never dreamed Maggie would also become a casualty of this war. You would have to live in this town to understand. These guys take the law into their own hands. Someone from Mallory’s side came for “justice”

Did he ever explain why he took a shower and discarded his clothes while a killer, who MINUTES before, murdered his wife and son roams around his property?

He didn't take a shower in the house, he used the hose at the murder scened so he wouldn't drip blood on the way back or into the house plumbing. And why the bodies were soaking wet when the PD showed up. And the hose was still on.

Alex has throughout his life been able to talk his way into and out of everything. I really think he never imagined being charged for the murders. He felt insulated by his relationships with LE/SLED, he called many people to muddy the immediate area right after the murders and assumed his ability to perform his distress ably enough to clear any suspicion. The entire family is corrupt.

Alex also was seen on initial LE bodycam stomping all over the area, walking back and forth between Paul and Maggie. Even standing were his attys. said the killer would have been. I was surprised that Prosecutors didn’t show that w/ a side by side pic.

I know the odds of that happening are next to nil but it ain’t about the money. It’s more about having fun at my work. I’m gonna say it’s more about I told ya so at her office. You’re assuming. And expect the jurors to agree. I’m not a fan of AM, but just if the same happened to anyone else, I’d want the jurors weighing only the evidence presented, and find him guilty if there’s no reasonable doubt. Jurors’ prejudice must not influence the finding.

Alex lied so much that finally his lies caught up to him. Throughout the trial he seemed to be ready to break. I kept thinking he was going to spit out "yes, I did it!". He will end up confessing in jail. There is no way he will not be found guilty. His wife and son deserve justice.

I couldn’t believe that AM dared to lie, UNDER OATH, to the jury regarding getting permission to put blue lights on his car. And the sheriff who supposedly gave his permission testified that he never even heard about AM putting blue lights on his car. WTF?? The fact that he STILL lies while he’s on the stand and under oath tells me he is a pathological liar who will lie anywhere, anytime, to anyone about anything and everything.

Yep even if they can’t put the guns in his hands, the weight of circumstantial evidence points to him being 100% responsible for their deaths. He bought death to their door by all his actions over the years.

The Defense proved his guilt by bringing up the timeline at 9:06, saying he couldn’t have thrown the phone out at 9:08! What a slip-up. Why would you say that out loud to a jury?

He never implored the court to find killers. Never any anger or rage that the real killers were out there. No anger shown he was angry at his arrest.

Wonderful judge. The jury came to a fair verdict, given the sum of all of the evidence. I feel very badly for Buster, who has now lost everyone from his immediate to this horrifying crime. 😢

Just ask yourself one question - why has AM not begged / demanded anybody to go and find the killer(s)? That alone (not counting all the details of the trial I’ve heard from the beginning) tells me all I need to know.

Why hasn't ANYONE else? His son Buster, his brother, Maggie's family... Usually in a case like this, the family is campaigning for justice/answers. I would imagine a family of this stature would offer a tremendous reward. They must all know the truth.

His actions and lies were that of a guilty man. An innocent person would have acted completely different. He continued to lie on the stand under oath about the blue lights while looking at the jury. He didn't skip a beat.

No matter the mistakes Sled may have made, Alex already had plans to contaminate the crime scene. Common sense will win out with this jury.

Even if it does with this jury, sled handed him an appeal and endless litigation to have this verdict thrown out. They embarrassed themselves over and over and really marred what should have been very convincing arguments.

The jury doesn't rely on common sense to make their verdict. They only consider the evidence presented. Most of the evidence against him was about financial crime. There really isn't any physical evidence connecting him to the murders. 🤷‍♂️

I hope the jury looks at evidence and how he lied about being there. A revenge killer as they say- was going after the family- they would of killed all of them including Alex and buster. There was no other killer other than Alex himself. Can’t remember critical events but remember only what he chooses.

This judge is exactly a copy of my busdriver ( public transportation) he retired...but omg exact....let me tell u...I was downtown waiting to go home, all the busses were coming. I was daydreaming. He started beeping the horn...and I looked up...he's like cmon. With his hand motion......haha....and then it was his bday one day. I had scratch off lottery tickets in my hand . He said someone's gonna be happy. I said ya..you happy bday....he stopped the bus and hugged me! I only knew him about 2 weeks but loved him....and we talked the whole time..we were both virgo so....:) just so reminds of the judge...looks exactly like him and his demeanor:) thnx for reading...I miss him...soooo off topic lol

He thought i was being a jerk....He was annoyed....but then realized I seriously didn't know:) and we clicked. Guy remembers everything except what he was doing during the key moments around both their deaths and while four for minutes he's running a sprint. Guy also admits that, for years, he lied about all his financial fraud but wants people to believe him when he says he's telling the truth about not killing his family. Hopefully this jury isn't full of clowns who can't see all of this.
