I saw this twice in theaters (Chicago showed up for this movie) and I'll admit...I was probably the oldest person in the theater (Mid-30s surrounded by college aged folks). But man was it a great time, both times. People who were there to enjoy the movie and did. In a lot of ways, the movie feels like an updated Strangers with Candy, the show from the early 2000s with Amy Sedaris and Steven Colbert. And while the humor of that show is very of its time (that ironic racism, ableism, sexism that was very popular) it had an absurdist bent in its humor that is updated, elevated and executed so well in Bottoms. Actively encourage it, will be watching again, always look in the background for even more gags. Just a packed comedy that, as you put it, knows what it wants to be and then is that.

I actually went to high school w Ruby Cruz, the girl who played Hazel. We even did a production of Heather’s together. She was always incredibly talented and dedicated. It’s cool to see how far she’s come in her career since then!

I saw a few trailers and it made such an impression that I drove 30 minutes to the only theater playing it by myself. It was great. He honestly didn't even mention the best parts of the movie, like the gym and football scene or the background growth of the club members. 10/10 recommend ❤

The fact I actually was laughing at the scenes of the movie on the video vs laughing at the reactions to the scenes sold the movie to me. Will watch as soon as it gets to my country.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but noticed one of the protagonists, Rachel Sennot, was also the protagonist of "Shiva Baby" and that movie was top-tier comedy as well. Highly recommend it!😂

Alex, thank you so much for this video! I saw Bottoms twice in theaters because it was soooo good! Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri do so much strong acting work to ground the movie while balancing the crazy bloody reality it lives in. I wish we could have more movies like this! It truly feels like a lesbian Mean Girls meets Fight Club minus all the mental gymnastics of a Brad Pitt alter ego. Truly a work of art film! I WANT MORE!

Rachel Sennott is a big star to ME, haha. Shiva Baby is fantastic (same lead actress and same writer/director, Emma Seligman, as Bottoms), and Rachel was also hilarious in Bodies Bodies Bodies. She always plays a total dirtbag, and I love it. Also love Ayo Edebiri in The Bear, where she plays a very different character!

This movie is such a validating example of how queer main characters can do queer things and have that be ‘the whole point of the movie,’ but still be universally relatable, entertaining, and appeal to a wide audience. When I was growing up, queer people were starving for any kind of positive representation in media. I had members of my own family telling me ‘idc if there are queer characters in movies but being queer can’t be the whole point that’s just annoying.’ While I was desperate to see queer characters being queer onscreen. This movie does that. And it’s fantastic. I think it’s an instant mainstream classic comedy. And it’s so nice to finally be able to talk to my straight friends and coworkers about a queer film we both saw and enjoyed independently.

‘Bottoms’ is very much Alex Meyers coded. It’s zany and funny with a genuine personality at the centre. Ok was that too subtle? Idk

Alex, I'm 32, I relate alot to what your experiences were in your upbringing. I'm living with my dogs and chough my torso out in one go. But I like that you put it out there, the times where you just can compare to how life actually works! And you found it being you! And you found this success being you!
