Dominique looked cheap , Alexis had more class in a fingernail than Dom in her entire body . The clothes looked borrowed on Dominique , on Alexis they look a thousand time more expensive and fit like a glove . There is one more thing beside intelligence that money can't buy, it is class, and Dominique should have known that Alexis drips with it .
@ajani200366 жыл бұрын
Morgan Olfursson you're speaking out of the era that this was taped in. I can tell by the tone of your comment where you're coming from. Back then this was magical
@morganolfursson25606 жыл бұрын
I used to watch it live as a pre-teen when it came out , i am from this Era . Now i don't want people to get it wrong i am solely talking about the characters, Alexis vs Dominique . The actors however were magnificent , both Diahann and Joan are class personified . It just annoyed me a lot that they put clothes that didn't fit and didn't look anywhere as expensive on Dom as they did on Alex. , Whether it was done on purpose or not i don't know but as someone who knows fashion and who used to watch the series with my grand aunt who worked for Dior in Paris at that time , i can't remember the number of times i heard her say " for heaven's sake why are they making Dominique look like she borrowed the clothes from people with a completely different figure , and why couldn't they make them, out of proper expensive material. Look at that scene Ajani . The furry cloak , it is either too long or too short , when you compare it to the dress , you never put together two different shades of beige, it looks cheap. The fur i fake and looks fake (personally i i am glad it is because i am against the use of fur) . The fabric of the cloak is wrinkled and hasn't been properly pressed before the scene , and real silk cashmere (which is what it is supposed to me made of) doesn't wrinkle like that and is a lot heavier. The dress is also either too long or too short , an order made couture gown at that time didn't stop right at the knees, it stops either an inch above if the lady was trying to appear risque and borderline vulgar or trying to pay homage to Twiggy , or an inch bellow if the lady was trying to appear proper but never right at the knee, because when Dominique sits it rides up to half her thigh, and makes her look like a cheap whore who refuse to accept her age , not classy at all . Look at Dominique when she walks, the dress is not fitted at the waist, the bust and the arms , and it is too ample at the hem. The tailoring is terrible, it looks like it was neither cut along the weft and warp nor cut on the bias , which is why it is shapeless. It looks like she borrowed it from Laura Ingalls from The little house in the prairie. It looks like a nice champetre gown made from a cheap fabric suitable to wear on holiday with your friends or when riding a bicycle, not to pay a social call when you're trying to impress someone, especially when you're pairing it with a cheap looking faux fur and fake cashmere cloak, a gaudy clutch and a pair of gloves which look like they once belonged to her Victorian grandmother and the whole lot in a different shade of beige for each item . And look at the tacky grandma like design of that brooch on her cloak , i mean how fake and cheap can jewelry look ? And finally look at that cheap hair compared to Alexis' wig .They're both wearing one , why couldn't they pick up the same quality hairpiece for both . That's why i wrote what i wrote . The only thing they couldn't make look cheap on Dominique , was her face , Diahann is a true beauty, the makeup is perfect and subtle for that period, very much ahead of the time (especially compared to that cheap Versace rococo paint Alexis's got on her face . which sure matches the equally rococo Versace outfit . You can't put these two ladies side by side and not see that Alexis' gown are fitted and fitting and are definitely the real deal (genuine Versace couture in that scene) . while Dominique's outfit does not match the character they are trying to portray .

Thank you to the Performance and Entertainment Gods who opened the door to let Ms Diahann Carol through to deliver these groundbreaking classic performances on this classic American tv show as Diahann was the first legendary actress of color that was allowed to grace the screen to be included in this very rich and powerful potrayal of American life in the 1980s which showcased very few people of color.

Alexis getting clearly rattled by a rival who is unknown to her and who appears at first glance to be on a similar, if not higher, social standing is really quite wonderful.

No comparisons needed to be made between these two beauties. Yes shade fest, but also friendship fest. These two women loved each other, and had a blast shading each other like this. They will forever be the epitome of fabulous, ultimate divas, both of them

I love the part where Diahann Carroll very nearly busts out laughing at Joan Collins over-the-top delivery "Wrong! It was Brussels, of ALL places." If you watch carefully she stifles a giggle before composing herself. The two of them were great friends in real life and they were obviously having a ball doing this scene

Alexis is my favorite character but Dominique owned this scene. Both great actresses

Wait a minute. Alexis “sent for” Dominique-got her so dressed up & ready for a party-simply to tell her “You weren’t invited. I sent for you” and “I don’t like you.” Damn!

It absolutely saddens me, my mother said to me the other day as we sat and watched this shade reading session on DVD "Is Diahann still alive".... literally the next day the news came scrolling down my newsfeed. Such a classy woman, a pioneer that set the tone for coloured women in the industry forever, a superlative talent at the top of her league, beauty, grace, elegance and a magnetic presence. Rest in power and greatness Ms Carroll, we shall not forget you.

@@lenmoore9109 well, who could blame her? After all, Alexis offered cheap 99 cent "osetrova" beluga to a queen??? Dominique is only accustomed to eating very expensive "Petrosian" beluga! Alexis's insolence goes too far!
