Angelo Debarre - Thomas Dutronc Manoir de Mes Rêves

Angelo Debarre réunit ses amis pour un hommage à la culture des gens du voyage. Depuis Django Reinhardt, dont on fête les 100 ans, et jusqu'à aujourd'hui, cette musique riche fait vibrer plusieurs générations. Sa force est de toujours se réinventer. Ce bel hommage prend place autour du "feu de bois", dans un décor de caravane (décor créé pour le spectacle). Il nous parle d'hier et de demain en nous rappelant le fabuleux héritage laissé par Django : père spirituel du jazz manouche.

I stumbled across this concert while noodling about on KZbin. Never heard of this guy I am ashamed to say. There are many fine musicians in the Anglophone world but my God what a pity we have not got more exposure to these guys in the Francophone world they are just stunning! I tried 3 times to get out of this concert but couldn't! it just got better and better. Hypnotic beauty beyond description! google hard separates by country, region and language. it is really a pain. I only discover stuff like this because I am multi lingual and had a starting advantage. Although I am trying hard as a mature student to learn to read, write and speak the French language, I will reply in English since you are multi lingual. English and Irish are my main languages with a little Latin and student quality French, but it is getting better. I am a one man "sales rep" sharing anything interesting or beautiful I come across in French culture, with my mostly English speaking friends here in Ireland. I actually came across this Legend of the guitar while following another beautiful singer, "Tatiana Eva Marie" I think she may be French Canadian. She sings with among others a band called "The Avalon Jazz Band", in French also I think Italian and English. It was the songs she sings in French that hooked me into following them, especially the Johnny Halliday number "Souvenirs, souvenirs". From Avalon I picked up links on KZbin to many more Francophone musicians and this is where I discovered the wonderful Angelo Debarre. It is a very rich seam of wonderful singers and musicians that we do not really hear that often in the Anglophone media. So it is a pleasure to share him "Angelo" and others with my friends. jazz lives in Europe... bravo. In 1971 from the States I hitchiked through France & Spain w/ a Martin D 28 guitar which I was always too embarassed to take out of it's case and these guys are the reason why...True confessions.

i hear ya ... the technical virtuosity of players on the gypsy jazz circuit in Europe is pretty much unparalleled anywhere else. Sure, the Yanks and Brits have some really good, even great players, and Tommy Emmanuel out of Oz - but I have not seen the equal of Angelo or a Bireli or a Stochelo or a Jimmy. Lots of musicians can play fast at this tempo but not with the downstroke (AKA gypsy rest stroke) technique.

Il y a les mauvais artistes qui profitent du nom de leur père. Il y a les artistes authentiques qui se trouvent avoir un père doué. Et il y a les imbéciles et/ou jaloux qui préfèrent assimiler les seconds aux premiers. Thomas Dutronc est un excellent guitariste, et cela ne lui ôte rien de son mérite d'avoir un père célèbre.
