Ah, yes, the contestants face the guitarist's natural predator: the metronome!
@georgecolby74886 жыл бұрын
Akherousia502 best advice I ever heard from Kerry King was to practice with a metronome, or at least practice tapping your feet while practicing. Solid advice, strong sense of rhythm is crucial, even for soloing.
@Akherousia5026 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest issue is that most guitarists don't see the relationship between the two. Rhythm is present in leads, obviously, I mean I don't have to explain that because of course leads abide by the same rules of music theory and notation as anything else, but people seem to somehow see leads as being free-flow and ignoring the rules of notation and figure metronome related advice is either simply to prepare them for the studio, or solely for rhythm chops. If you want to be a consistent player, however, then regardless of your preference, the metronome's going to be your best friend. Sadly, players prefer to make it their enemy instead. It's not a coincidence that nearly every professional guitarist cites using a metronome as one of their most important tips, though.

It s a really good show, however, I don't like to rag on the guitarists, because it took balls to do what they did, but there are certainly much better guitarists out there. Alex: The only real musician on the panel. Sorry guys, but speed does kill, it kills anyone's brain who thinks that's what's most important, regardless of genre. Tonality comes first, then feel, then precision, then tone, then _lastly_ comes speed (is anyone gonna say Black Sabbath isn't metal? Never heard a really fast Sabbath song. Metal may be generally played faster than other genres, _but metal is still music,_ and the ability to play fast is not what makes something musical or not. I suppose you could argue my other points if you want to be silly, but without tonality, it can't even be considered music, period.

If you wanted this to be a true test, you should have only let them hear the metronome for the count-down and then make it only audible to the judges. Any schmuck can play in time with a metronome. What makes a great musician is keeping time when the metronome goes away.

Your right feel and time are essential and exist together.

They couldn’t even play with the audible metronome, imagine without it.

I mean shes probobly not that experienced as a guitar player, but that does not mean shes a bad guitar player, shes was just not up for that lead stuff yet, she needs a couple of months more of practicing and so does some of the other player here.

i actually really enjoyed her solo on the episode. thought it contained by far the most original style and actual musical qualities, albeit nervous execution. (and i made allowances for the horrific sound coming out of that amps speakers- that would throw any player off). it didn't surprise me though that the most original guitarist was also the worst at imitation and playing someone else's stuff. usually how it goes. bummer to see her go, but it made sense.
