As an avid Infiniti owner & eternal fan of the FX45/-50S, I say they’re finally at least heading back in the right direction. I hate - like the Acura ZDX - that the FX/QX70 model was discontinued in a market now heavily starved for sporty coupe-like SUVs. Hopefully they’ll bring something else beefier to compete with Genesis and the like in that upper segment in the future. 🤞🏾 - Great review as always, Nathan! 🔥

To be honest, despite of other comments about CVT, the CVT is actually pretty good on our qx50. It’ very responsive and quick compared to traditional V6.

Very fishy like styling, like a silver trout. With salmon egg interior. The engine drones like a boat propeller in the water. I had an FX45 and it was no Joke fun to drive with that sweet V6 exhaust note!

For $58 thousand I can get an Acura RDX or an MDX which would be better choices right now . If Infinity changed out the infotainment system and the CVT transmission this vehicle could be great and another thing I’m not a fan of is the black molding , make it all the same color as the vehicle .

Its beautiful and is the best version of the egg like coupe SUV's out there, but I just can't get past that engine note. That sounds like my John Deere when I take it out for the first time in the Spring and the throttle is sticking.

I've been leasing & buying multiple Infinities since 2010, mostly, G30, G37 coupe, Q50, Qx50 and FX. Only reason I'm not getting this Q55, issue to the rear blind viewing. The need to add a side camera view when turn signal is on.

I like the dual screens. The German and Lexus screens are an eyesore, one big iPad wannabe that is like a cancerous tumor growing out of the dash. No a holistic design. Two screens are better than one. And much easier to use.

For NORMAL people watching this and have no idea what CVT is and for you to call it the weakest point of the vehicle is a shame. First they would not even notice it was a CVT and now they are all concerned about this bad CVT thing because he said it on the video and now they won't buy it. Infiniti needs all the help they can get right now. MOST people buying this car will not care about the CVT, they are not car enthusiasts and probably are going to be women. People need to lay off the "CVT is horrible and thus the car is crap idea" because most people will not notice or care about it. Does a 60 year old woman care about it? Probably not. They care how it looks and feels inside and how it drives.

Miss the FX line even the EX. FX37 and FX50 were the best and may look at one of those eventually if I want a small type SUV. RWD based and non-CVT are preferred.

I monitored and waited the intro of the car a long time. And I'm a long time Nissan customer. But they kinda let me down with it. At it's price point, real hard to justify buying, with it having sub 300 hp. And it doesn't bring that masculine persona of the FX/Q70 like Infiniti built it up to have. I wanted to do the QX50 for the Mrs and this for me, but the Audi Q5 and the SQ5 Sportback is looking like a cooler option, with more hp and not too different a price. But thanks for the review!

Not true at all. For the current gen cvt they were able to reduce friction by 30% over the previous iteration, and they gave it a stronger, thicker belt. Most of the cvt issues you hear about are dealing with 2009-2017 model year vehicles which had the 1st and 2nd gen cvts, but since 2018 the lawsuits have dried up thanks to the improved reliability and durability of the 3rd gen cvts. all new technologies go through their teething problems, but nothing stays broken forever. There was a time when automatic transmissions and turbochargers were considered unreliable, and now hardly anyone even thinks twice about buying a vehicle with an automatic tranny and/or a turbo. CVTs are now starting to come out of the woods.

The infotainment center and gauge cluster are so “long in the tooth.” And I don’t know why they gave it the troublesome Jatco CVT transmission when most of the 2022 Nissan models now have a 9 speed transmission. It is powered by an innovative turbocharged four-cylinder engine that uses variable compression-called VC-Turbo, or VC-T for short. Read this analysis to better understand how it works. The engine makes 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that directs power to either the front or all four wheels. The engine seamlessly swaps between high compression during steady cruising and low compression during hard acceleration. While it never exhilarates when the pedal hits the metal, only those seeking a seriously quick crossover will be disappointed. Unfortunately, the engine is loud under heavy throttle, and the CVT makes this worse, especially around town.

INFINITI didn't listen. We wanted a geared transmission that was AWD with rear wheel bias (rear wheel drive until it detects slippage, then it's AWD like on the 2017 QX50). They need to bring back the sportiness and drop the stupid line up names because they don't mean anything (Luxe, Essential, Sensory). Just go with QX55 L, LE, LES or something simple.

The quick answer is “no.” Infiniti used to make good cars. Since they dumped six cylinder in most of their cars they had one of the best engines around. Take on the awful CVT and the even more awful drive-by-wire steering and you have a car that would be the last on my list of luxury compact SUV’s. Shame as I leased almost exclusively Infinitis for over 20 years. They made me offers I could not refuse on a lease and the dealer experience was always good.
