I met Alex and all the guys of Testament in Cleveland at and old venue not around now . My friend and I went really early but there were others at the club walking around most wearing ball caps. Suddenly Alex took his hat off and I'm standing with my mouth open and Alex walks right to me and my bud and says hey you guys here working? Were like nooooo we're where to see you guys tear this club apart. He laughed and the rest of the guys from the band came over and talked very briefly with us but Alex stayed and talked for what seemed forever. When I had told him I played and was in a band at the time his eyes got wide and he grabbed his guitar, which had been put on stage as we talked and he sat on the edge of the stage and played and showed me things and he couldn't have been more nice, enthused to teach and show me some amazing riffs. I can remember to this day and this was late 80's how awesome this man was. This guy has soooo much soul in his playing even when he is shredding. Testament rocked that joint hard and loud. We stood right up to the stage for there was no security wasn't that type of venue. The band was great but Alex was on another level really no exaggeration. I've seen a lot of guitar heros live and met most. None was as nice and down to earth as Alex. But when he sat on that stage and played for me has to be one of my all time fav moments. Fuckin guy plays on another level really. Even this clip is great but he's so much more. Can't explain it he just plays with fluidity and soul. He fuckin rocks and a class act on top.

Alex Skolnick has been one of my top guitar heroes since The Legacy Album. I always thought He’s like the “Vai” of Metal 🙂
