Of course Maggie did not deserve to be killed but from the Netflix documentary she was as ruthless as Alex in trying to protect Paul from being held accountable for killing Mallory Beach in the boat accident. Nor did she want that poor girl’s body to be found. No body; no crime. Maggie also was involved in helping Paul cover up wrecking his pick-up while drunk with his girlfriend. Maggie also promoted Paul’s underage drinking. She did not deserve to be killed but she was not a “special” caring lady. She seems to have also felt entitled to protect her family at all costs and regular people were disposable.

Alex wasnt worried about finding a killer or killers, as he already knew there was not one, other than himself. He hid behind his grandfather's and father's legal reputations, and power in the community, and believed there would be no consequences for his behavior. He thought he had planned the perfect murders, to get his financial liabilities to disappear. He was manipulating people and events, to make it appear that someone else had done these evil and heinous acts. My heart goes out for the sister. Her emotional pain is palpable and genuine, as she relives the events. Murdaugh's 'tears' are nothing but props for acting. IMHO, he is a despicable murdering sociopath, and he DID think about doing this for a very long time.

@@zx208 Hahaha!! No. But he was being robbed of plants he had growing. He lived in a very small town that hadn't had a murder in 50 years. The way he had been killed had looked like an ambush and well planned out. It had unfortunately rained the morning he had been killed and it washed away the scent of whoever had done it. Later, the years to be exact we found out it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the killer had gone to great lengths to mask his scent. He walked for 2 miles through a creek and then another 2 through the woods. Anyway, between the police and my uncles during the funeral and the weeks after..... there was always some armed around us. My point in telling the story... or some of it.... was that when someone is murdered the fear is so thick that you welcome the added security. And him not wanting to make sure his other son and really himself were safe is very suspicious.

