As a way to promote physically distant flying, Air Canada decided to open up their VIP Air Canada Jetz A319s to the general public, flying them exclusively on some Rapidair flights between Toronto and Ottawa, and Toronto and Montreal.
These all-business class A319s normally fly Canadian NHL teams during hockey season, and to actually be able to fly on one is a very special opportunity.

They’ll fly completely empty if they have to. And they do. During COVID this was common, because even though obviously a big loss for the airline, they have to keep travelling to and from large airports to secure their takeoff and landing rights. Lufthansa flew 21000 flights during COVID completely empty for this purpose.

Nothing gives me wanderlust like a view over Montreal. As an east-coaster nearly every trip i take starts with flying over MTL. As soon as you started your descent I was thinking about all the places i want to go once it's safe again, haha. Great video!

What a thrill to fly on an Air Canada Executive Jet. The Airbus A319-100 was the beginning in a long line of Airbus jets. Loved the executive configuration and all of the amenities not available on normal flights. It felt a little strange with only 3 passengers but not unexpected with the Covid-19 Virus. That is actually Jazz's own Dash 8, not owned by Air Canada. That's why it's in the "old" livery.

It was a dedicated charter plane, that could be used for CPA operations if required. That however changed when a fuel truck decided to play bumper cars and permanently grounded one of the other 300s. Decision was made to move the charter plane to cover the gap in the CPA fleet. It's going to get repainted eventually

I think it has something to do with their contracts with the airports. I know in Europe Lufthansa flew 21000 flights empty during COVID. All though obviously a loss for the airline (this flight included), they have to keep actively travelling to and from the airports to secure landing and takeoff rights/priority.

I flew on one of these A319's once in the early 2000's. Our plane to Boston from Toronto broke down and they pulled one of these out of a hanger. I sat up front so I missed that they had a row with tables.

This video starts with some nice vews of the fild of the deparcher airport during take off a long with some nice views of the ground below the aircraft during the bigining of the flight. The vew out the right side window during the approch forvlanding was also quite nice a long with the vew during landing & taxying down the runway after landing.

Very cool and unique report and experience! Surprised they'd actually operate the flight with just 3-4 PAX. Although the interior is plush and super-comfy it does look a little worn and dated, surprised AC doesn't update these and keep them absolutely perfect for the VIP client base.

👍👍👍 BTW, personally, if given the option of rear facing seats I always take them. At least for takeoff & landing, safer position than sitting forward. My niece is in YYC and is one of the many crew members laid-off. If our “cousins” down south could get their act together, I think we could get thru this a bit faster. Yo Alex, I saw the line for security there. Now it might be different because of the pandemic but there’s actually a secondary security checkpoint for the D gates. It’s located underneath the main security. To get to it stay on the mid-level between arrivals and departures and walk all the way to the end of the terminal near door A. There’s a long hallway from there where the checkpoint is located. Nobody ever uses that checkpoint so it makes it really fast to get through next time you’re in Toronto.

Fun fact about that 4 seat with table: U2 did a segment for 60 minutes back in 06 sitting right at that table talking to Ed Harris. Now I don’t know if the plane’s the same registration but I wouldn’t be surprised. You can find it if you do a little digging

I find it interesting the load capacity in CAN vs the USA. I flew in late may and my flight was packed (middle seats empty) I then flew on a United flight that was full without the middle seats blocked.

Meanwhile, as an aside, one recommends that all air carriers temporarily install plexiglass between each seat and require all passengers to wear face masks throughout the flight. Realistically, it appears the COVID pandemic will take a long while to contain mvbo31, RN, MSN/MPH.

I've known about some of the interesting things some airlines did during the pandemic, like Singapore Airlines 'restaurant' in-flight meals on a plane that didn't actually fly off, Thai Airways restaurant at their HQ, and Emirates round-trip flights around the UAE and back to Dubai (I think), but didn't think that an airline would offer domestic flights onboard their normally private planes booked by high-profile individuals and companies. No in-flight entertainment system would be understandable as I imagine the people who fly those private flights would normally have their work laptop and/or other devices out instead. (3:20) (6:18) However, those seats with the fold-up tables seem interesting to me. I imagine the intention was for business meetings, but as you and other people in the comment section mentioned, they were also used for stuff like tabletop games and video interviews. I do also imagine a film crew using the table seats for laptop-based video editing (on the scale of a large media company producing KZbin video content), TV/film writers when they're sharing ideas and working on screenplays, or artists/illustrators working on their art.

That’s pretty cool! I just took a flight on the same route on a normal a320, economy. I counted 11 passengers. I was so positively surprised they handed out that cleancare package to everyone. I never received a package on an Air Canada flight even on a long haul to Asia.

Is it compulsory to wear gloves? I think they are worse than not using them because of the cross contamination risks attached to them. Would you like a nurse to feed you wearing the same gloves that she’d aided someone use the bathroom? For gloves to be effective you need to change them after each activity and then still wash your hands.
