Alex has a massive “vocabulary.” Whereas many players become masters of one style/scale (e.g. Kirk Hammett/SRV, Pentatonic masters) Alex has mastered all the modes. To use an analogy it’s like someone who got a gpa of 4.0 in HS and does really well afterwards but stopped there vs. someone who got a gpa of 4.0 in HS then went on to get a PHD all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa.
@rubicon-oh9km3 жыл бұрын
How do you compare Di Meola to Skolnick?
@Rational_Mind3 жыл бұрын
@@rubicon-oh9km great question. Although very different stylistically, there are similarities. Both have achieved what I refer to as that massive “vocabulary” and “dialects” in terms of a deep understanding of the many different harmonies, scales and modalities and contexts. They have also both developed the physical technique to effectively utilize them in actual musical scenarios such as composition and soloing. So I would say “some people say tomato, some say tomato” (British | American accent). I’ll also say that I love both these players. And while we’re at it, let’s through in Paco de Lucia. Another monster, other-worldly player...
