Thanks guys for such a touching, emotional and compassionate programme. It brought tears to my eyes and made me more determined to fight for our independence. I helped out with Alex's campaign here in Aberdeenshire and met him several times. He was a true gentleman and a very generous man. May he rest in peace. I pray for his wife and family that they are consoled by all the love and affection people are expressing towards such a legend of a man.

I was born 7 days after Alex and like him, benefited from an education system that taught us how to think critically. We must as a matter of urgency ensure that we stop our children being brainwashed and propagandised by the continuing 'long march through the institutions'. The capture of education along with our other public institutions is creating generations who believe theories are facts. This dangerous dumbing down of our popultation is storing up serious problems for the future leadership and functioning of the country. Time to regroup, reflect and strategise based on lessons learned from Alex's wonderful example. We dont have much time before it will be too late.

Watching from Ireland. I see him as our Parnell - a great parliamentarian and leader of his people, a man whose reputation was undermined by his enemies during his lifetime, and a man whose life's work was to force a giant leap in his people's journey towards freedom and independence. Don't underestimate his achievement just because he didn't cross the finish line. None of our greatest heroes in the fight for independence ever crossed the finish line either. We don't commemorate those who crossed the finish line - those who sat in our first independent government, nor those who accepted the keys to Dublin Castle from the British at the hand-over ceremony. Those names have been lost in the mists of time. Instead we commemorate those who stood out as giants of successive generations over the long and tedious journey of our people, giants like Alex. History will be good to him, just as it has been good to those similar heroes in Ireland's journey to freedom. His legacy and reputation are safe in the keeping of future generations because his name will forever be mentioned whenever the story of Scottish independence will be told. Thank you, Alex, for being a rare hero of our times. You will always be greatly admired by so many on this side of the Irish sea. To our Scottish friends: Onward and Upward! Thanks to Alex, you are closer now than you have ever been to the coveted prize. 👍💚☘

It's notable that Alex passed away in a NATO-occupied corner of Serbia. The only country that lost more of its young men in the First World War than Scotland. A brother nation of Scotland.

Incredible how many of you Alba Party types are so comfortable denying the legitimacy of other indepedent nations simply because you're anti-NATO. Frankly, you'll have to accept the fact that an indepedent Scotland will be a Western, EU state and mostly likely a NATO member. The type of indy Scotland you advocate for will never exist.

May he rest in peace. Prayers for all who are grieving his loss, especially his wife and extended family. There will never be another Alex Salmond. Just one of his humorous comments when he was at Glasgow university. I cannot remember what the occasion was nor who the bishop was, but Alex was speaking and he looked at the bishop, whose phone was ringing and said, “ Is that your ‘direct line’? “ as he looked up. He was so quick witted and what a laugh that got! RIP

Alex Salmond was a living embodiment of Rudyard Kipling’s great poem IF - all of it. ‘Talk with kings nor loose the common touch’ yes but ‘meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same’ and ‘make a heap of all your winnings and risk it on one game of pitch and toss and loose and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss’ but so many other lines describe Alex perfectly. Go and read it.

Great show. I seem to spend my time on social media, fighting with Nicola and SNP supporters . They call me Yoon and an Alba sympathiser. Is the latter supposed to be an insult. They make my piss boil. How can they not see the truth ? I think we should have a constant protest outside Holyrood manned 7 days a week by the true independence supporters, protesting not against Westminster, but against the SNP. Maybe this would shame them into action

@AzulinhoAzulinho 😂 another anti-Ukraine Alba Party type. In 1991 the USSR, a union of nations, collapsed. Later, the dominant power of that former union invades one of it's smaller neighbours and annexes parts of it. And you're currently siding with that dominant power. If that same scenario was occurring in a future former UK, you'd be supporting the right of England to annex parts of Scotland. It's no wonder Alba are a fringe party.
