So, I took my G37S with a 6-speed in yesterday for minor service but turns out they didn't have the part, so they gave me a QX50 loaner. Now... I'm not saying I'd buy one and totally not speaking on the reliability, but for the typical buyer of these things... the CVT is totally fine! I put it in Sport mode and put the transmission in Manual mode and it was not terrible and didn't feel majorly different than other cars I've driven with a conventional auto and pedals. And damn, the thing is quick, and that VC-turbo is torquey! I'd still vote for them to replace the CVT for a conventional auto simply for reputation... but to be honest after driving the thing, from a drivability standpoint for the typical buyer... it's not as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be. If anything stood out as weird for being in a premium car is the 4-cyl engine note... I just feel there should be no less than a V6 in any luxury/premium vehicle. But times are changing... and I can't contest the torque it has over my G37. And I threw it around a corner or two and it took them like a champ. The Active Trace Control almost made it feel like it wanted to oversteer. As far as the interior, it's very nice! Save the section around the drivers' knees, EVERYTHING is cut and sewn and good quality materials. Everything feels solid. And this is a base model I'm in... the top of the line Autograph interior is BEAUTIFUL. The screens are very sharp and responsive. Yes, the top screen is matte compared to the lower screen, but it makes sense from a glare standpoint. People make big deals about these screens when the fact is... once it's set, there not much interaction with them. I had Carplay on the top screen and climate on the lower screen. Perfect. Again, I'd still vote for them to update the UI design and switch to a widescreen format just from an aesthetic POV. But the updates they made are a pretty good improvement over the earlier Q50s I had for loaner cars. I say the QX50 is a conventional auto, a redesigned center stack/console (hated that I didn't really have somewhere to put my phone), and a digital gauge cluster away from being a top contender in this class... all things I thought the QX55 would introduce. But I guess we'll have to wait for a mid-cycle refresh. I'm not giving Infiniti a pass on lagging behind and some hasty decisions and their lineup is in desperate need of a makeover, but after actually driving the QX50, their most recent product, I think the general panning of the brand is pretty excessive. I look forward to their new product, especially seeing the strides that are being made on the Nissan side.

We like the new 2022 QX55. We have a 2016 QX50 and we still love it, most reliable car we have every owned. We also drove the 2022 Acura RDX and agree with you on most of your opinions. However the 10 speed has noticeable delays when downshifting, which was disappointing. The QX55 has one of the best CVT transmissions we have seen. We had one in our older Murano and we again loved it. The new CVT is very responsive, including downshifting and the simulated upshifting is very nice. It is not just sound, you can see the tach adjust for each of the gears presented. The mid-price Acura RDX is around $46K and includes factory NAV; the mid-price QX55 is around $47K and does not include factory NAV. Both require upgrades to the next model to get the heated steering wheel, between $5K-$6K additional. In the QX55 you then also get factory NAV, leather and more. We very much like your reviews, keep up the good work. BTW, can you find out if the QX55 is in actual current production? There was a 5 month delay late last year.

Automakers didn't stop MAKING sedans; people stopped BUYING them as much as crossovers. Ford stopped making them. However if your statement were true you wouldn't be able to still buy all the Camrys, Accords, 3-series, Avalons, Civics, and so on as you want. @mlosuno4023 жыл бұрын
@@mrsj1417 Look at the Chevy Cobalt for an example of what I’m saying. Who was going to buy that for any reason other than it being all they could afford? Look at the Toyota Echo. The Fiesta sedan was ugly AF. I’m not saying this started recently. Automakers have been purposely driving people from sedans to crossovers and SUVs. And when I say automakers killed sedans I’m not saying that there aren’t any sedans left. Kia and Hyundai especially are killing it with theirs. The Camry and Accord will probably never go anywhere. Luxury brands haven’t abandoned them because the higher price tags help justify them. I’m saying automakers (not all of them) have not put the same effort into keeping sedans as up to date as they have with SUVs and crossovers. At least some of the sedans that died were allowed to languish into obscurity. Also, pointing out that the CRV and RAV4 aren’t that big also kind of further proves my point. Look at Ford. They’re moving to a crossover/SUV/truck only lineup apart from the Mustang. The Fiesta had a base MSRP of about $15-16k. The even uglier Ecosport now sits at the bottom of their lineup and starts just shy of $20k for not all that much more space. With minimal effort Ford just made sure that anyone wanting one of their vehicles will have to spend several thousand more dollars meaning greater profits for them.
@2004cyrus3 жыл бұрын
Your statement feels a little contradictory. You say sedans are dead and then say automakers killed them. So are they dead or killed or not? I say they sales are a small part of the product mix but Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Hyundai, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Volvo and others produce sedans and some are doubling down on them. I don't want the handling ruined, and I don't want the driving position to feel like I'm sitting in a dining room chair. Audi fills the gaps created by run-flat tires and the CVT with their Q5 sport back. It's a shame too because this car is a looker and it could be a solid Japanese competitor if not for those features.
@nathanchambers9852 жыл бұрын
All the whiners about CVT's have most likely never driven a car with a CVT. They have assigned opinions based on what others have said. Majority of owners with CVT's love them. Car Reviewers are the reason manufacturers started putting fake shifts,which hurt the performance of the transmission,in CVT's. Customers weren't complaining about a lack of shifts.

I think lots of guys here have the wrong idea. Infiniti QX50 does not appeal to car enthusiast men. It is now targeting the niche market of soccer mom. My wife bought a red QX50 and another friend's wife also got one last year. The interior design might look a bit dated but if you look up close you find second to none materials quality in this price range. Of course only in higher trims levels like sensory or above. I find 9 out of 10 QX50 drivers woman in their 30-40s. Guess most don't care transmission nor horsepower.

The Europeans don't have the best reliability records, but I'd definitely take the straightforward little Q3 over this. The RDX, sure - though it doesn't excite me much it has no major weaknesses beyond the infotainment, which I don't care about that much. Give me enough steering wheel controls to navigate through music and I'm happy. It's the Genesis GV70 I'd be most tempted by, as it's pretty, a good value, and has no obvious weaknesses.

Very good looking vehicle, however, that interior really pulls it down like a bag of concrete. If Infiniti ditched the CVT and updated their interior, I guarantee this car, and the entire range in general, would sell twice or thrice as many vehicles. I think it's misguided to compare the QX55 to a stablemate sedan. QX55 is front wheel based drivetrain, Q50 is rear wheel drive based; Maybe the QX55 is style-forward, but arguing that it's a replacement for a sedan is just off. Manufacturers keep trying to divide their SUV pie as much as possible, and thats fine... Infiniti might just be killing off their own sedan by giving the mass public the QX55, but hopefully the enthusiast buyer will still see value in the Q50.

I wish all of these auto experts would stop picking on the Acura touchpad infotainment pad……….I for one think it is miles better than a touch screen interface. Many of them are too far from the driver for easy comfortable operation a la the Genesis GV80. As with any new vehicle there is a learning curve with the functions. Once you get use to the Acura Touchpad it becomes like muscle memory and is far safer and faster to use than the touch screen set up.

Three years into the variable compression engine, it has proven to be a pointless complication. It’s both slower and less economical than X3 and Q5 with conventional engines and gearboxes. Given Nissan’s history of CVT failures and the fact that CVT is inherently ill-suited for turbo torque, QX50/55 is going to be a money pit out of warranty.
