Thanks for the sweater link 😍 it's just what I've been looking for to team with equally sloggy Jersey trousers when our lovely North Scottish weather forces a lounge about the house on us 😂. Loved the talk & "yeah ageism can do one, I'm 50 this year, my life has been.. Leave school head to uni.. Met dude at uni.. Finish uni, marry dude & have 4 kids. Youngest has just moved in with her big sister &starting college. So after 28yrs wearing the Mom label (I'm also a grandmother to 3) I finally have time/space/a chance to experience life purely for me myself and I. For me 50 is where the carefree fun starts.

Yes, yes, yes we are about to go down to just one child at home come September and he’ll probably go the following year so we can see the nest emptying. Are we ready to slow down? Hell no just going to pick up where we left off - just with less money due to three at Uni 🤦🏼♀️

I'm a bit late to the party... but I just love the Stayley top you showcase in this vlog. I just bought it and I'm so excited to make it! I love the sidewinder pants too but sadly they do not go up to my size. No matter, I have a fabulous new jumper to sew! Thanks for your vlogs you do an awesome job 👏 😀 😊 👍

Loved this video Alex. I have a few sweaty Betty tops that I love and are in a similar slouchy style. I will definitely be having a go at this one. I’m right with you about no conforming. I am 68 and certainly won’t be slipping into ‘ granny’ mode. I had a hospital physio telephone consultation this week and was at pains to try to convince her I am not a typical 68 year old. Looking forward to seeing your ideas about a coordinated wardrobe.

Ooh Marilyn, that’s a great idea my gym is reopening this week 🤞🏻and is full of glamorous ladies head to toe in Sweaty Betty I hadn’t thought of making some for yoga etc, thank you for the inspiration ❤️❤️. Hopefully we’ll start the trend for future generations and the over 50s won’t be expected to be invisible 🙌🏻

I love the idea that you make things to wear around the house. I wear some ancient tracky bottoms that are so old I can't remember when I bought them but think they're probably at least 15 years old. I have 3 pairs, 2 navy and 1 grey. The grey ones are too long so trail on the floor and consequently have lots of little holes around the bottom edge. In the summer I wear old tatty white t shirts that have been relegated to wearing around the house because they're no longer very white. In the winter I wear old sweatshirts that are past their best and if it's very cold I wear one of the aforementioned t shirts underneath. Am I alone in being so scruffy? 😂
@AlexJudgeSews4 жыл бұрын
No, not alone my scruffs get stolen by my teens, the rattier they are the more they like them 🤷🏼♀️. It’s why I started making new things for myself, one day I’ll have a completely memade wardrobe 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Love the look of the trousers and tops - very cohesive! Will certainly take a look at the ageism links; we shouldn’t be invisible after a certain age and definitely don’t need to conform! x
@AlexJudgeSews4 жыл бұрын
So long as we believe in ourselves we’ll have to be noticed, in many ways I conform less now than I did in my 20s and I know I’m not the only one who feels this 😀😀

Three great makes! I rather like the thought of the sidewinders in a tweed with a cuff. A little bit 1940s I think. Will also check out the ted talk- age is just a number. I’m in my 60s but in My head I’m still about 28!
@AlexJudgeSews4 жыл бұрын
Oooooh in tweed you say, that would look so good ❤️❤️. 28, I’d go for 24 just in time to stop me getting married the first time 😁

2 lovely tops there Alex, the t-shirt pattern is almost identical to the Carine that Elbe used have as a free pattern, it's one of my favourite t-shirts. The sidewinders look interesting too, that seam detail definitely needs highlighting with a bit of top stitching. Thanks for the TED Talk link, will go & have a listen, ageism is one of the isms that often gets overlooked particularly in women - never conform 😉

Great content as always, well I try to convince myself that age is just a number, somedays it works and somedays I just feel damn I'm 60 next year , I really try to sew with what I already have in my wardrobe in mind ,but then I see some beautiful fabric I just need to have only to realise that I don't have anything in my wardrobe to match , and I need to buy another fabric to correspond ....ugh not good 🙃 Keep sewing all beautiful things and stay safe
@AlexJudgeSews4 жыл бұрын
Yeah we all have those days 🤷🏼♀️. That’s exactly what happens to me too, I have a plan then something shiny & new catches my eye and I’m off on another sewing tangent, I’ll be back soon with how I’m going to try to resolve the problem without removing the joy 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi Alex! OK - so that whole style vibe you’ve got going there is just fantabulosa and, I’m sorry but I’m going to have to copy the whole look! 😁😬 I’m totally with you on the ageism thing...I’m ME and I’m going to do it MY way! As my old boss used to say: “F*ck ‘em if they can’t cope!” 😂 Really looking forward to your next vid about wardrobe “togetherness”. I’ve been thinking about this recently and have come up with making outfits with a “linking” piece to other outfits (hope that makes sense!), this has also helped me with feeling somewhat overwhelmed with wanting to make ALL THE THINGS and then getting stuck and not making ANYTHING! Anyway, I’ll shut up now and head on over to my sewing machine... 💜
@AlexJudgeSews4 жыл бұрын
Makes perfect sense Jo, I totally relate to being overwhelmed by too many ideas, too much fabric and not enough hours in the day to make everything. At the same time I don’t want to take the joy out of it and be all Uber organised 😀

Do you mind me asking what size you made? You said 'medium' but this sizing is not indicated on the pattern. I have made one pair in linen, but they are not as fitted as yours look. My hips are 105cm and I made a size 12...I'm thinking I should try the size 10?
