Literally every solo on the first four Testament records is memorable. Their new stuff doesn't really capture that same vibe, the solos aren't nearly as memorable. One exception being True American Hate, that one's awesome.

There's a series of British historical fiction books where the hero (called Mallen) has a grey streak of hair at the front, thus Brits look at Alex Skolnick and say, "He's got a Mallen streak". Also, Alex Skolnick is cool, looks even cooler and is a great player too.

I got to see them on their first tour with Anthrax in at the same theater that SRV filmed his last video in Pensacola Florida. I lived in Fort Walton Beach, about 30 miles East of there. A friend who was big into Thrash Metal wanted to go see the show. I was somewhat familiar with Pensacola because that is where I sometimes surfed, but I couldn't remember how to get to the theater(pre GPS days). Driving around looking for the theater and saw some five guys dressed in leather and denim so I pulled up to ask them if they were going to the show and they said yes. Asked them where the theater was and they told us. Said thanks and we were on our way. As we turned the corner my friend said, "Those guys are Testament. So we raced around the block to catch them again, but they were gone.

Alex is the only CORRECT one of Testament when Th' Ritual lp caused "dissention" (as th' music channel stated it) in th' band. This was THE BEST lp Testament EVER did in my opinion & Alex was right in wanting to keep playing in this style, it was melodic & HEAVY enuff & i really wish they would play in this style again but i know that ain't happening & you also have to respect Alex for sticking with this band thru all of that because he could probably play with anyone & he sounds th' BEST in that Ritual melodic style.

Ive never understood why guitarist (especially in metal) are going crazy 4 these Sweep Picking Arpeggio technics it sounds way too much linear n flat IMO ...but HERE the way there are approached by this cool dude it sounds way more interesting blending them with blues licks or chromatism phrases / its really cool idea im gonna work on - Thx
@Walamonga13136 жыл бұрын
Listen to Chris Polands, he sweeps quite a lot but you don't even notice it because he mixes it up with his trademark licks and doesn't just go around 6 string sweeping the whole neck.
@sonnic19956 жыл бұрын
because when you reach the technique to make sweep properly, clean and fast, i think, you just want to show off... it's like learning any new technique, when people learn tapping they just want to put it everywhere... but i guess since sweep IS and LOOKS hard they stick with it more time
