The legendary 911 will always hold a special place in my heart, but I have to admit that id budget were no option, I'd probably buy the Taycan Cross Turismo or GTS Sport Turismo instead. Obviously the usual EV benefits are here: instant and linear acceleration and no waiting on a transmission to shift when you exit a corner. But it's combined with Porsche's expertise in steering and chassis design and the final product is more than the sum of its parts. The drivetrain, steering, and suspension are as well integrated as any other Porsche. The result? This is simply the ultimate performance EV and IMHO, possibly the best Porsche ever built. As long as you're not road tripping...

@@MrStian78 The best thing for the Taycan is the 22 kW onboard charger, which is optional here in Germany. It needs only 4.5 hours to charge the battery from 0-100% at an AC outlet. I guess that 95% of Taycan owners, who have a "normal" usage below 350 km/200 miles of daily driving, won't need public DC fast charging anyways, if they have a wallbox charger plus such a 22 kW onboard charger. With such an equipment, the battery is fully charged every day in the morning when you step in your Taycan. I think, the 22 kW charger is the best option you can get for the Taycan. I also think, that charging the Taycan mostly at home with relatively "low" 22 kW will save a lot of its battery life. The battery longevity suffers a lot, if you charge the battery very often or even daily with almost brutal 260-270 kW, which are possible with the Taycan.
@MrStian78
@MrStian78 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-jf8gd3lv7q why do you need that? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I drive 40.000km a year and I would never have the need for the 22kw chargers. 11KW at home is perfect. I am home for at least 10 hours anyway.

I was in a Taycan a couple of weeks back and after getting rid of my model S it was nice to be in something built well from real materials. The S seemed ok but next to the quality in the Porsche it soon became obvious it was really just dressed up junk. Oh and on the Porsche all the panels seemed to fit correctly too. My S looked like it had been poorly accident repaired from new.

@@garrettw99 Ford Kuga (escape) plug-in. Top trim was less than half the cost of the S, still does all my daily use on electric and seems to be put together properly - though I did have to wait a couple of months while Ford were sorting out their battery fire problems(!). Another big difference to Tesla there because Ford kept me up to date on what was happening, lead times and even gave me a free upgrade to the later specification (it changed while I was waiting so free B&O stereo which I previously optioned) and they gave me a £750 fuel card as a good will gesture. By contrast when I reported the hatch not lining up properly and some of the trim inside falling off on the S, they put it on a list. After waiting for the call back which never came for a week I called them again and was told the earliest they had was another fortnight. I took that and the guy turned up in a little van then started dismantling my car on the drive in light drizzle. After around three hours he had the trim pieces back on (with a suspicious smell of glue) and the hatch lid was closer but still not straight. That, the mis-aligned bonnet (which eventually failed to open) and the rear door were never aligned properly even after multiple calls and three seperate call outs. The funny thing is the Ford which cost around £40k has no squeaks, rattles or build issues while the tesla at £88k never stopped squeaking, rattling and generally looking like thrown together rubbish. The power was nice but as Alex aluded to here - it was a one trick pony because everything else about the experience was very sub standard for a car at that price. The Renault Zoe it replaced was better built which is saying something because that wasn't great. I'm looking seriously at the Taycan, Etron and EQS now. I found the Taycan a little tight to get in and out (I'm not exactly a small guy) but only slightly tighter than the S. Once in it it fits very well but I'm not sure I want to fold myself up every time I need to get in/out so I'm going to look at the other two aswell.

@@LWRC Well I fell for it because all the fanboys on the internet give them rave reviews while "forgetting" to mention the downsides. Mostly that they are built like a mid 80's Fiat only with worse panel gaps. Once bitten and all that - Tesla won't be seeing my money again and I'm not the only one.

Thank you VERY much for explaining the EPA rating details to everybody here! I think, EPA should enforce ONE (the most precise) measurement methodology. The data is meant to be useful for comparision! (Porsches sand-bagging is annoying. Smart marketing move though, as influencers can keep saying "they always over-deliver!".) Of course you will rarely reach (precise version) EPA numbers in your normal driving, their are supposed to be conservative driving under optimal conditions - but at least they should be measured the same way for everybody!
@siraff4461
@siraff4461 2 жыл бұрын
The problem there is some cars can be far more efficient in that tiny window where very little energy is used. Tesla is a perfect example of this. If somehow you manage to get the planets to align I'm sure you can hit their epa numbers but passengers, heating, wet roads and all the rest have a pretty significant impact on them. Something like a V8 truck on the other hand won't change a lot with those factors so it starts off looking a lot worse (because it is) but doesn't lose out anywhere near as much as all the normal use factors are thrown at it.
@NO3V
@NO3V 2 жыл бұрын
@@siraff4461 are you basically just saying "EVs are so efficient, small influences make a big difference"? Well duh.. Would still be the same for similar cars and the exact same lab test would give exact COMPARABLE results.

