Manouche guitarists are simply virtouosos of the steel string acoustic guitar played with plastic pick! Angelo is definitely one of the biggest names to continue on the django reinhard legacy and tradition..... What an incredible musician the man is!

My intention was not to compare the musicians. I am just tired to hear people saying that Rosenberg or Birelli are better than Debarre. I merely tried to give some credit to such a great musician. At their level is impossible to compare the different abilities; it is very subjective.

Angelo has the level of Birelli or Stochelo or...anybody in this guitar world! Crossing our path in a live venue when the Rosenbergs started playing, he said:" listen you guys, this is the world's very best!". Another day, I was talking about Birelli, mentioning his amazing phrasing abilities on the archtop guitar, and Angelo said "and you haven't heard him play violin!!!" Having seen them all and jammed with some of them, I wouldn't choose between all these guys...

I say, that everyone, Stochelo,Bireli,Angelo,Tchavolo is very superb at its own tradition. You cannot say that one is better because they represent different styles of the same genre. For me, Bireli went out of Gypsyjazz and incorporated some other ideas, Stochelo made it supersonic, Tchavolo is swinging, but Angelo is my favorite- his sound is making my day much better. His phrasing is closest to my heart and what is genuine, he keeps the melody going at all times.Hope to see Angelo in Poland.

Its not important who is the best...........this is bullshit......its not a schoolyard pissing contest nothing in life is or should be. The one thing they all have that is the same is....they love what they do.......... and god bless them.

I disagree with the people who say that angelo is not at the level of stochelo or birelli lagrene. If you watch the majority of the videos in wich they played together you can see how the shows have been plainly organized to put stochelo and lagrene in emphasis. they play for 3 minutes together with huge smiles, and then there is debarre who plays by himself behind the main scene. He is as talentful as them, and he is keeping a kind of gipsy jazz wich is narrow and full of traditional sounds.

Birelli and Stochelo certainly play faster (which doesn't mean that Angelo can't play that fast). But Angelo play way way clearer than both of them, his tone is so clear and his his intonation is so perfect that you can give his solo to transcribe even to someone who has never did that before. Master of the tone and clarity.

Lots of great shots of his right hand. He seems to have quite a lot of his thumb extended over the pick, I think more than Stochelo does. KZbin videos like this are very helpful when starting out, cheers! Beautiful playing. Viva la gypsy!!

Every video I've seen where Angelo has played Le Vieux Tzigane there has been some minor alterations, but I'm guessing he keeps the core of the song intact while he improvises in between the melody. Man, this guy is an amazing guitarist, he plays the same songs, but plays them differently each time.

When I see the technique Angelo I'm just breathless with excitement, he does a magician, and his fingers are true magical. I think that the comparison of the greatest guitarists of the world - at least it's silly, because each of them is very nice and unique! I'm sure Django from heaven is proud of each of them - Angelo Debarre, Stochelo Rosenberg, Joscho Stephan, Birelli Lagrene, Romane, Dennis Chang, Yaakov Hoter, John Jorgenson, Wawau Adler, and all of guys who are playing great Jazz Manouche

These new people are fast, clean, and explosive, but they all seem to lack one thing Django had. The ability to play the melody line at the first of the tune so people can recognize it, and then go into the improv. So far Angelo and Stochelo are the only ones I've seen who start out with a tad of the melody line on a standard then goe into the improv. Nuages seems to hold them to the melody line for awhile, but forget recognizing Sweet Georgia Brown.
