Yeah, after 3 months of research and test driving against all the competitors and higher-priced options like the Stinger and AuDi A4/A6 I purchased the 6 sig. While Camry and Accord have aspects that maybe "better" than Mazda. The sum of the Mazda's parts and design make it a better car. Also a lot to be said for Mazda's design/engineering capability when an almost 6 year old design can stay competitive with BRAND NEW designs from appliance manufacturers. Also cannot agree with your opinion on tranny. I found the Accord and Camry tranny hunted alot, while Mazda did not. And exactly what interior parts felt of better quality in the Camry? I found the Camry plastics and large front doors to feel lightweight and cheap. Mazda felt more solid. And I cannot get by the Accord's beak. Personally, you don't buy the Mazda for numbers, you buy it for how it feels to drive. Number lie when compared to real-world experience. Anyway, to each there own.

I have sat in the Mazda 6 and its competitors, but I have not driven them. Based on initial impressions, I have to agree with you. The Mazda 6 definitely feels more premium than everything else in this class. The Accord is close but not quite there. Additionally, other reviews that I have read or watched do suggest that you are absolutely right on all the points that you make. If my money were on the line, my choice would be the Mazda 6.

The biggest issue with Mazda (in the USA) isn't the products, they are generally excellent, but the poor dealer network. Mazda simply allowed some room to improve performance on future models, same way Apple holds back a few features with each new iPhone release. That big 2.5t engine could wipe out Honda's 1.5t in acceleration if they wanted to go that route, they just chose the "around town" tune where diesels usually shine, as in shooting that gap in traffic going 40-60mph. If i were buying a midsized sedan today it would be the 6, not just because i like the way it looks versus the competition, but also to support Mazda..the little car company that may just extend the shelf life of internal combustion engines with their SkyactivX.

Adaptive suspension jacks the price up of all cars. They are notoriously very expensive to replace, if something goes wrong. And it will - case in point - my friends Lexus LS460 adaptive suspension had to be replaced and it was in the thousand's per side. You can replace with regular shocks, if you can find a mechanic willing to do that - but in that case you'd want to do all sides at once. I just think everyone should be aware of this potential cost.

Alex. Like your channel but you are wrong about taking tire width over tire compound. If you put better gripping tires on a car it does was more for handling than width. Motor trend did a video on this years ago. Better tire compound beats a slightly wider mediocre tire everyday.

Dang, Alex typically loves Mazdas but he was pretty critical of this new turbo 6. A lot of us are expecting the new turbo 6 to be a great driving car in the mainstream family sedan segment since previous iterations of the 6 were largely seen as the beat handling and one of the most fun to drive. I guess I’ll just have to test drive it vs the accord and see for myself.

Just bought it for a couple reasons. First, this is the car when you want something rare to find on the road. I guess there will be lots of people will argue to this but let just say there are some people enjoy the uniqueness. For the second, this car looks beautiful inside and out. I did cross-shopped with the new Accord touring and the 6 sig. and it's safe to say that both are great cars. but I care more about the interior because you never drive a car looking outside of the car. It's just one or two class above in the 6's cabin.

Nothing unique about the Optima or Sonata or any Korean car-they are the King and queens of knock off and copying other brands. Mazda 6 is better looking in every way and drives better also. Optimas are a good value and more features for the same money but also don't feel as good quality as Mazda or nicer German cars. Mazda is the best in class though the Accord and Camry are slightly quicker 0-60 but not in everyday driveability. The Stinger and Genesis however are better cars in most ways but also quite a bit pricier. Mazda offers a better sweet spot of quality, value, power, comfort, luxury and refinement than any other brand right now. Not the best in everything category but the sum of it's parts are greater as a whole. And while not in the same class, what the Stinger/Genesis do offer is a better value relative to the German cars with a better warranty and possibly reliability. But not sure I'd take either over the outstanding current generation of Audi A3/4/6 or BMW 2/3/4/5 as both brands produce outstanding vehicles, albeit at a higher price.

The discrepancy in interior quietness many, including myself, are referring to may be due to the type of road the car is tested on. Coming from a 2016 Outback 3.6R Limited to a 2017 CX5 GT, I have noticed that the Mazda is much quieter on smoother roads; however, it is louder than the Outback on coarser pavement. So it is conceivable that Car & Driver found the Mazda 6 quieter than the competition because the cars were tested on smooth roads, while Alex found it (the Mazda 6) louder because he tested them on coarser pavement. As for the C+ score, I woudn't pay much attention to that. According to Alex on Autos, the 2017 CRV and the 2017 CX5 measured the same decibel reading - 70 decibels at 50 MPH. Yet, the CRV scored an "A" for "cabin noise", while the CX5 scored an "A-".

