Fun Fact: This wasn't originally going to be a Spy Kids film. Robert Rodriguez initially didn't want to do a 3rd movie. He instead had come up with an idea for a science fiction movie about a group of kids going inside a video game, getting stuck in the video game, and it being in 3-D. However, he realized that setting up the characters and the world of that film was gonna be a nightmare. So he decided to instead make it the 3rd Spy Kids film as he figured that concept would've fit perfectly in the Spy Kids world

From what I remember, most of these stars came out of love for the director's rich history of representation of the Hispanic family bonds, mostly Banderas, Danny Trejo and Carla Gugino. Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn also made Clooney and Hayek big stars so they said that they kind of owed it back. Rodriguez also had built a studio in his own home, allowing good box office returns. Actors like Stallone did it because his own children love the first. P.S. the girl at the waterpark in the beginning is the first role of Selena Gomez.

Spy Kids 2 was even pretty weird to me as a kid, not that the effects looked bad but it was just a weird movie. Also, the trilogy was my childhood too and no matter how famous several of the actors are I can't help but think of them as being from Spy Kids lol.
@SirNerdLeroy Жыл бұрын
I remember realizing how major the actors in these movies are and being so shocked they were in these kid movies, but then I got into the Rodriguez movies made before 2001 and realized he's just using actors from his past films. Selma makes sense when you see From Dusk Til Dawn. Steve makes sense when you watch Desperado. Elijah makes sense when you get into The Faculty, especially when you find out his cast mates encouraged him to audition for Frodo.

Fun fact i remember on the special features they "showed off" all of the green screen effects right down to the family lining up before gramps goes to face the Toymaker. That line up shot was 3 separate takes. At no point in the movie is anyone on screen in the same room at the same time. Most of the movie is single actors in a room, talking to no one, all stitched together in post. And let me tell you as a child it was freaking awesome.

It's been years since I watched Spy Kids 3. I forgot how star-packed cast the Spy Kids films especially with Sylvester Stallone and Salma Hayek and even Elijah Wood. How did Robert Rodriguez get these actors?!?!? Also, this movie is only 80 minutes 😅 it felt like 90 minutes as a kid.
@davidfairweather3301 Жыл бұрын
I think Robert Rodriguez has a lot of respect in the industry. One big reason that apparently he’s a really nice guy, and is really passionate about movie making. Apparently he was offered a bigger budget for spy kids 2 but actually chose to go with a smaller budget as he felt he was more creative with less money because it meant he was limited with ways in which he could make the process easier. It helps him think outside the box. It’s a big reason that the first Saw movie did so well, as James wan (and Leigh whanell) had such a small budget that they had to come up with creative ideas to make the movie work.
@Oberonjames10 ай бұрын
There's too many dead actors in that family montage. I kinda teared up a little bit. And thank you for not ruining it with an obvious Vin Diesel clip.

All of his kids' movies are passion projects because they are based on storylines Robert Rodriguez came up with his kids when they were young. They work because they capture themes like the magic of childhood and the unstoppable power of redemption. Like, have you noticed in all of his kids films that few, if any of his villains actually stay villains?
@Bro-cx2jc Жыл бұрын
That's true. Floop was conflicted and went too far for his TV show, but realised he was wrong to kidnap agents purely for entertaining people on TV, so he worked with Carmen and Juni to undo the damage he had helped cause. He reprogrammed all the robots and sent them out to consistently work for good. The Toymaker realized he would rather let Grandpa Cortez come to meet him and face punishment despite his mental instability and emotional conflicts, and helped the players reach him in the end. Demetra was able to break free from her programming and help Juni and his team...well because she liked him I guess, I dunno Minus realized Max was right about destroying others' dreams being a poor choice to deal with his own crushed hopes, and helped undo the damage he'd caused by marking over the dream journal / control panel thingy.

I think they alluded to them being spy partners back in the day and some kind of betrayal by the Toymaker led to grandpa accidentally being hurt by it in a sort of domino effect/collateral damage thing, and the Toymaker always regretted it I'm sorry I played that movie so many damn times back in the day, English, Spanish, captions on....most scratched disc in the house 😂😂 Oh also I believe the betrayal was motivated by the Toymaker being angry with the OSS, hence his line at the end of the movie saying he wanted to right the wrongs and get revenge for them "using" him on top of imprisoning him (likely for the event that cost grandpa his legs)