@siraff4461
@siraff4461 2 жыл бұрын
@@NO3V Thats the thing though - it would only be comparable for similar cars and its an easy system to game because you just make your car ultra efficicnt in a tiny window no one in real driving will ever use. This is exactly why the European version had to change their testing procedure a few years back. You had cars like the Fiat twinairs which would look like 60mpg+ on the test then get mid 30's in the real world and others like the Mercedes 220d which would get 60+ on test but actually do 50+ pretty easily in real driving. Tesla are experts at playing these games which is why their numbers are nonsense for all but the few who seek to replicate the test as closely as possible. Now I'm all for one test if its a fair one but that would involve loading the car to a reasonable extent as it would be in real use. Sitting it on a dyno and making the wheels spin a bit is hardly the same as normal use for normal users.
@siraff4461
@siraff4461 2 жыл бұрын
@@narenn9500 I think the idea is the quoted numbers are achieveable for anyone. Its the same with their performance numbers. If Alex had done a launch it would probably have been pretty close to its claimed time even on a wet road. Looking at other tests it makes about 0.4s difference over a 1/4 mile.

@NO3V
@NO3V 2 жыл бұрын
Funny. You are saying this like there was much new on that Taycan. The GTS (ST) is literally a slightly detuned Turbo (CT) with the "SportDesign Paket lackiert in Schwarz (hochglanz)" (4.986,10 €) included as well as a few of the other options you can get on basically any Taycan. The Race Tex seats are apart from a different cloth on the center lane identical to what you can get on a base taycan as the free non-leather option and then adding the "Adaptive Sportsitze Plus vorne (18-Wege, elektrisch) mit Memory-Paket" (2.034,90 €) plus the headrest stitching. Porsche is just very good at having influencers do the marketing for their new option packages as "new models".
@NO3V
@NO3V 2 жыл бұрын
The S also got roughly a dozen major refreshes/model changes and probably thousands of little changes not even including software updates. The Plaid (and LR, so technically code name Palladium) is underneath the skin (and even that is quite a bit wider) drastically different, even from the directly previous revision (Raven) - fully redesigned battery pack, power electronics (closer to Model 3/Y), obviously the carbon overwrapped motors, different suspension (airtank for the shocks doubles as front strut brace), different HVAC and motor/battery cooling, the obviously, completely different interior (and they even moved the panel further forward for more passenger space), etc. etc. It's a new car that looks similar to the old one to the uninitiated. You, know, similar (even more extreme) to what Rolls-Royce, Range-Rover or Porsche tend to do.

It’s not any other cars competitor but Porsche Panamera. So why are you talking about Lucid? Get a grip!

Careful driving Porsches Alex - they ruin all other cars for you. If you care about the driving experience, that's where all the extra money goes into.

Its really nothing new for Porsche from the design perspective. It looks like a refreshed Panamera, a design I never liked.

Tesla Model S really is just one trick pony, the only advantage I heard from people is just acceleration, basically everything else sucks, handling and brakes are bad, not to mention the notorious build quality.

A roomy family sedan. Very quick. Quiet. Low to no maintenance. Cheap to run. Super safe in a crash. You mean atleast a "five trick pony"?

I don't think you're crazy for liking this car, Alex. It is your opinion and if you bought one your money. My opinion is I like it right up to where the back doors straight. All downhill for me after that. It's like a beautiful Porshe with a big, stinky, sh*tty diaper behind it. Don't get the wagon thing, especially for a 130 Gs. No. So many other more beautiful cars I could think of for that money.

Is this still the least efficient EV in the world? And how about all the Taycans that have a real risk of catching fire? LOL! Anyone wasting money on this piece of crap really has a lot more money than common sense!
@akacicaa

Its only as efficent as the way you drive it. Huh, i heard somewhere that gasoline can also catch fire...maybe you can help me answer that?

An EV version of any vehicle is NEVER the best option. Law enforcement, emergency responders and the military do not depend on battery powered vehicles. If you take your vehicle seriously and use it as a necessity and not as a toy, then it should not have batteries as the primary source of power.

@@LWRC depends what your power source is. If it’s coal, driving an EV creates more toxic emissions than a hybrid. If natural gas, nuclear, or renewable, an EV is better for the environment than a hybrid. And coal is quickly being replaced by these cleaner forms of energy.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 жыл бұрын
@@garrettw99 LOL....of course. But the incremental gains are miniscule and these cars are hardly driven efficiently so to say EVs are greener is completely nonsense and it is unbelievabke so many have been sucked down this black hole. Very very few of these cars are charged by renewable sources!!!
@Ficon
@Ficon 2 жыл бұрын
@@LWRC You are ignoring the fact that EVs are much more efficient than ICE vehicles. So even if charging is coming from coal (about 50% nationally in US and rapidly decreasing), your energy consumption is still about 1/5th of that of a comparable ICE car (in fact, even coal power plants are more efficient than ICE cars, around 40-45% vs. 30-35% for a modern ICE car and 80%+ for EV). While ICE cars have reached peaked efficiency, EVs will continue to get cleaner as coal powerplants are eliminated and sourcing of raw materials becomes more sustainable. Military, police and fire are very specific use cases. Since fire and police vehicles spend much of their time idling, electric powertrains actually make a ton of sense once the infrastructure is in place. Electric tanks with engines used only as generators (diesel-electric locomotive setup, basically) have been around since WW2.