I'm pretty sure if you review all of our videos you won't find that the case. I dislike the Camry's looks and I also give it just as much of a ding for lacking AA and CarPlay. The Mazda6 is attractive and a fine alternative, but is it the "best"? No, I cant' say that at this moment. However, if you review other Mazda vs Toyota videos we've done you'll see that we rank the CX-9 above the Highlander, the CX-5 above the RAV4 and the Mazda3 above the Corolla.

I drove the 2019 Camry XSE V6 and the 2019 Accord Sport 2.0 Turbo and both cars outperform the Mazda 6 in terms of real power. I would add that I preferred the V6 of the 2019 Camry XSE but at the end, I choose the 2018 Mazda 6 GS-L 2.5 Turbo for its look, its finish. its handlind, its quietness and especially for the price (excellent rebate for a year old new car). To conclude, if the 3 vehicles (Camry XSE V6/Accord Sport 2l Turbo/Mazda 6 GS-L 2.5l Turbo) were at the same price when I was ready to buy, I would have bought the Camry XSE V6. Solid review.Very surgical as usual, which is why I watch Alex's videos. Points taken for a notion that Accord's interior is better (when literally every journalist ever proclaimed it almost on part with entry level BMW and Audi, and Accord's interior looks like a knockoff of 2017 Mazda 6). Second, sound measures have to be wrong, seeing how all other reviews put it uniformly on par, or quieter than Camry and Accord. I agree with all the other points though. This was a bit of a stop gap for Mazda until the new generation comes out, but overall not bad for a 6 year old platform. They could have saved the day with AWD and slightly different engine tuning (instead of tuning it exactly like CX9 and giving it all that torque). 270 hp and 280 torque would be easily achievable on that 2.5T on premium.

The 0-60 time Alex got in the Optima is still suspect 🧐🧐🧐, so it's actually one of the slowest in the class. However, I average 27 -28 mpg so the fuel efficiency is actually quite good and premium gas is not even recommended. The interior materials aren't as nice as the Mazda, but it has additional premium features, and I have heard the Harmon Kardon System is better. Furthermore, the infotainment and 360 camera are better in the Optima, plus you get a longer warranty. In conclusion, I recommend the Mazda 6 or the Kia Optima, if you aren't looking for the fastest in the class.

Sedans are a tough space, and not just because people are shifting to Suvs. The Stinger, Regal Sportback, even a 2yr old Lexus GS are in the same price range, so buyers have a lot of good choices. Sadly you can't get this car without a moonroof in the higher trim packages so my 6'5" body doesn't fit without bumping my head. If they had a "moonroof delete" option I would buy it in a heartbeat to replace my old Mazdaspeed 6.

the 6 has the looks but not the Oomph, I suspect those will be sorted out in a next generation 6. Grand Dad's Camry finally out-handles the 6 while being faster at the same time.

Just watched another video of the Mazda 6 facelift and it turns out Carplay and Android Auto are finally available in Europe. But we don't get the turbo engine.

Is it only the Turbo version that comes with the Diamond Gril?
@exothermal.sprocket5 жыл бұрын
"Torque is nothing without horsepower behind it." Actually, torque is quite literally a rotational force. That rotational force doesn't necessarily result in any motion whatsoever. If things start to rotate, then you factor in two more things: distance and time. Horsepower is force, distance, and time........ in other words, the result of a formula of individual factors.
@marktodd44795 жыл бұрын
for real....torque trumps hp all day long. torque gives all the fun
@exothermal.sprocket5 жыл бұрын
@@marktodd4479 If you're talking about something that moves (the car) as the result of a force (torque), you cannot escape a horsepower formula. What you mean to say is, having great torque a low engine speeds. And I agree, having solid torque at low engine speeds is far more satisfying.

My personal preference is the Toyota Camry XSE w/ V6 engine. The interior is nice and so is the exterior, especially in black top and white body color profile. It is actually sort of luxurious (especially with the red seats imo) and cheap to maintain. The XSE version is particular is fun to drive as well. Don't forget how reliable Toyotas are either.

