Ever see a headline that you just HAVE TO CLICK - only to find out you’ve been completely misled, manipulated or downright duped?
Yes, that douchey copywriting I am talking about is clickbait.
You don’t have to be a copywriter or marketer to know what clickbait is.
Typically, we think of it as hyperbolic, overly sensational or unbelievable content that makes us desperately want to click to satisfy our curiosity.
But - wait.
Isn’t that kind of the point of copywriting? To get attention and encourage visitors to click on your link?

I have written a few articles that I was worried would come off as “clickbait”. But being in the niche of dog training and scientific study of canine behavior I feel I need to spice it up a bit to get viewers. All of my articles are filled with information to help my audience though...so guessing that would be “catchy hook”? The titles are relevant to the article but can be a bit far fetched sometimes...

Sounds like a page with a high bounce rate.

Hey Matt - I know exactly the offer(s) you’re referring to and I don’t love it. High-conversion on the front-end at the detriment of customer lifetime value. Also would love to see the refund rates. Also I really believe the market is becoming less tolerant of this sort of marketing - along with fake names, personas and stories.

I’ll add to that that I think there’s a way to close part of the loop in the sales page, but open a new one that gives people a reason to buy. Rather than using the same hook of “3 magic words” (as an example) on the ad, landing page and VSL. Only to discover - there are no 3 magic words! 🤮 Just my opinion of course.
