David Owen wasn't recognized for his work. He never tried to take sides didn't get involved emotionally, David Owen is the best detective i have seen in 30 years. I hope law enforcement can learn from David. Be respectful, truthful, honorable and work hard. Wish i could meet the guy and thank him for his outstanding service.

As a summary: 1. Alex asked her wife and son to come to Moselle (both were not planning to go there that day). He asked Maggie to come so they could go visit his father. 2. He leaves the house to go see his mother WITHOUT his wife and it was later known that his father was hospitalized, so Alex requesr didn't make any sense. 3. He said he never step foot on the kennels, but everybody confirmed to hearing his voice in the video that is minutes away from the murder. 4. When the police comes, the first thing he says is "Listen, this is very simple, my son was on a boat accident 2 years ago ...". Why he felt he needed to give that information so right away? Seemed he wanted to explain the motive. Weird thing to do from a grieving father and husband. 5. During police questioning, he never shows anger for what has happened or demanded justice. He seemed to be Ok with the outcome. 6. In that same line, he never demanded police to find the murderer. 7. The scene was bloody, and he was spotless. Which normal person that sees their family members like this, dont come close to touch them and see if there's any pulse or just to cry next to them. It's guilty to me.

Exactly! I completely agree with you. And…Speaking from the side of someone who has lost a family member in an incredibly traumatic way, a wrongful death…..all you want to do is find out who did this and what happened. Think about it… this is the most powerful family in that area, who gets away with everything… and has so many people connected to them….how in the hell would Alex not be on a complete tear, trying to find out who killed his wife and son, and WHY…rather than suggesting a motivation or potential responsible party? The answer is simple - he knew who did it and was not concerned with who, how, or why. Guilty… and again as someone who had to sit through a trial… god that was painful for our family. I can imagine it must be VERY painful for him to listen to and see all this because he has to face what he has done. And he deserves it.

@@MarieAntoinetteandherlittlesis - I listened to a podcast with Eric Bland on, I believe he’s the attorney for the Sattersfield sons. Bland thinks it’s possible some money was hidden in the Bahamas, but also possible money could literally be buried on the hunting property somewhere. Large amounts of stolen funds in the form of cash is a weird burden. If you deposit it into a bank, red flags go up. Was it normal income? A gift? Income means taxes must be paid on it. Can’t recall what Bland said about a new owner of the hunting property being able to keep it if they found millions in cash on the property. I’m having doubts there is money stashed anywhere. Alex was in such a financial jam, wouldn’t he have used it to pay people back and just claim ‘accounting errors’ rather than killing his wife/son?

The tents prevent prying eyes, keeps ppl away from the crime scene who shouldn't be there, protects the scene from the elements like rain, snow, sleet, and dust from blowing in.

It seemed strange the crime scene nor the house wasn't secured for any length of time. The next day Alec's brother and one of the partners each testified they were at the kennels cleaning up the area. Additionally, Alec's former law partner testified upon going into the feed room he found a piece of Paul's skull still on the floor.

It isn’t law enforcement’s or medical personnel’s responsibility to clean up a crime scene, including body fluids and parts after an investigation is concluded. Basically any evidentiary materials and victims are what is secured.

When you have a whole town know you and you're family, and are best friends with the law, have money and power, you assume you'll have help in covering, or rely on purposeful neglect from the law. He thought they'd believe me, because of who I am, didn't much care about the phone records, onstar location, and other evidence. When boat incident happened law enforcement allowed them to walk near the scene and remove the boat themselves. Walked in the hospital to intimidate the witnesses. Steal millions of dollars from people, I mean of course he thought he'd get away with it. Imagine how many towns are run by families like this.

I'm irritated by all the negative comments regarding SLED. While it is true there were some mistakes made, these are humans working a complex scene in real time, many awakened in the middle of the night with little sleep. Defense lawyers had months and and months and outside experts assistance to review and nitpick every step the SLED agents made and they did so while making hundreds of dollars per hour. Give SLED that opportunity and perhaps perfection could be achieved. Just remember who responds when you dial 911. It will not be Poot or the Hog Wrestler and their entourage!

The entire location should have been void of anyone but agents... Plus they should have looked around with drones and flashlights for tire tracks or any evidence of someone having been off to the side of the property hanging around waiting for opportunity to go in there a kill them... The entire property should have been closed as a crime scene the moment sled arrived. They should never have allowed any non-investigative staff on scene whatsoever. Instead they allowed the suspect and his friends and family to wander the entire property. Sled should have done deep forensics in the house as well as kennel area.

Well intentioned but still very unhelpful. I think when police kindly but firmly had sent them home (all but the brother and one close friend, and of course Buster) the lawyers and their spouses would have been secretely relieved.

That was deliberate. Alex had thought it through and utterly manipulated the police by having all those people show up. He got all those people over to the house to create that confusion and chaos and to contaminate the crime scene--while the police were trying to work with the evidence and do their jobs. He also put pressure on the police indicating how powerful he was, with all the people coming out in the middle of the night to support him. I think he washed up with the hose first. Brain matter & blood. Kennel guy said it should have been dry. Took a shower. Drove the evidence to his Moms house. Called his brother & his brother took it away from mothers.( He called his Brother 1sr before the Police. He told the caregiver his visit to Moms was 40 minutes but she said "you were only here 15 minutes, 20 minutes tops. Told caregiver he would pay for her wedding (weird). Went back home to Moselle and THEN CALLED THE COPS. It gave him 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to pull this off. When the Cops came he was carrying his shotgun. That was a way to throw them off on gunshot residue, My theory!

Okay so what does everybody think about the testimony of the detective when he is discussing Paul's phone and its location when they arrived on the scene. So here is what we know, there is a specific part of the timeline that discusses Paul's video and conversation with his friend regarding his dog tail. Then the conversation stopped. Was it possible that Paul was ambushed when he was on the phone texting? And he dropped the phone when he was shot? And Alex does say in an interview that he was the one who picked up Paul's phone and put it back in his pocket.

They work from a tiny county in South Carolina. i looked up the murder rates and they've had 3 murders (not including these) since 2006. They're not used to prosecuting this level of crime whereas the same is Harpootlian's specialty. it will be interesting to see how the defense presentation goes (if prosecution ever finishes).

Utterly childish but very illustrative of how myopic the culture is in areas like the low country of South Carolina.