The boys, Paul and Buster, were by many accounts two very spoiled and entitled boys. As well, Buster was tossed from law school after he was caught cheating. Paul immediately blamed someone else in the boat as the driver which was not the case. The video of Paul and his behavior when the police arrived ( night of the boat crash) is truly disgusting and quite telling as to his character. Also Maggie certainly doesn't sound like a compassionate soul in the 911 call regarding their housekeeper after her fall on their property which ended in her death. The girl killed in the boat crash. The son and wife who were brutally murdered. On and on it goes. Detail from the testimony of the paralegal that worked for Alex and was the first to notice (and report) red flags regarding how he handled settlement money. He had _bought a boat with a loan._ Interestingly _some of the stolen money_ that je he redirected to a bank account in the small bank was also _used to pay down that boat loan._ Might have been the boat that Paul steered while drunk and then he killed the girl in 2018. Apart from the drug habit that was the most financially devastating thing for AM. And devastating for the family because of the events it helped to trigger. When her parents hired a lawyer for a civil lawsuit he then tried to write over property to his wife so the parents of the girl could only sue him for less - and Maggie in May or June 2021 refused to hand over the property that legally belonged only to her - he could not use those assets (that he had tried to move out of reach for liability charges) to quickly come up with millions. In May he knew it was only a matter of time before he would be busted, but if he could have come up with several millions he could have repaid the money, fulfilled all obligations toward clients and the lawfirm (he also withheld revenue from them) and maybe the lawfirm would have let him leave quiety w/o exposing him. No scandal, he would have to step down of course - and the clients would have gotten a surprise payment, but I am sure he could have sold them the lucky turn of events. He chose the clients he stole from well, no one had protested that they did not get enough or the believed the story that the lawsuit was not successful. So there was a chance no one would question or protest or suspect foul play when they unexpectedly would get 70k or 200k. Stolen money paid for the boat that cost his family (and the girl) so dearly. On June 7th he murdered wife and son. He (as the owner of the boat, and it either had no insurance or the insurance would not pay because their son was drunk) had a court date for June 10th, on which the judge would rule whether he had to disclose all his assets. This had to do with the private lawsuit of the parents of the dead girl, and I think they sued for 30 million USD. I think they really thought he was filthy rich. Alex had been busy since 2018 or 2019 to try and get as much as possible in Maggies name / written over to her - but that likely motivated him to kill her when the walls closed in on him in the lawfirm (January - May 2021). Shortly before the murder his wife had refused to allow him to sell property - that sale would have provide a few millions real quick. I think he realized that he could not continue to steal from the company, and that the crimes he had comitted so far would be detected soon. The spouses had a discussion / fight not long before the murder over the beachfront property (4 million USD), I very much doubt he had told her WHY he so desperately needed money. But she refused to sell it. She must of course have known about his drug use (for 20 years) - one more reason not to let him have more money - and she likely could not fathom how much he stole. Only a few days before her death she had confronted him because a charity cheque that she had written had bounced. In August 2021 (so 3 months after the murders) he had 4 million debt with the small bank and his chequing account was overdrawn with almost 400,000 USD. Maybe she should have gotten involved in the family's finances or should have added up ALL their spending and compared it to what came in (the legal money - she had no way of knowing that he stole and how much). Only - if she had bothered then she would have been surprised where the money for the boat or other loans of Alex came from (from the account that he had opened for stolen money). AM had opened a private account the "fake Forge account" (that mimicked the account of a legit company & business partner of the lawfirm = Forge Consulting). AM would wait until the paralegal that normally handled the larger settlement cases and the "billing" was not in the house and then order her collegue to finalize the cases and to split the money that had come in. What the client would get, the fee for the lawfirm, all the costs they had paid in advance, and often liens had to be considered (hospital bills, Medicare that had to be reimbursed if a client got a settlement). It was necessary to know such files well to not overlook anything, the ladies were protective of "their" cases - and from time to time a confused collegue would call her when she was not in the company, because she had been orderd by Alex to finish a file in a hurry, and she found the instructions of Alex unusual, could not understand some of the position (no wonder it was fraudulent) - Alex often ordered that shortly before 5 pm and preferably on a Friday when all the other staff and the other partners and financial department had left the company. AM also instruced his staff to write the cheques not to Forge Consulting (a legit company that they used from time to time when they set up trust funds for settlements in form of recurring payments instead of one lump sum) but to "Forge" (in the lawfirm they called that "fake Forge" during their audit because it really was a private account that AM controlled. The name was chosen to dupe accounting deparment when they wrote the cheques. And those cheques issued to fake "Forge" were not sent by mail (to the legit company), he always said he would meet their contact at that company for golf or lunch and would hand it over in person. Drove his staff crazy, AM had a reputation of being sloppy and disorganized, they feared he would lose the cheques. Larger amounts often more than 100,000 USD. Replacing such cheques is possible but it is a hassle.

This defense attorney was a lot more gentle with his questions of Miss Marian (understandably so) than he was with Miss Sherry, Alex's mom's care giver. Who stood strong even after Alex tried to bribe her by mentioning that her wedding could “ be expensive,” He bordered on badgering her with his loud and forceful questioning. Miss Sherry should have been shown the same kindness and respect as Miss Marian as she is an honest and caring woman herself who was also grief stricken. Also, if they had such a "good marriage" as the defense is trying to make the court believe, why was Miss Maggie living in the beach house and not with Alex? The beach house that Alex asked her to leave to come up to his house supposedly because, his ailing father was getting worse. He never does go to see his father and Maggie was murdered soon after.

I use the right arrow to skip ahead in 5 second increments when he's cross-examining, as I don't have the patience to listen to his literally meaningless, pointless noise. It's almost like he's senile, at some points.