Nice looking car, except for that Darth Vader grill. Don't know why Toyota and Lexus went that route, but they are hideous. Can't say that the unibrow grill on the new Accord is much better. Mazda6 is still the most attractive of these 3, by a long shot.
@st.thomas58025 жыл бұрын
@@chuckd7423 Agreed-id consider if it wasn't for the hideous grill bc it looks good otherwise and I'm a sucker for V6s. The Accord is even uglier despite being a nice car, though saddled with a a CVT in all but the highest spec. When my current lease is up it's either a 17 Mazda 6 GT or new 18 6 Sport/Touring. I really would love the turbo but the base engine is quick enough and Im really impressed by all the new refinements and interior-especially the new seats!

Purchased in May. 3.5k miles/5.6k km and the hood is all chipped up. Never in 3 years of ownership of my Jeep Wrangler or Mazda Miata did I ever see paint so easy to damage - and thats with hundreds of thousands of km in that time frame. The paint IS incredible to look at, but not if it means this kind of wear and tear. Having the hood refinished and protected. Love the car otherwise.

A really really good car this Mazda 6 is. But it gets really worrisome once you start looking at the competition. Especially that Camry V6 and the top trim Accord. Heck even that Legacy 3.6 somehow looks a better option to me than Mazda 6 for the more comfortable seats, Android Auto/CarPlay and AWD standard. Eyesight and the list goes on
@st.thomas58025 жыл бұрын
If you don't mind an ugly grille sure-pretty good cars but definitely not better than a 6. Though I admit to liking a good V6 like offered in the Camry, the Mazda is built from better quality materials, has better steering, a nicer interior and is a great value in any trim. And snow tires are better than AWD in the snow and between the 3.6 and AWD the Mazda will destroy it in fuel economy. And unless you get the top spec Accord you get a piece of turd CVT and if you get the Camry V6 you're paying close to $40k making the Mazda 6 GT a much better value than any of the 3.
@nevermore3116 жыл бұрын
This brings up a very natural question: will we see these new higher trims and engine show up in the 2019 Mazda3? Or at least something similar maybe? That car should totally be bumped up over 200hp. And actually, I think the CX-3 needs a big workover as well. I don’t even think they offer the 184hp engine for that model, which is just stupid.

I enjoy your reviews most of the time, but this time I have to disagree with you on several fronts. When it comes to style, the Mazda is hands down the best looking, in and out. It’s cohesive and sultry. The Camry is nice looking from the back and side if you get the sport versions, but the front end is HORRIBLE! The front looks pieced together on the Sport models and the base front looks like the Avalon. The interior is overstyled just like most Toyota’s. Nothing cohesive at all. The Accord is not bad overall but it looks like Honda went with the fastback style and it looks a bit frumpy. The interior of the Accord is a nice place, definitely better than the Camry, but doesn’t feel premium to me (I have sat in a few touring and sport models). The Mazda looks and feels expensive compared to the others. I don’t know what materials you think are better in the others because I haven’t seen them or felt them. The only thing that I believe would make the 6 better would be the replacement of Mazda Connect. It’s not perfect, for sure, but neither is the system in the recent Honda’s. Honda makes you go through too many steps to do basic things. You mention the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto missing from the Mazda and Toyota. I saw a review recently where Mazda has made CarPlay and Auto available as a download through the service department. The vehicle just has to have Mazda Connect with Navigation. I stopped by the dealership to see the new 6 GT Signature and I asked the dealership if this was true and I was told, yes! The new models arriving this fall will have it in them from the factory. I’m sure the Camry will get it soon enough.

Honda has never had premium interiors. Functional sure, but they always have dull and uninspired cabins filled with cheap plastics.
@FG-fk6jb6 жыл бұрын
The very notions of 'like'/'dislike' are subjective in general, and especially so when you compare same or similar products (top trims of midsize sedans in this case). These 'feelings' are results of combinations of many things, both measurable, therefore objective (0 - 60 time, sheer horse power, LED headlights, sunroof etc) and subjective ones ('more attractive', 'better road 'feel', 'fun to drive' etc). Those combinations will affect different people differently, some will 'like' them more than others and vice versa. There is no need to argue about that. It's like saying that blue color is better than red, but worse than green. You just 'feel' that way, while another person 'feels' differently.
