Love everything about the XC40 recharge but those incandescent turn signals on a $50,000 luxury SUV in 2024 is just not acceptable in my opinion, it makes the rear end look old and cheap,

As someone who has had a led turn signal die on me, I would rather have incandescent because you can’t just change a bulb or circuit board, and you have to replace the entire light assembly at significant cost 😢

The thinking comes from Sweden the incandescent bulbs heat the lamp house keeping it clear of snow and ice.

Had a Model 3 Performance that got totaled in 2022 and got a high payout from the other person’s insurance. I got into a Volvo C40 Recharge and really enjoyed it. When Tesla lowered their prices in 2023, I traded the Volvo in for another Model 3 Performance. I love the Tesla but gotta say there any many aspects of the C40 Recharge that I really liked and kinda miss. Thank you for another awesome video

Nice that the cargo hooks in the trunk are recessed. Very smart design. Love the design of hte XC40 Recharge but the price is just too high. Really should start at $45K for RWD. The infotainment screen could be bigger too.

A point of correction, the XC40/C40 for the past two year models also included pixel headlamps tech, but Volvo turned it off due to U.S. regulations, which have now been updated. Unfortunately, Volvo is not providing updates to activate this feature that's already built in the car. However, you can get software to hack your car and turn on this feature. 😉 Related to updates, one thing that is missing from this review and other EV reviews is car software updates. Volvo is really the only legacy car manufacturer to embrace software updates like Tesla and Rivian. I've had my 2023 C40 for less than a year and have already received 4 updates that have helped improve the car.

Great, detailed video as usual. We love our 2021 XC40 Recharge. It has its drawbacks, it’s unfortunate that Volvo has not rethought the regenerative braking. Because the car puts such a high priority on regenerative braking (even when 1 pedal is off) that it can lead to rusty brake discs. I have to make a point of occasionally going down a nearby hill in neutral so that the car is forced to use the friction brakes.

Bought one used. $12k under KBB. Plenty of room. We love it. It may be shorter than the Y and have less mileage but Teslas drive like bricks and finish just isn't that great. Don't need a giant screen in the middle, it's just a distraction.

As I C40 owner, I love the one pedal driving, but I love even more the option since my wife prefers traditional. Volvo lets you set that preference to your profile which is fantastic.

More retardation effort is available at the front , and more aggressive braking can be utilized at the front, because of dynamic weight transfer when decelerating. If equal “aggressive” breaking effort is applied to the rear wheels they will lock up. Mid or rear engine cars mitigate dynamic weight transfer so the rear brakes are better utilized. Car and driver published a “shortest stopping distance” article 9/20/21, and eight out of the top 10 were mid or rear engine.

Space. The trunk would need to have the floor 6" higher to put a tire in there.

Cost-Benefit analysis. Cost=heavier, lower efficiency, less space. Benefit=the once in a few years or never time where you might get a flat.. and even then you can just call towing service.

Possibly could get a Fisker Ocean... they MSRP is around 70K ... but since bankruptcy you can get one really cheap but there may not be any maintenance or parts for it so drive it for 80K miles hopefully not breaking or bricking for 30K dollars.... LOL

The issue would be support. Changing the 12 battery (which has phantom drain issues) can brick some features in the car and that’s a bummer at any price

There is a story from Finland a couple traded in their two year old Volvo XC40 EV for a 2006 Audi A6 TDI because the depreciation was so bad they couldn’t live with it financially and decided to get rid of it before it was useless.
