Once again...perfect review Alex!!! My oldest daughter bought her first car (a 2016 Civic EX-L w/Honda Sensing). She (w/Dad's help) sold the Firestones immediately and put on Michelin Premier A/S and it made a HUGE difference for the better, too! I'm seriously impressed w/the Civic...but still thankful for my '15 Accord Hybrid Touring. ;-) However, if I was younger the Civic would be hard to beat (and soooo much bigger than the used '15 Civic EX-L that is our other "kid car" that my younger daughter will probably buy (someday) with the "good dad discount". ;-) Thanks again for all your hard work and details...I LOVE IT!

Forget about ILX. Look at people buying luxury vehicles without any luxury features for $5k+ more. Image getting into someone's 3 series and not seeing, push to start button, back up camera, heated seats, sunroof, adaptive cruise, water sensing wipers, gps, led head lights etc and that car is $10k more than civic. Must be a huge bummer to "luxury" car owners. Alex, I think it's an interesting topic on how features are being packed into different type of vehicles. Would be nice to hear your opinion on that.

I have one of these. I love it. They did not include home-link but other than that there is very little this car does not have. You can get the 42 MPG HWY if you keep it under 75. The one real problem I have had has been the adaptive cruise control. It will give you a false positive that there is a vehicle in front of you. It happens more often at night and at high speed. Lets say you are going down the highway at 75 MPH in the left lane on a 2 lane highway and there is a truck in the right lane. The car will slow down thinking that you are going to run into the truck that is to your right. It is very annoying. That has been my biggest issue to date.

Another great review, Alex. I'm glad you mentioned the turbo using more gas than the naturally aspirated. I've owned two turbos, and agree they burn more whenever you put your foot in it. They're OK with a light foot, but that defeats the purpose of buying a turbo-charged engine. Personally, I'd rather get a car with a V6 for the power or one with a I-4 for the economy.
@Crosshead18 жыл бұрын
The new Civic is about to be released here in Australia. Ours will be made in Thailand with some variations from the North American model range. The top of the range VTi-LX is the equivalent of your Touring model and comes similarly fully loaded but also picks up paddle shifters for the CVT and LED fog lights. For now, there won't be any manual transmissions available, even on the non-turbo model. In fact, the base model only gets the 1.8 litre naturally aspirated engine carried over from the 9th gen. Not sure why we don't get the new 2 litre.

Regarding your Civic vs. Mazda3 comparison, I'd like to add that you can get a 6-speed manual on the mazda3 but not in the civic (unless you settle for the base LX trim). Without the silly I-ELoop regenerative braking system, the top end Mazda3 costs roughly the same as the top end Civic Touring. I absolutely love the new civic, but I still picked the Mazda3 over the civic because of the availability of MT.

SUGGESTION: please augment the Trunk Comfort Index with the Sleep Comfort Index by folding the rear seat & laying down in the back with pillow. (I often sleep in my car instead of wasting $90 on a motel.) The hybrid sedans like Civic, Fusion would instantly score a zero because they don't have folddown seats, though hatchbacks like Prius, Insight, Focus would do well .

Been driving the new 2017 civic touring for a full day now. The Honda sense is nice, but totally unnecessary. In the end, I disabled all mine. Don’t need it. I’m disappointed it doesn’t come with sport shift, while the corolla comes standard in their sport model. Performance is ok, it I’m coming from a turbo charged Kia Optima. The touring model looks so much better than their lower model versions. I swear they look like a cross between an Acura and a Mercedes for the touring model. The wheels make a big difference and the bold lines with the led headlamps add the aggressive look that makes people turn heads. I’ve gotten several comments from random people already on my touring model. Yes, they’re attention grabbers. I live in SoCal so people here take notice. Went to target and as soon as I got out, a couple commented how smoking nice it looks. Can’t wait to get the windows tinted. It’ll look even better than it already is. Wow!! Got home and neighbors took notice. Came over and checked it out. All say it’s a sweet looking car. One of their teenage sons want one for a graduation gift hahahahahahaha. I’m still playing with it and there are quite a few settings to play with. The civic sits low so that’s something I need to get use to. The remote start was totally unnecessary, but came with the car. I’ll never use it. A lot of features. Most, a little too much. I mainly got the touring model for the looks. That’s it.

