What a nice man - and a very ice voice

Is this Alan Armstrong? I did think so, but then immediately thought that he was not a singer. And this singer is very good, especially as it's usually sung by a female singer or a choir.

The new album is even worse. Talk about bleak mid-winter, he'll make you wish it really was a silent night! It makes me laugh when people imply that just because critics may not profess to sing, that they are somehow unable to discern quality nor have any right to comment upon someone whose voice is so obviously devoid of charisma. Your 'singing by numbers' analogy is actually most apt - like someone copying the work of the great masters in poster paint by numbers. I guess if people want to short-change themselves, it's up to them, but there are so many sublime voices out there that I just find it so damn sad that they can't seem to tell the difference (although I notice that there do seem to be a few more 'realistic' reviews of his latest offering out there). As I've said elsewhere, it's a question of whether people want to be led by the nose or by their ears.
