I remember Peter singing this on BBC with a brass band decades ago.In my opinion, the best ever rendition. He wanted it sung at his funeral.

It looks like this was recorded at about the same time we learned of Peter Skellern's terminal disease. News over last few hours is that Peter has now passed away. It would be nice to think music such as this will live on for many more performances and recordings.

I so loved Alexander's version of this song compared to Peter Skellern's. It is just a shame I cannot find and buy this song on iTunes.

@Missus Hay Alexander's version is on his new album, Upon A Different Shore, which is released this Friday (28/10).

ref one question before. Did some browsing. Certainly it is not Peter on the piano; Skellern was ordained this month as a priest and deacon - as he is critically ill... and certainly the chin is different.... Thanks to Margo for telling where to buy this song as this YT version is a bit flawed - and it is clear this version has a studio version behind it ;-)).

I think it's the chapel of Royal Holloway College, in London.

Yes it is the chapel at Royal Holloway. I was in this beautiful building yesterday, as I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London this week.

Do you think that was Peter Skellern himself playing the piano whilst Alexander sang this lovely song
@funkstermango8 жыл бұрын
I wondered that, but I don't think so. I looked Peter Skellern up out of interest, to see what he's doing, and he's much thinner.

Thanks Ian. I've tried looking for a web site for Simon Chamberlain. Do you know whether he has a web site please?
@1950hertz8 жыл бұрын
He does not seem to have his own site, but the BBC have some clips of his playing on the BBC Artists>Music page - search for Simon Chamberlain Musician
