crazy that michael Keene played the bass on In Becoming a Ghost...such a talented guy, even with all his problems.

Hi Alex, is that the same bass of the other covers of The Faceless? If your answer is yes, why did you decide to turn it to a fretless bass, because i can see some frets. Did you make it? Why you moved to a fretless basses. Sorry for the 100000 questions. BTW You're a beast! Greetings from Mexico...
@AlexWeberBass6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! No this is a totally different bass that I finished up earlier this year but I did cut fret slots in it so I could have markers of where the notes are. I haven't moved exclusively to fretless but I did want to own a good one so that I'd have the option to use it if need be.

Subscribed! Wow that's a cool bass, nice work and you're missing frets and missing an S and a T as I thought you were Alex Webster. Awesome playing :)

@danielizaguirre17866 жыл бұрын
I see you have uploaded tabs for the other two The Faceless songs, and I was really hoping to be able to learn this exact songs but there are no tabs :( killer cover though it's amazing that you're playing all of that on a fretless. Gives it an amazing sound :)

Daniel Izaguirre I'm going to be uploading tabs at some point soon, just haven't finished them yet. Keep an eye out over the next week or so!

Wow! Never heard such an aggressive fretless sound! Would you mind telling me which tuning and string gauge you'r using, because I really like the punch you have especially in the lower frequencies? I'm always struggling a bit trying to get such a balanced tone with my fretless.
@AlexWeberBass6 жыл бұрын
Philip Dollinger Thanks!!! It's in drop C and I'm using standard gauge (125 to 45) so it's nothing too out of the ordinary. All the gear (listed above) really helps with that but then a lot of the balance does come from your control and your finger tone. Also having a well built bass that's made of harder woods helps get that growl as well
@philip_plays_bass6 жыл бұрын
Alex Weber ah ok thanks. So I guess you are using normal roundwounds too?

Would you mind sharing some tips or directing me towards good resources to make authentic bass-player-like lines? Im a guitar player but when i write little ideas i wanna add acceptable bass to present to my mates to give them a better fleshed out picture of things. I had seen Erlend Casperson say that he mostly follows the guitars which is cool and hes amazing but i dont know. Hmm

It really depends on the musical context and how you want to play as a bass player. There generally aren't a lot of options outside of just following the riffs for metal bass players, especially in death metal, but you should check out players like Steve DiGiorgio and Evan Brewer because they are good at writing differing lines from the guitar parts without it straying too far. Also learn bass lines from bass players outside of metal like Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, Rocco Prestia, Ray Brown, Victor Wooten etc... because that to me is REAL bass playing and will actually help develop your concept of playing bass in the function that its originally intended.
@MrHikkikomori6 жыл бұрын
Alex Weber Thank you so much! I was actually planning on buying Victors book on music. I suppose thatll be a good start.
@AlexWeberBass6 жыл бұрын
Get Modern Electric Bass Player, Ray Brown's Bass Method and Standing In the Shadows of Motown too. That'll give you MORE than enough material to really start digesting being a bass player