I just bought a Civic Touring this past Monday, too! It's a sharp looking car, that's for sure. Every time I look at it I go "Dang, that's a nice looking car." I was considering an EX-L but the dealer couldn't find one with the sensing package (I want the adaptive cruise control since I have a commute for my new job) but they ended up giving me an amazing deal on the Touring. The trim really does make the car so much nicer than an EX trim.

One of the most informative reviews out there. Plenty of detail, and I like the comparisons to competing models. Regarding comparing the ILX and Accord to the Gen X Civic, they are close competitors, but since it is very likely the next generation of both these cars will be based upon the new Civic platform, I'd be hesisitant to purchase one of those cars now. Imagine the Gen X Civic rebadged as an ILX, with a 2 liter turbo, an 8-speed DCT, and the other Acura bells-and-whistles. Buyers who prefer Acura luxury are probably going to want to wait a few more years. For me, however, I'll hold out for the release of the Civic Si. Keep up the good reviews.

Alex, great video! I'm torn after listening to your summary at the end. Over 24 years ago, my ex-wife and I walked onto a Honda lot to buy a Civic EX. My ex-wife had an old Prelude and wanted to trade it for a fully loaded Civic EX. We test drove the Civic and liked it. However, there was a similarly priced Accord LX on the lot right next to the Civic EX. After comparing the price and test driving the Accord, we ending up buying the Accord. I think it's weird how Honda prices their cars.
@k4everut8 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention that I really like the look and performance of the Civic EX. The reason I am torn is because I'm afraid that if I go to a dealership looking for the Civic EX, the adult in me may just settle for a similarly priced Accord again.

So I'm not the only one struggling between ILX and this Civic! However as excited as I heard the 0-60 is 6.6 seconds, I have to ask Alex why you seems to be able to clock cars a bit faster than basically everybody else? I still remember the semi-heated discussion when you reported you got ILX to hit 0-60 in 6.25 seconds.... Overall I really like this Civic in Touring model. But after checking the data, I am a little bit disappointed about the noise level tho. 72 Dba is really nothing to write home about. Well this is a wonderful review as always, thanks Alex!
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+tsun890 0-60 times are influenced by weather, road surface, etc. They should never be taken as gospel from any outlet. Instead use them to compare against other cars from the same outlet. So use MotorTrend's Civic and ILX numbers to make a decision, ro my Civic vs ILX numbers. Don't use my ILX number and MT's Civic number to compare because that's not a realistic comparison since the tests were not done under the same conditions with the same equipment.
@tsun8908 жыл бұрын
+Alex on Autos Point taken. Actually I'm quite surprised that ILX is faster than this new Civic! I kinda assume they will be on par... I've edited my post above... I'm not quite sure how I feel that both vehicle measured 71/72 Dba cabin noise. I feel like brake distance and cabin noise seem to be where Honda cut corners. Not saying they're bad... maybe just a bit lack of effort.
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+tsun890 The Civic is less powerful. The CVT helps but ultimately the ILX's more powerful engine wins.
@tsun8908 жыл бұрын
+Alex on Autos I guess I had too much faith on that CVT then haha. Also want to say that thanks for pointing out that Accord being an option in the same price range. Coming from Acura TL, I guess part of me just want to try something else. BTW, saw HondaPro Jason's comment below. Time to make some connections Alex?
@chrisbrownaz8 жыл бұрын
I would purchase a Civic EX-L with Honda Sensing. Saves $1,800 over the Touring and you have more trunk space due to the lack of specialty rear speakers that take up some trunk space in the Touring. You are short a navigation system, but I would just use my phone or a cheap portable navigation system.

I love this video especially the last two minutes. Its very true the accord is the best competitor to the civic. I am torn between these two, given my age I want a civic with the furturistic design inside and out.. but the accord is so much more car for the money, especially the driver seat is much more comfortable than that on the civic or hrv.. only down side accord being very conservative on the design overall.. Price seems to be very close between the Civic EXL and Accord EX with honda sensing on both.. Any suggestions ?
