Man, that initial melody line was nothing until the bass line came in. Thanks for deconstructing, dude!
@igelkotte5 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. But I disagree. The first 8 bars with the simple 2 note melody at 1:58 is everything. You can make any kind of hit song with only that midi. That's why music is so fascinating to me. The fact that such a "simple" melody can be so unique.
@MycketTuff6 ай бұрын
Deadmau5 is the king of tasty analog sounds and just enough melody. I've been around jazz musicians most of my life and they know how to do this but could learn to stop throwing out so much of it all at once. What separates him from other musicians is timing, self-restriction and space.
@ObesityStupidity5 ай бұрын
You are so right. I listen to many genres of music. But when I listen to EDM, I often hate lack of good melody and get sick of repetitiveness. But Deadmau5 manages to make simple melodies and harmonies sound fresh each time they repeat. He does it by those simple adjustments of filter cutoffs, release time, panning etc. With the right amount of layers, instrument changes and FX. And all of these together make the story. Every single change is meaningful and evoke emotion. Deadmau5 became the embodiment of the word Progressive to me.

@timdoring85716 ай бұрын
His understanding of sound design is impressive to me too, but his melodies and harmonies are really basic. Doesn't make them bad, oftentimes simplicity leads to catchiness, but as someone with a background in composition its really not 'genius' or 'unlike any other'

@@timdoring8571 I don't know How much You are familiar with Deadmau but for me He's the most Inspirational Artist in an EDM industry. I do watch his Live stream of 8-9 hours. He's a Fucking Robot. he has made his own style getting inspired by several artists like Nine Inch nails boards of Canada aphex twin. If You had followed his music you'll suprise to know How versatile his music is.
@MnKilla6 ай бұрын
@@timdoring8571 its simple because it needs to be for the masses, im not gonna make a crazy ass super melodic beat and release expecting it to go off and land on the radio or billboards because its too complex for the regular ear. so ill make something impressive yet simple and catchy for the masses. i bet he can do more on his own that others wont hear other than him and im sure he has thousands of tracks on the drive just laying for himself only. so, in the end he is crazy talented and a genius at making hit tracks that will last a lifetime. you want to listen to complex and crazy shit then go listen to classical music or jazz

You said something about Deadmau5 using a lot of layers, but I dont think that is accurate. In his imaginary friends stream, it looks as if every element is only there once. One pluck, one bass, one riser, etc. I think that whole track has only 30 sounds max or smth. Dylan tallchief has a good explainer on this. The trick to deadmau5 is to automate a lot.

Love it, how you feel the soul of the music. Not many ppl I know, are capable of it. Deadmau5 is without doubt a talented composer. I love his mesmerizing tracks as well as those more dancey. I know it's a style change, but could you take a look at some Synthwave tracks and share your opinions? There's a lot of talented composers there. I'd start with Malo - La Dune, that's a feeling euphoria there. Then there's Turbo Knight (e.g. Bonzai, Space Cowboy, Prophecy...), LukHash, WaveShaper... I found the style when my kids were small and loud, and I had to return to nostalgia to feel like the life is easy again :D
