Yeah, Season 2 was when the show was starting to get really good. Season 1 was a bit cheesy and a little weird, ngl (since it gave off some Hollywood Camp Rock vibes; probably because Demi came straight out of Camp Rock)… but Season 2 gave us a bit better comedy (So Random! skit parts improved a bit), more music (with Sonny singing more, along with more musical sketches), Sonny and her relationship with Chad (which added for some more drama and comedic relief), improved chemistry among the characters, better storylines (for most episodes), etc. I will admit, Season 2 was still cheesy, but in a good way. Season 2 made me laugh more, especially if you watch Sonny and Chad’s first date. I’m sure the third season would’ve been good, if it would’ve happened.

This show is a great example of why you should never judge shows by their pilots. Every show needs at least three episodes to judge properly. So Random in the show is actively made fun of for being stupid and the rivalry between their show and MacKenzie falls is half of the fun. I didnt really care for this show at the time, and I didnt think i'd remember any of it, but I somehow remember everything he showed off like a long forgotten memory I wanted to forget. But Definitely agree that should NEVER judge a show on the pilot. You'd think you should be able to coz it's the 1st episode people judge so it should be good right? NOPE. I almost always hate the pilots. I always watch at least 2-3 episodes, after I almost wrote off Doctor Who because I went into it blind, and the whole "mannequins taking over the world" story wasnt sitting with me for a whole 5 season show lol. And ever since then I was always relieved to hate trailers of shows and start really enjoying the show if I can make it past the pilot. lol. And oh boy when I tried to watch the original 1st episode of doctor who...that Caveman Episode was torture. I truly wonder how the show started from that...it was so damn boring! The funny thing is that I liked so much Phineas and Ferb and Avatar that we rewatche them every now an then, and they still work. Wizards of Wv Place I liked it a lot because the main character was a bad girl with a nerd brother, and that premise was very interesting, but it didn't age so well and the realization of the episodes was not so good either, but it had its highlights.

Easily the best part of this show was Demi and Sterling's chemistry, you knew that Chad and Sonny were going to be together but damn, did they have to go over a loooot of obstacles to make that happen and when they actually became a couple, it was literally perfection. They were so meant for each other and it was so much fun watching them. And what's even better is that I think both of their characters had changed for the better since their relationship challenged them in so many ways. The show wasn't the greatest at first but it definitely got better

I binge watched both seasons of this show over two days when I was sick with the flu. I think watching it with a raging fever and pausing to puke every twenty minutes is the best way to do it. I haven't seen an episode since. Before that, though, So Random was the first show I watched on Disney channel, so it still holds a special place in my heart even if it's pure garbage.

The thing that you have to remember about these shows is that it's not about how clever the writing was/n't, or how funny it actually was/n't, but instead whether the main character represented wish fulfillment for the young girls watching it. Which means the girl has to be 1) pretty, 2) extremely talented (and if it's something like Sonny With a Chance where the talent is "being funny", show-don't-tell rules need _not_ apply, having all the other characters laugh and call her funny is enough), and also shy/quirky/etc. enough that all the "not-like-other-girls" girls find her relatable. Because if they can relate to the main character, they can project, and suddenly _they're_ the pretty and talented one. Bonus points if the other characters on the show make fun of her for being shy/quirky or for another inexplicable reason because then the audience can go "see, she's unappreciated and bullied despite being amazing...just like _me_" So if you're wondering who could have possibly enjoyed these shows at the time...that's who.

This is why I always liked Nickelodeon's shows more than Disney's. Disney had a lot of squeaky-clean wish fulfillment characters, whereas Nick always had much stronger characters with defined personalities. Clarissa, Salute Your Shorts, Pete and Pete, etc. all had incredibly strong female characters who weren't just there to be a blank slate. (Admittedly I was a preteen in the early '90s, as you can already tell by my list of shows, so idk if Nick still has the same kind of great writing.)

This was one of the only things that cheered my little brother up when he was in the hospital going through VICIOUS brain surgery and cancer treatments when he was about 8, my mom and I ended up enjoying it too. Man I loved Sonny With A Chance as a kid (this show def gets better after the first episode) and I was so mad when it was canceled and we never got an ending (I'm like 90% sure S2 ended on a cliffhanger). And when it just turned into So Random skits, I was not having it since I was expecting the story to continue. Also lol I remember that skit shown at 9:07.

Frankly, I rewatched Sonny with a Chance really recently and I remembered every single line from all the episodes starting with episode 2 and onward till Demi left the show. The first episode I watched of Sonny with a Chance was episode 2 and I did not watch episode 1 until I was already deeply involved with the show. I would also like to point out that if you don't watch Sonny with a Chance you are missing out on Mackenzie falls which despite being a teen drama in the first season that was only alluded to, the second season showed us clips of Mackenzie falls and I still think those are some of the funniest clips that ever came out of a Disney Channel show.

I’ve seen far worst things from Disney than this. It’s not a masterpiece, but it has definitely made me laugh. I loved the characters, including Sonny and her optimism (even at times it could get annoying). I loved some of the sketches. And even when watching it again on Disney+ I still enjoyed it. You shouldn’t judge a show based just on the pilot because the pilot is just a teaser. Between writing the first episode and the second, new writers are brought on and things are added to affect the dynamics of the show. Sometimes the pilot is entirely filmed before the rest of the season is. The three episode test is a chance to see if the writers ironed out any quirks or problems. It is common for television to run on three episode arcs, and often the first three episodes will be an introduction arc. CDC is a major character in Sonny with a Chance, but isn’t even introduced until episode 2. Think about the first episode of any show. They may be good episodes, but they almost never fully reflect the entirety of the season, let alone the show as a whole. However, the first three episodes can give an audience a chance to see if there is something worth staying for.

We’re introduced to the characters through Houghie’s pov and at the end, he kills translucent, cementing himself as part of the team and now a part of their goal. Episodes 2 and 3 flesh out the world and the characters to help us understand where the show will go from here, now that the norm has been established, let’s see how our hero or heroes will change it.

@@wildste Pilots can have stuff to keep you watching, and they need it, but just because something interesting happens in the pilot, doesn’t mean the show is or isn’t worth watching. There are plenty of shows I’ve watched that have great pilot episodes, but by the third episode, I’ve lost interest. I think it’s ridiculous to ask a person to sit through two seasons of a show for it to “get good”, but it isn’t much to have a person give a show three episodes before they decide if they like the vibe of the show or not. Plus, shows like the Boys are based on the franchises, and Amazon knew from the jump that it’d have a whole season. The Boys didn’t have to go through pilot season stuff like other shows. When a show can be planned way in advance without many changes occurring, that’s great. However, it isn’t the reality for 90% of the shows. Pilots are introductions to the status quo. Basically exposition. The follow up episodes are usually where you can see where the premise is going and if they writers are creative enough to do anything entertaining with it.