'Alex didn't seem afraid.' It is obvious that Marian Proctor believes that Alex more likely than not murdered her sister and nephew. It's subtle, but if you pay close enough attention, you can see the implication of what she said. After Maggie and Paul were murdered, she testified that she was terrified for the safety of Alex and Buster. Then, in September, she no longer was because she found out that Alex had been lying to her and everyone else. Obviously, this wasn't a reference to Alex's alleged opioid addiction because Marian had learned about that long before the murders from her sister. along with the name Maggie had given Paul: 'Little Detective.' As she said, this was in relation to finding Alex's stashes of prescription medication. It also shouldn't refer to learning about the fact that Alex had been stealing money and had been fired from his firm. If you listen to the defence and some trial commentators, Alex's theft could have created any number of enemies...even though no one really knew about them until the day of the murders and that was just two or three people from the firm who had agreed not to move on anything then because of the impending death of Buster Murdaugh the Elder. IF Alex's theft or drug addiction had put his or his son's life in danger over the summer, why would that change once the 'attempted suicide for hire' or ploy for sympathy and delay exploded into consciousness? In other words, if someone else had killed Maggie and Paul, then Marian would still be concerned for the safety of Alex and Buster the Younger regardless of what Alex had done relative to theft of funds or his addiction. Why did finding out that he lied about being shot in the head on the side of the road by an unknown person change Marian's mind concerning Alex and Buster the Younger's safety? Could it be that she realised then that Alex might just be capable of anything, including without limitation murdering his wife and son? All that I am saying is that if he didn't murder his wife and son, the fear for his safety and that of her nephew should have remained regardless of what Alex had done. But, it didn't. It changed on that day. She was no longer afraid for them. Why? Perhaps, because she knew that there was no unknown bogeyman shooting members of her family. Rather, the shots were coming from inside of the house, so to speak. Today has probably been the best so far for the prosecution.

The fact that he said, "The person had been wanting to do it a long time." Odd statement for sure. With conspiracy to commit fraud, 80 ish financial crimes, and now murder, he built an intricate house of cards that would all fall by just 1 card at the bottom falling. It finally fell. I was looking up Mr Randolph to find the cause of death. 1st, no disrespect intended, but his $$ is in probate due to there being a possibility that he received $600k from Satterfield. I think the sister makes a very telling observation when she states she found it odd ( upsetting ) that Alex's focus was on clearing Paul's name in the boat accident and not on finding out who killed them, in fact he never talked about it ( finding the killer or killers). The boat accident had turned out to be what would have been the financial downfall of this family or I should say Alex's direct family. He wanted to clear Paul's name so he couldn't be sued any longer. If anyone wants a lot of information on this family, a lot of pertinent information, go to Murdaugh Murders podcast produced by a investigative reporter by the name of Mandy Matley. Harpootlian despises her and her team.

The sister-in-law doesn’t say anything in her testimony that is beyond a reasonable doubt in a way that could directly lead to Alex’s conviction, but I find her testimony very powerful. She and her parents were so close to Alex, but she certainly has some suspicions now. It must be awful thinking that he might have been the one responsible for her sister and nephew’s deaths.

@The Nation State the continued point of the timing and the fact Alec was identified to the testimony offered by those friends of Paul, for example, is not lost on me,but nor is the evidence we are yet to hear. I hope that in the huge undertaking that the jurors have, is not lost on them,and they do not find premature answers in the presumptions made so early in the case. It may be revealed that the voice , may indeed be Alex, however any sensible person surely cannot differentiate between a voice that was there in person, at a time Alex has testified to numerous times, that he was said to be elsewhere, and the voice being heard and identified as ALEX but from a message or videoplayback that could give reasons to the point of the voice being heard but not in the presence or company of mr Alex murdaugh if he sticks by the times he has attested to , in that point, it would be reasonable to hear and THink Alex was indeed at the kennels , but the evidence may yet show that could not be the case. Now of course, this is merely a suggestion, Of what is yet to be , and may be heard,but it is not unthinkable to have doubt cast on such detail in the manner above.

Her composure giving testimony about her dead sister is remarkable. When you think of yourself in her position you have to wonder if you’d get through it. Maggie’s narcissistic husband is the killer, to be sure. He has faked his way through his testimony, throwing speculation at the wall to see what sticks. He has admitted the dogs were not barking at an intruder in the property and the time line clearly puts him at the scene. I can’t imagine a creep capable of killing his wife and son to distract from his being investigated for his financial crimes. What is it with rich people who think they can get away with anything? He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.
